The practical route is to start with the game update, then work through PlayStation’s general troubleshooting steps in order, from the least disruptive to the most. Those steps are standard console guidance for games that will not run properly. They have not been shown to fix Endfield specifically.
Is there an official cause for the PS5 crash?
No. The official material available on Endfield’s PS5 crashes is limited to two things: an update notice from Gryphline dated August 31, 2026, and a 2025 technical-test notice. Neither identifies an active PS5 crash issue, a root cause, or a success rate for any step. Gryphline’s notice describes an update that was mandatory for the September client release, and that maintenance window has already passed, so it should not be read as a current problem report.
The steps below are therefore a sensible order of attack rather than a list of verified cures. PlayStation’s own guidance on games that will not start or run properly is general and is not written about Endfield.
The ten steps, in order
Updates and restarts (steps 1 to 3)

Check for the game update. Gryphline’s August 31, 2026 notice gives the PS5 path: go to the home screen, highlight Arknights: Endfield, press OPTIONS, and select Check for Update. The notice’s wording is “Go to the home screen, select [Arknights: Endfield], press the controller’s [OPTIONS] button, select [Check for Update] to begin downloading.” This only downloads anything if an update is available. Target: game files. Disruption: low.

Check for a PS5 system software update. Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings and install any available update. Target: console software. Disruption: low, though it requires a download.

Restart the PS5. Press the PS button on the controller, open the power options, and choose Restart PS5. This clears temporary state and is fully reversible.
Account and service checks (steps 4 and 5)

Restore licenses. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, while signed in to the account that accesses the game. PlayStation lists this among its steps for games that will not start. Disruption: low, and you can repeat it without consequence.

Check PlayStation service status. Do this if the symptom appears tied to signing in or to online play, which the PlayStation guidance lists under account-access problems. Check the current status before assuming an outage; do not assume one from a crash alone. Disruption: none, since this is a read-only check.

Storage and reinstall (steps 6 and 7)

Move the game off USB extended storage. If Endfield is installed on a USB extended storage drive, move it to the PS5’s internal storage. PlayStation’s guidance treats internal storage as the location for games that will not start. The guidance does not state how long the move takes. Disruption: moderate.

Delete and re-download the game. Use this if the earlier steps have not helped. PlayStation suggests a wired connection if one is available, since an interrupted download can leave the game in a bad state. The guidance we reviewed does not say whether local save data survives deletion, so back up anything important first. Disruption: high, because it requires re-downloading the full game.

Safe Mode repairs (steps 8 and 9)
Both steps run from Safe Mode. To enter it, turn the PS5 off completely, hold the power button until you hear the second beep, and connect a controller with a USB cable. Choose the option from the Safe Mode menu that matches the step.

Clear the PS5 cache. Choose Clear Cache and Restart. This removes temporary system files and restarts the console. Disruption: low.

Rebuild the PS5 database. Choose Rebuild Database. This re-indexes the content on the console. PlayStation’s guidance does not state how long the rebuild takes; expect it to run for a while. Disruption: moderate.

If the crash continues
Step 10 is contacting support, and it is the only step that gives you a diagnosis rather than a fix. The official Endfield PS5 technical-test notice from 2025 directed players to in-game Customer Support under Settings > Contact Customer Support. That route was announced for the test, so check the in-game menu to confirm it still exists in the live release before you rely on it.
When you contact support, include the following so the report can be acted on:
- When the crash happens: at launch, on the title screen, or during play, and roughly how long after starting the game.
- Any error code displayed on screen.
- Whether the game is on internal storage or USB extended storage.
- Which of steps 1 to 9 you have already tried, and the result of each.
Reinstalling PS5 system software
Reinstalling system software is not one of the ten steps. PlayStation lists it only as a deeper escalation after a backup, and it is disruptive. If you reach that point, follow PlayStation’s official Safe Mode instructions rather than improvising, and back up your data first.

Controllers, hardware and purchases
Gryphline’s controller FAQ covers supported controllers and warns that third-party controllers can have compatibility issues. It does not connect controller choice to PS5 crashes, so a controller swap should not be treated as a fix. The PlayStation Store lists Endfield as a free digital PS5 game with optional in-game purchases, and online play is required. The evidence does not support buying a drive, cooling accessory, or replacement part to fix crashes.
What is and is not established
- Established: the PS5 path for checking the game update, and the general PlayStation steps described above.
- Not established: any Endfield-specific PS5 crash cause, any official notice of an active PS5 crash issue, and any success rate for a particular step.
- Time-sensitive: the August 31, 2026 update notice, the 2025 support route, and the status of PlayStation services can all change, so verify them on the day you troubleshoot.
