Use the file locations and settings below as a controlled baseline, then change one variable at a time while monitoring server FPS and tick behavior.

First, make sure these settings are for Evolved
ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE) and ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) are separate products with separate server software. A setting published for ASA should not be assumed to work on Evolved. Several 2026 performance pages use “ARK ASA” in their titles; treat those instructions as out of scope unless the author explicitly confirms Evolved support.

It does not change a player’s local graphics settings or guarantee a higher client-side frame rate. “Server FPS” is the simulation process’s ability to complete ticks on time; a player can still have poor local FPS because of GPU, resolution or client configuration.
What actually limits an Evolved server
Work through bottlenecks in this order. The first four are generally more consequential than niche engine variables.

1. Physical RAM headroom
Minestrator’s 2026 Evolved setup guide describes the game as lighter than Ascended but identifies RAM as the usual server bottleneck. If you must choose between adding memory and buying a faster processor, its guidance is to prioritize more RAM. Memory must cover the operating system, the base server, the loaded map and every mod without forcing the system to page to disk.
Valebyte gives a vendor starting point of at least 32 GB RAM for a 30–50-player server with mods. That is a hosting recommendation, not an official Studio Wildcard requirement, an independent benchmark or a guarantee for every map and mod list.
2. Storage latency
Keep the server files and the save directory on fast NVMe storage when possible. Faster storage helps initial loading, save writes and recovery after a restart; it cannot compensate for a machine that is already out of memory.
3. World age and save complexity
As a world accumulates tamed dinos, structures, inventories and item timers, each tick has more state to process. Supercraft specifically recommends reducing wild-dino pressure and removing abandoned tames before reaching for obscure engine options. A Steam forum comment also reports that tamed dinos, structures, spoilage and decay timers can reduce tick rate substantially; that is an individual anecdote, not a controlled measurement.

4. Mod memory footprint
Valebyte warns that when total mod assets exceed available physical memory, the operating system begins using swap. Paging can make a server feel frozen even when CPU usage looks moderate. Audit large or overlapping mods and leave memory headroom for map changes and player growth.
5. Engine.ini and tick-rate tweaks
Community configuration files are the least verified layer. They can help a particular build, but values copied from a different patch, map or product can do nothing or create instability. Treat them as experiments, not universal optimization.
Hardware baseline for a 30–50-player modded server
Valebyte’s 2026 vendor guidance lists the following starting numbers:
| Component | Vendor starting point | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 4.5 GHz or higher | A vendor recommendation for 30–50 players with mods; not an official requirement or independent benchmark. |
| Memory | At least 32 GB RAM | Provides a planning floor for that same scenario, but actual use depends on map, mods and world age. |
| Storage | NVMe | Recommended for server files and saves to reduce storage latency. |
Clock speed alone does not describe a CPU’s complete performance. Check sustained single-thread performance, cooling and whether other services share the host. A nominally fast processor cannot prevent paging when the server runs out of memory.

Find the correct configuration files
Start the dedicated server once before editing. The first startup creates the standard configuration files. On Linux, Akliz documents the directory as ShooterGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/; on Windows, use the corresponding WindowsServer directory.
- Stop the server cleanly and make a copy of the entire
ShooterGame/Saveddirectory. - Open
GameUserSettings.iniin the platform-specific folder. - Put ordinary server options beneath the
[ServerSettings]section. - Use
Game.inifor deeper game-mode changes, such as per-level stat and breeding settings. xGamingServer identifies the[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]section for those changes. - Save the file, restart the server and inspect the log for parsing or startup errors.
Some hosting documentation recommends keeping server options in GameUserSettings.ini rather than duplicating them in launch arguments, because conflicting definitions can produce confusing results. If a control exists in both places, keep one authoritative copy and remove stale duplicates.
A safe baseline procedure
Use a repeatable sequence so you can identify whether a change helped.
- Record the map, player count, mod list, current save size, available RAM and observed server FPS during a busy period.
- Back up the save and both configuration files.
- Move the save and server installation to NVMe storage if they are on a slower disk.
- Reduce obvious world load: remove abandoned tames and unnecessary structures, and lower wild-dino pressure only if that fits your server’s gameplay rules.
- Check memory while the full mod set is loaded. If the operating system is swapping, add RAM or remove assets before editing engine variables.
- Change one configuration value, restart, and repeat the same observation period. Keep a short change log with the old value, new value, date and result.
Restarting matters: Game.ini and GameUserSettings.ini edits are not a live tuning interface. A restart also confirms that the server can load the edited files rather than silently retaining old values.

Using Engine.ini without breaking the server
A community GitHub project named SuperRicky14/Ark-Performance-Evolved publishes an Engine.ini containing log-suppression and network-related settings, including NetServerMaxTickRate=120. The available description does not establish that those values were tested on current Evolved builds, maps or mod combinations. Do not treat 120 as a proven target.
What the tick-rate value does—and does not prove
NetServerMaxTickRate is a ceiling for network server ticks, not a command that forces the simulation to achieve that rate. If the process cannot complete its work in time because of memory pressure, save complexity or CPU contention, raising the ceiling cannot create the missing capacity.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
An older Steam discussion, more than 1,000 days old in the search result, describes one user raising the value to 90 while still seeing server FPS near 40. That report is anecdotal and does not establish causation, but it illustrates why the setting must be measured on your own server.
Controlled test method
- Copy the original
Engine.inibefore making any edit. - Add or change only one line, preserving the existing section syntax and capitalization.
- Restart the server and let the same map and mod set load completely.
- Observe server FPS, tick behavior, memory use and log errors during comparable activity.
- Revert immediately if startup fails, warnings appear or gameplay becomes less stable.
Do not paste an ASA-specific Engine.ini into an Evolved installation. Even when a key has the same name, patch behavior and supported values can differ.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Save files, autosave and automatic mod updates
Autosave interval
Valebyte recommends using a shorter autosave interval, but the cited guidance does not specify a number. Choose an interval that limits progress loss without creating disruptive save spikes, then observe actual save duration on your hardware. Do not present an undocumented number as a universal best setting.
Save hygiene
Keep several dated backups outside the live save directory. A shorter interval protects against crashes but does not protect against corruption or an accidental overwrite. Test restoring a copy on a separate instance before relying on the backup process.

Automatic Workshop updates
Valebyte notes that the -automanagemods launch parameter makes the server check Steam Workshop for mod updates automatically. Automatic updates reduce manual maintenance, but an updated mod can change memory use or behavior. Back up the save before an update window and verify that every client can download the same mod versions.
Diagnose symptoms before changing values
| Symptom | Likely first check | Practical response |
|---|---|---|
| Server FPS declines as the world gets older | Tamed dinos, structures, spoilage and decay timers | Archive or remove abandoned assets and review wild-dino pressure before editing Engine.ini. |
| Performance collapses when mods load | Physical memory and swap activity | Reduce the mod asset footprint or add RAM; moving a swap file to faster storage is not a substitute for memory. |
| Long saves or restart loads | Save location and disk latency | Place the installation and save directory on NVMe and keep free disk space available. |
| A tick-rate change produces no visible improvement | CPU, memory or save complexity | Revert if unhelpful and address the underlying bottleneck; a ceiling does not guarantee achieved FPS. |
| Settings appear ignored | Wrong product, folder or configuration section | Confirm ASE, use LinuxServer or WindowsServer, check the section header and restart. |
| Server fails after an edit | Syntax or an unsupported community value | Restore the backup, start successfully, then reintroduce one tested change at a time. |
Operational checklist
- Confirm the server is ARK: Survival Evolved, not Ascended.
- Keep at least the vendor’s 32 GB planning baseline for a 30–50-player modded scenario, then measure your own workload.
- Use NVMe for server files and saves.
- Watch physical memory and swap while all mods are loaded.
- Control world growth by cleaning abandoned tames and structures.
- Back up
ShooterGame/Savedbefore editing. - Keep ordinary server options in
GameUserSettings.iniunder[ServerSettings]. - Reserve
Game.inifor deeper game-mode settings under[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]. - Restart after every configuration change.
- Treat
NetServerMaxTickRateand other community Engine.ini entries as unverified experiments. - Change one variable at a time and retain a rollback copy.
Bottom line for Evolved server tuning
Start with capacity and workload: enough RAM to avoid swap, NVMe storage, and a manageable save. Only after those are stable should you test Engine.ini or tick-rate changes. The community value of 120 and the older report of 90 with roughly 40 server FPS demonstrate that a higher ceiling is not the same as higher performance. A backed-up, measured, Evolved-specific configuration is safer than a large bundle of copied settings.
