Arma Reforger does not have a published, verified Bohemia Interactive hardware specification for dedicated servers. Bohemia’s documentation confirms that dedicated-server tools are available and that you can host locally or use a third-party host, but the hardware figures circulated online are community estimates rather than official requirements.
Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted Arma Reforger servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
For planning, prioritize a high-clock-speed CPU, enough memory for your player count and mods, SSD storage, and reliable upload bandwidth. A small group can run on modest modern hardware; a 32- to 64-player public server with AI and mods needs substantially more headroom.

What the Arma Reforger server requirements actually mean
The phrase “Arma Reforger server requirements” covers two different thresholds:
- Can it start? A server may launch with relatively little memory and a mainstream processor.
- Can it remain playable? Stable tick performance, acceptable latency, AI simulation and mod loading require considerably more capacity.
Bohemia Interactive has not published a definitive CPU, RAM, storage or bandwidth table in the official material available for this topic. The Bohemia support documentation confirms dedicated-server tools and local or third-party hosting, while the official BIKI server-hosting page is the reference point for setup guidance. Because the hardware section is not consistently visible in current search results, do not label any third-party number as an official Bohemia requirement.

The estimates below come from community guides and forum discussions. They vary by scenario, patch, AI count, mod set, operating system overhead and whether several server instances share one machine. Use the ranges for capacity planning, then leave additional headroom rather than buying to the lowest number.
Quick sizing table by player count
| Target population | CPU planning estimate | RAM planning estimate | Storage estimate | Upload guidance | Use case |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 10 players | Most modern desktop or server CPUs; prioritize strong per-core speed | 8 GB is a sensible floor for the whole machine, subject to mods and other services | 20 GB SSD minimum; keep free space for updates | At least 50 Mbps for a stable small server | Private co-op with limited AI and a light mod set |
| 16–32 players | About four strong, high-clocked cores | Common estimate: about 8 GB; another guide gives 6–10 GB depending on scenario and mods | Often quoted at 25–40 GB on SSD | 50–100 Mbps upload | Public or private server with moderate AI and mods |
| 32–64 players | Six to eight modern cores with high single-thread performance | About 12–16 GB for Campaign or modded servers; 16 GB is the common 64-player estimate | 50 GB or more free space is prudent | 100 Mbps upload as a practical minimum; more is preferable | Large public server, heavier scenarios or substantial mod collections |
| 64+ players | No dependable community baseline; test the exact scenario and leave substantial CPU headroom | Some users report 32 GB can run one large instance and 64 GB is more than enough, but this is anecdotal | At least 50 GB free, increasing with mod archives and additional instances | Gigabit upload is the commonly suggested target for a busy public server | High-population operation requiring measured, scenario-specific tuning |
Every figure in this table is an estimate, not a Bohemia Interactive specification. The ranges are deliberately broad because two community sources can differ by roughly a factor of two.

For an Arma Reforger dedicated server, single-thread performance generally matters more than simply adding cores. Simulation, scripting and parts of the game loop can bottleneck on one busy thread even when other cores are lightly loaded. A processor with fewer fast cores can therefore outperform a many-core chip with lower per-core speed.
Small private groups
Groups below 10 players can usually use most modern desktop or server CPUs, provided the machine is not also running demanding applications. Keep expectations realistic if the scenario contains many AI units or scripts: player count alone is not a complete measure of load.
Sixteen to thirty-two players
Community guidance commonly centers on about four strong cores for this range. Choose a recent processor with high sustained clock speeds and good single-thread results. Four older or low-power cores may start the server but leave little room for AI, background tasks or a growing mod list.
Thirty-two to sixty-four players
Guides generally suggest six to eight modern, high-clocked cores. Forum users often point to Ryzen 5000- or Ryzen 7000-class processors and newer Intel generations for roughly 20 to 50 or more players with mods. Those are examples of processor classes, not a guaranteed compatibility list or an official target.

Why AI changes the answer
Bots and AI entities consume significant CPU resources. Reducing AI counts, disabling unnecessary bots or choosing a less demanding scenario can let weaker hardware maintain a better simulation rate. If a server feels fine with human players but degrades when reinforcements or large AI formations spawn, CPU simulation load is a more likely cause than raw internet speed.
How much RAM does an Arma Reforger server need?
Memory use scales with connected players, scenario complexity, AI and mods. Community figures conflict, so treat them as planning bands:
- One commonly repeated estimate is about 8 GB for roughly 32 players and 16 GB for roughly 64 players.
- Another guide estimates 6–10 GB for 32 players, depending on mods and scenario, and 12–16 GB for 40–64 players on Campaign or modded servers.
- One host reports approximately 3 GB at startup, before player and AI load. Startup consumption should not be mistaken for the memory required during a busy match.
- A Steam community discussion claims 32 GB could run one large instance and that 64 GB is more than enough. This is a single user’s observation, not a controlled benchmark.
Plan RAM for the operating system, logging, update tools and any monitoring software as well as the server process. A machine with exactly the server’s observed peak can still stutter when the OS begins paging. For a 32-player installation, 16 GB total system memory gives more operational margin than an 8 GB machine; for a 64-player modded installation, 32 GB is a safer starting point than 16 GB, even though neither figure is an official requirement.
Signs that memory is the constraint
- Used memory rises steadily during a session and does not fall after players leave.
- The operating system begins swapping to disk, with long pauses or severe hitching.
- Adding a large mod collection causes startup failures or instability while the vanilla scenario remains usable.
Check the server process and total system memory during a full-load test, not immediately after launch. Record the peak after players join, AI spawn and every planned mod has initialized.

Storage: SSD capacity and speed
Community guides consistently expect an SSD. A mechanical hard drive can increase startup, update and asset-loading times and may worsen pauses when the server accesses data under load. NVMe is preferred where affordable, although a good SATA SSD is still a major step up from a hard disk.
Published estimates are inconsistent:
- 20 GB SSD is often described as a minimum installation target.
- Other guidance suggests 25–40 GB for 16–32 players.
- For larger or heavily modded servers, keep 50 GB or more free.
Free space is not the same as the base installation size. Updates, workshop or mod downloads, logs, crash dumps and a second test instance can consume the remainder. Allocate extra capacity if you expect to maintain multiple scenarios or keep rollback copies.

Network and upload requirements
For a self-hosted server, upload capacity and connection quality matter more than download speed. Community guidance commonly puts a small stable server around 50 Mbps upload, with 100 Mbps upload treated as a practical minimum for a larger or public installation. Some users report that 100 Mbps up and down is enough for about 50 players, but that is an individual experience rather than a universal limit.
Gigabit upload is the preferred target for a busy public server because it leaves room for bursts, updates and other household or datacenter traffic. The advertised ISP rate is not the same as guaranteed usable bandwidth. Check actual upstream throughput, latency, packet loss and whether the provider uses carrier-grade NAT.
Home-hosting checks
- Use a wired Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi.
- Reserve a stable local IP for the server machine and configure the required firewall and router rules according to the official hosting instructions.
- Test while other users are streaming or uploading; saturation can create latency even when average bandwidth appears adequate.
- Confirm that the ISP permits inbound hosting and provides a reachable public address.
Rented hosting can simplify routing and uptime, but the same CPU, RAM, storage and bandwidth questions still apply. Ask the host what processor generation, guaranteed memory, storage type and network port are included instead of relying on a package label such as “game server.”
Do you need a GPU?
No dedicated graphics card is normally required. Dedicated servers run headless, so CPU performance, RAM capacity and storage responsiveness determine server capacity. An integrated GPU is sufficient for basic display output if the operating system requires one. Spending the budget on a faster processor, more memory or an SSD is more useful than adding a gaming GPU.
Supported operating-system choices
Community setup guides list Windows 10 and Windows 11, Windows Server 2019 or newer, and current Ubuntu LTS releases. The exact supported combination can change with server tools and patches, so follow the version and dependencies stated in the current Bohemia hosting documentation.
Windows
Windows is convenient if you already administer Windows machines and need familiar firewall, service and remote-desktop tools. Reserve memory for updates and background services, and configure the server to restart cleanly after maintenance.

Ubuntu LTS
Ubuntu LTS can reduce desktop overhead and is common for rented virtual or bare-metal servers. Keep the system patched, document the service account and paths, and verify that the server tools and required libraries support the specific LTS release you select.
Mods, scenarios and AI: the capacity multipliers
Player count is only one input. A 20-player server with extensive scripted mods and hundreds of AI units can demand more CPU and RAM than a lightly modded 40-player session. Before choosing hardware, define:
- Maximum concurrent human players.
- Whether Campaign or other heavier scenarios are required.
- Expected AI or bot counts and whether they change during missions.
- The size and number of mods, including dependencies and update frequency.
- Whether one machine will host multiple instances, voice services, databases or web panels.
When any of these variables is unknown, size for the next larger band and measure. Removing a problematic mod or reducing AI can be a more effective fix than changing the network plan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose hardware step by step
- Set the population target. Choose the highest simultaneous player count, not the average.
- Define the heaviest scenario. Include Campaign, planned AI waves and the complete mod collection.
- Select CPU first. Favor recent high-clocked cores and leave spare capacity for simulation spikes.
- Size memory second. Use the relevant community range, then add room for the operating system, updates and monitoring.
- Install on an SSD. Prefer NVMe and retain free capacity for patches, mods and logs.
- Verify upload. Target roughly 50 Mbps for a small stable server, 100 Mbps or more for larger populations, and substantially more for public growth.
- Load-test before opening publicly. Join with the expected player count, spawn the planned AI and let every mod initialize while recording CPU, RAM, disk and network behavior.
Troubleshooting by symptom
Players report rubber-banding or slow simulation
Check the busiest CPU thread and AI count first. Lower AI or script-heavy features, then test again. If one core is saturated while total CPU usage looks moderate, adding more low-speed cores is unlikely to solve the bottleneck.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Players are disconnected when many people join
Measure upstream utilization, packet loss and router queues during the join spike. If upload is saturated, reduce competing traffic or move to a connection with more upstream capacity. Also check whether the host’s public port or NAT configuration is stable.
Startup works but the server crashes after loading mods
Confirm available memory and free SSD space, then test the mod set in smaller groups to identify conflicts or unusually heavy content. A 3 GB startup reading does not prove that the machine has enough RAM for a populated, modded session.

Long pauses occur during updates or asset loads
Move the installation from a hard disk to an SSD, keep free space available and avoid running large downloads on the same saturated drive while players are connected.
Self-hosting versus rented infrastructure
Self-hosting gives you control over hardware, files and upgrades, but you are responsible for port forwarding, power, operating-system maintenance, DDoS exposure and a stable public connection. It is a good fit for a small group with a reliable wired connection and someone comfortable administering the machine.

Practical recommendation for 2026
For a private server under 16 players, use a modern CPU with strong single-thread performance, at least 8 GB of system RAM, a 20 GB or larger SSD allocation and about 50 Mbps upload. For 16–32 players, plan around four fast cores, 16 GB total RAM for headroom, 25–40 GB of SSD space and 50–100 Mbps upload. For 32–64 players with Campaign, AI or substantial mods, start around six to eight modern high-clocked cores, 32 GB RAM, 50 GB or more of free SSD space and at least 100 Mbps upload. Treat 64-player and larger deployments as a measured engineering exercise: community anecdotes mention 32–64 GB RAM, but there is no verified universal specification.
These numbers can change with patches and content. Recheck the current Bohemia server-hosting documentation before deployment, and base the final purchase on a load test using the exact player count, AI behavior and mods your community will run.
