There is no verified evidence that UK shoppers are snapping up damaged PS5 consoles for £480. A report published by GameGPU on 11 October 2026 describes one buyer who paid that amount for a PS5 with a heavily dented box; the story says the console itself was in perfect condition. It names neither the retailer nor the customer and gives no sales figures, so its claim of a wider retailer sales surge remains unsubstantiated.
What the £480 story actually says
GameGPU’s 11 October 2026 article says major UK retailers are seeing increased PS5 sales and recounts a customer buying the last console at an unnamed British retail-chain branch for £480. The reported damage was to the packaging during transport, not to the console hardware. The story does not identify the shop or customer, show a receipt, provide sales data, or cite independent confirmation. GameGPU’s report is therefore evidence of an anecdote, not proof of a nationwide trend in damaged-console purchases.

What other sales figures do—and do not—show
GTA6 Life reported Nielsen IQ figures saying UK PS5 sales rose 33% in the week of the 27 August 2026 GTA VI Extended Look. It also reported a 34% rise in Xbox Series X|S sales during that same week. GTA6 Life said unit volumes were not published. These are secondary reports of overall weekly console sales, not figures for damaged or dented-box PS5s, and do not confirm GameGPU’s £480 anecdote. GTA6 Life’s account does not publish a direct Nielsen IQ report in the material cited here.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
PlayStation says the game uses DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Those are supported features, not a reason every player needs to buy an extra controller.
How the official refurbished listing compares
PlayStation’s UK shop listed a certified refurbished PS5 Slim at £479.99 when checked. That is a separate, official refurbished product listing—not the console in GameGPU’s anecdote and not evidence that a damaged unit sold for £480. Check the PlayStation Direct UK console listings for current stock and prices.

Rockstar Support says the physical retail version will contain a digital download code, not a disc, and is expected to be available from 12 November 2026 to support preloading. Code redemption is subject to platform-account region restrictions. Rockstar recommends buying and playing from a retailer in the country that matches the platform account to avoid potential activation problems; its listed PlayStation code region for UK buyers is the United Kingdom.
