To wake an unconscious creature or player you are targeting in ARK, aim at it and enter cheat SetMyTargetSleeping 0. The 0 wakes the target; changing it to 1 knocks that target out. To wake your own character, enter cheat ExecSetSleeping false. On a multiplayer server, authenticate first with enablecheats <adminpassword>; single-player does not require that authentication step.

Which ARK wake command should you use?
Choose the command by who needs to wake up:
- A creature or another player under your crosshair:
cheat SetMyTargetSleeping 0 - Your own player character:
cheat ExecSetSleeping false
SetMyTargetSleeping acts on the entity you are aiming at. Its final value is a switch: 0 wakes the targeted entity and 1 knocks it unconscious. ExecSetSleeping false acts on the player executing the command, so it does not depend on a crosshair target.

What the two commands actually affect
Waking a targeted dino or player
The target command checks the entity directly under your crosshair. Point at the unconscious dino or player before submitting it. If your crosshair is on the ground, a structure, a different creature, or nothing the game can target, the command may affect the wrong entity or appear to do nothing.

The command name can look counterintuitive because it contains “Sleeping.” It is a toggle-style administrative action rather than a command that only puts something to sleep. The last argument determines the result:
0means wake the current target.1means knock the current target out.
Waking your own character
ExecSetSleeping false is for the player character running the command. The word false tells the game not to leave that player asleep. Because it operates on the executing player, aiming at a dino is unnecessary for this version.

Requirements before you type anything
Use a session in which you have administrative permission
In single-player, the cited command reference says you do not need an enablecheats authentication step. On a multiplayer server, the server must recognize you as an administrator before administrative commands are accepted. Enter enablecheats <adminpassword>, replacing the angle-bracketed text with that server’s administrator password.
The password is controlled by the server owner or host. If you do not know it, a command cannot grant you access; ask the administrator to authenticate your account or run the command for you.
Make sure the console is available
Console commands only work after you open the game’s command console. Console access may have to be enabled in the relevant settings, and the opening control differs by version and input method.
Confirm who should be affected
For a dino or another player, stand where the entity is clearly visible and place the crosshair on its body. For yourself, use the self command instead of trying to target your own avatar from a third-person camera.

Opening the command console in ASE and ASA
ARK: Survival Ascended on keyboard and mouse
On the keyboard-and-mouse version of ARK: Survival Ascended, the console-opening key is ~ (tilde). Press it during gameplay, enter the command, and submit it using the console’s normal confirmation key.
ARK: Survival Evolved on keyboard and mouse
In ARK: Survival Evolved, press Tab to open the command console, then enter the command and submit it.
Controller and console layouts
Controller users do not necessarily have a physical tilde or Tab key. The official reference lists platform-specific pause-screen button combinations for opening the console. Use the combination for your platform and edition, then enter the same command text. If a shortcut does not open a console overlay, check that console access is enabled and that you are using the controls for the correct game version rather than copying a keyboard instruction.
Step-by-step: wake an unconscious dino or another player
- Stop beside the intended entity. Put the creature or player in clear view. Avoid aiming through a crowd, a wall, or a nearby structure.
- Place the crosshair on the target. The target command uses the entity under your crosshair, so verify that you are pointing at the unconscious dino or player rather than the floor or an adjacent creature.
- Authenticate if this is multiplayer. Enter
enablecheats <adminpassword>before the wake command if the server requires administrator authentication. Skip this step in single-player. - Open the console. Use
~in keyboard-and-mouse ASA,Tabin keyboard-and-mouse ASE, or your platform’s documented controller shortcut. - Enter the target wake command. Type
cheat SetMyTargetSleeping 0exactly, including the zero at the end, and submit it. On servers that require the alternative administrative prefix, useadmincheat SetMyTargetSleeping 0instead. - Close the console and inspect the target. The entity should no longer be unconscious. If it remains down, work through the troubleshooting checks below rather than repeatedly changing the command.
Do not replace the final 0 with the word false in this target command. The target command uses the numeric parameter documented for its sleep state.
Step-by-step: wake your own player character
- Open the console using the control for your edition and input method.
- Authenticate first when required. Multiplayer servers generally require
enablecheats <adminpassword>; the cited single-player instructions do not require it. - Enter the self command:
cheat ExecSetSleeping false. - Submit and return to the game. This command addresses the player executing it, so no crosshair target is needed.
The two commands deliberately use different argument styles. The target command’s documented switch is numeric, while the self command’s documented wake value is the Boolean word false.
Understanding prefixes on multiplayer servers
ARK command syntax can require an administrative prefix in front of the command name. The reference gives cheat examples and notes that multiplayer servers may require cheat or admincheat, depending on the server’s command handling. If the console accepts one prefix but rejects the other, use the form required by that server.

Authentication and the prefix are separate issues:
- Authentication:
enablecheats <adminpassword>establishes your administrator session when the server requires it. - Prefix:
cheatoradmincheatidentifies the following text as an administrative command in environments that enforce that syntax.
Entering a correct command with no administrative authentication, or authenticating but using a prefix the server does not accept, can produce the same practical result: nothing changes in the game.
Why SetMyTargetSleeping 0 may not work
The console never opened
If pressing a key does nothing, first identify your edition and input method. The keyboard control is ~ for ASA and Tab for ASE. Controller users must use the platform-specific pause-screen combination. Also verify that console access is enabled in the game’s settings. A command cannot run in ordinary gameplay chat or a text field that is not the admin console.

Single-player behavior does not automatically carry over to an online server. Run enablecheats <adminpassword> with the correct password, then submit the wake command. If you do not have the password, only the server’s administrator can provide the required access.
The crosshair is not on the unconscious entity
SetMyTargetSleeping is target-based. Move close enough to identify the intended dino or player, clear obstructions, and place the crosshair on that entity. Aiming at a corpse, dropped item, structure, or a different nearby creature does not select the unconscious target.
The argument is wrong
For waking, the target command ends in the number 0. The number 1 has the opposite effect and knocks the target out. The self command uses false, not 0, because it is a different command with a different documented parameter format.
The prefix does not match the server
Try the server’s accepted administrative form, either cheat or admincheat, after authentication. Keep the command name and final argument unchanged while testing the prefix; changing several parts at once makes it harder to identify the cause.

You used instructions for the other ARK edition
ASA and ASE have different keyboard console keys, even though the wake command itself follows the same documented target-versus-self distinction. Recheck whether you are playing ARK: Survival Ascended or ARK: Survival Evolved before troubleshooting the command text.
You expected a command to wake every unconscious entity
The target form is singular: it operates on the current crosshair target. It is not a broadcast instruction for every sleeping dino or player in an area. Repeat the procedure separately for each intended entity, selecting each one deliberately.

The edition difference matters most when you cannot open the console. Once the console is open and administrative access is established, select the command based on the target, not on whether the game is ASE or ASA.

When to use 0
Use 0 only when your goal is to wake the entity under the crosshair. Before submitting, check the target and make sure the command is permitted in the current session. An accidental target selection can wake the wrong creature or player.

When 1 is appropriate
The documented inverse is SetMyTargetSleeping 1, which knocks the selected target out. It is not a wake value. Treat it as a separate administrative action and verify the crosshair before using it.
Why the self command says false
The self command’s wording follows a Boolean state: false means the executing player should not remain asleep. Do not combine the target command’s numeric convention with the self command’s Boolean convention.

Practical examples
You accidentally knocked out a tamed dino
Stand where the dino is visible, target its body, open the console, and use the target wake command with the final value set to 0. Confirm that the dino you selected is the one that changes state before moving on.
Your character is unconscious after testing a command
Open the console without relying on a crosshair selection and run the self wake command with false. This avoids the common mistake of aiming at a nearby creature and applying a target command to the wrong entity.
An administrator is helping on a hosted server
The administrator should authenticate with the server password, then use the accepted cheat or admincheat prefix. If the administrator is waking another player, that player must be under the administrator’s crosshair; if the administrator is waking their own character, the self command is the appropriate form.
You are switching between keyboard and controller
Keep the command text unchanged and change only the console-opening method. Keyboard-and-mouse players use the edition-specific key; controller players use the documented pause-screen combination for their platform.
Command checklist
- Identify whether the target is a dino/other player or yourself.
- For a target, place the crosshair directly on the intended entity.
- Confirm whether the session is single-player or multiplayer.
- Authenticate with
enablecheats <adminpassword>on multiplayer when required. - Open the correct console for ASA, ASE, or your controller layout.
- Use
0to wake a target; reserve1for the documented knock-out action. - Use
falsewith the self-player command. - If nothing happens, check console access, authentication, target selection, prefix, and edition in that order.
Limits and expectations
These commands change the sleep state through administrative controls. They do not replace ordinary gameplay systems, provide a universal area effect, or remove the need to select a target when using the target form. Server permissions, console availability, and edition-specific controls determine whether you can execute them at all.
The most reliable mental model is simple: target command plus crosshair plus numeric 0 wakes another entity; self command plus Boolean false wakes the player who runs it. Keep multiplayer authentication and the correct console-opening control separate from that command choice, and each failure point becomes straightforward to diagnose.
