The Seed-Picking Unit is an AIC facility that extracts seeds from common crops. Guide references report that it processes one crop every two seconds, uses 10 power, and returns either one or two seeds depending on the crop. To use it, research Planting in the Basic II Processing tree, craft the unit, then supply it with crops and power.

What the Seed-Picking Unit does

The item description calls it “A facility that extracts seeds from common crops.” In an AIC production setup, its output is crop seeds for planting; it does not produce the crop itself. The Planting Unit handles growing crops, while the Seed-Picking Unit processes crop inputs into seeds.

The figures and recipes below are reported by community and guide references, not confirmed by an official current facility-mechanics page. The official Game Tools Guide describes tools including a wiki and map, but does not validate this unit’s recipes or requirements. Check the current AIC Planning Interface and facility recipe panel, particularly after a game update.

How to unlock Seed-Picking Unit

  1. Open the AIC Planning Interface and find the Processing research tree.
  2. At Basic II, select the Planting node. Game8 lists the research cost as one Index Point; the Talos Wiki describes the path as Basic AIC Plan – Basic AIC II – Planting.
  3. After unlocking it, use the PAC to construct the facility. Game8 lists a crafting cost of 20 Amethyst Parts.

These unlock and cost details are guide-reported values. If the labels or requirements in your current interface differ, follow the in-game version.

Space, power, and input setup

  • Footprint: Game8 lists a 5×5 area, so reserve that space before laying out nearby crop production.
  • Power: The Talos Wiki reports a draw of 10 power. Connect a suitable power supply and check the facility panel to confirm it is operating.
  • Input: Feed it a common crop. Game8 notes that some plant inputs can be supplied by pipe after upgrading the facility; pipe support is not stated for every crop.
  • Processing interval: The Talos Wiki and Game8 report one input item per two-second cycle. The output quantity is recipe-specific, not a universal two seeds.

Reported Seed-Picking Unit recipes

Game8’s recipe guide lists the following crop inputs and yields. Each listed recipe has a reported two-second cycle; confirm the exact output name and amount in your game before setting up a production target.

Crop input Reported seed output per cycle Reported cycle
Buckflower 2 Buckflower Seeds 2 seconds
Citrome 2 Citrome Seeds 2 seconds
Aketine 2 Aketine Seeds 2 seconds
Yazhen 1 Yazhen Seed 2 seconds
Jincao 1 Jincao Seed 2 seconds
Sandleaf 2 Sandleaf Seeds 2 seconds
Reed Rye 2 Reed Rye Seeds 2 seconds
Tartpepper 2 Tartpepper Seeds 2 seconds
Redjade Ginseng 2 seeds 2 seconds
Amber Rice 2 seeds 2 seconds

These are transcribed from Game8’s Seed-Picking Unit recipe guide; its page was last updated January 30, 2026. The Redjade Ginseng and Amber Rice entries give seed quantities without a more specific output label in the reference.

Planting and Seed-Picking simulation walkthrough

The simulation’s main production chain, as listed by GameWith, is to make Buckflower seeds with a Seed-Picking Unit, grow Buckflowers with a Planting Unit, and then produce Buck Capsule [C]. Approach the objectives in that order so seed production feeds the planting step.

  1. Place and power a Seed-Picking Unit, then process Buckflowers to produce Buckflower Seeds.
  2. Route the seeds to a Planting Unit and grow Buckflowers.
  3. Use the resulting Buckflowers in the production chain to make Buck Capsule [C].

The listed bonus goals are to place only one Seed-Picking Unit and to produce Buckflowers with two Planting Units simultaneously. Plan the planting capacity around simultaneous production rather than adding a second Seed-Picking Unit. GameWith lists 25 Oroberyl and a General Plant Unit Blueprint as rewards. Its guide was last updated March 11, 2026; a video walkthrough also describes the seed-to-crop-to-capsule sequence.

Choosing a practical setup

For an in-game layout, compare the recipes by seed yield per two-second cycle, then account for how crops reach the unit, the 5×5 footprint, and the reported 10-power draw. Manual feeding may be sufficient for a small setup; consider pipe input only where the upgraded unit and that specific crop support it. The references do not establish a single optimal factory design, so choose based on your crop supply and current in-game recipe panel.
