aslunittesting.dll errors usually come from an incomplete or damaged Adobe video application installation. Before replacing the file, identify which Adobe program is failing and confirm whether the DLL is missing from that program’s own folder.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Check these points before changing anything:
- Which program fails: Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects, or another application.
- When the error appears: immediately at startup, when opening a project, after an update, or after an uninstall, migration, cleanup, or antivirus detection.
- Where the file is expected: the Adobe application’s installation directory, not
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - Whether the message names this file or a dependency: “The specified module could not be found” can mean a dependency of
aslunittesting.dllis missing. - Application architecture: the installed Adobe build may be 32-bit or 64-bit, and its private DLL must match that build.
- Installation source: Creative Cloud, an older licensed Adobe installer, managed company deployment, or an unofficial repack.
ASLUnitTesting.dll is associated with older Adobe video applications, principally Premiere Pro and Media Encoder CC 2014. Public traces also show it with After Effects CC 2014. It is not a Windows system DLL, Microsoft Visual C++ file, or DirectX component.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the affected Adobe application
This is the most likely and safest fix because the DLL belongs with the application that installed it. Replacing one file can leave other Adobe libraries, plugins, or dependencies mismatched.
Before uninstalling
- Close Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, After Effects, Creative Cloud, and other Adobe processes.
- Save and back up important project files.
- Note the exact Adobe product and version shown in the error or Creative Cloud.
- If the application still opens on another Windows account or workstation, record its installation location and version.
Reinstall through Creative Cloud
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select Apps and then All Apps.
- Find the Adobe application that displays the error.
- Select the More actions button represented by three dots.
- Choose Uninstall.
- When prompted, choose whether to retain or remove preferences.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Install the affected application.
- Start it before restoring plugins or third-party extensions.
A successful repair restores the application’s files and allows the program to start without the aslunittesting.dll message. If the error changes to another missing or unloadable DLL, that usually means the original installation was only partially repaired or another dependency is damaged. Reinstall the application again rather than downloading the newly named file separately.

If Creative Cloud itself will not work, repair Creative Cloud first using its official uninstall and repair workflow. If repair fails, reinstall Creative Cloud, then reinstall the Adobe application.
For older CC 2014 installations, do not assume that Creative Cloud still provides that exact release. Adobe’s available-version policy can change, and older major versions may not be offered to every account. Use the original licensed installer, approved company deployment, or an administrator-managed installation. Do not use an unofficial repack.
Fix 2: Check whether Windows Security quarantined the file
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a legitimate application file. It can also detect a malicious file using the same name, so restoring it blindly is unsafe.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries created when the Adobe application stopped starting.
- Open the relevant detection and check:
- the full file path;
- the detection name;
- the publisher or digital signature, if shown;
- whether the path is inside the expected Adobe installation folder.
- Run a current Windows Security scan.
- If the file is legitimate but missing, reinstall the Adobe application instead of restoring an isolated copy.
A file found in the expected Adobe program directory deserves different treatment from one found in %TEMP%, %APPDATA%, or another unrelated location. Malware has used this filename alongside fake Adobe-named executables and other payloads. That does not mean every copy is malicious, but an unexpected location is a reason to investigate rather than allow the file.
If the detection returns after reinstalling, leave the file quarantined and contact your IT administrator or Adobe support. Do not create a broad antivirus exclusion for an entire drive.

Fix 3: Verify the file location and architecture
A private application DLL should normally remain beside the executable that loads it. Windows searches application locations as part of its normal DLL loading process, while system folders are not a substitute for the application directory. See Microsoft’s DLL search order documentation.
To inspect the installation:
- Right-click the Adobe application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for
aslunittesting.dllin that folder or an appropriate subfolder. - Right-click the file, choose Properties, and inspect Digital Signatures if that tab is available.
- Confirm that the path belongs to the Adobe installation you intended to launch.
Do not rely on third-party archive labels for version, size, hash, or bitness. Public records conflict about the file’s version and architecture. A DLL from a different Adobe build can produce errors such as “not designed to run on Windows” or 0xc000007b.
If the Adobe application is 32-bit, it requires matching 32-bit application files. A 64-bit DLL is not an upgrade for a 32-bit program, and copying a similarly named file from another Adobe product can make the installation less consistent.
Fix 4: Determine whether a dependency is actually missing
The message “Error loading aslunittesting.dll. The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named file is absent. Windows may be unable to load a library required by that DLL.
Check the exact dialog and any follow-up event:
- Open Event Viewer from the Start menu.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error created at the same time as the Adobe failure.
- Note the executable name and any other DLL named in the event.
- Search the Adobe installer or application logs for the same filename.
The repeatable fix is still to reinstall the complete Adobe application. This restores the dependency set together. Installing a random Microsoft runtime may not help because the missing component could be another Adobe library, a plugin, a codec, or a damaged application file.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Windows integrity checks are secondary here. aslunittesting.dll is an Adobe application file, so System File Checker normally will not recreate it. These commands are useful when Windows component corruption is preventing installers or applications from operating correctly.

- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Adobe application again.
Microsoft documents this DISM and SFC repair sequence and the purpose of System File Checker.
If DISM reports that it cannot complete the repair, restart and run it again while connected to the internet. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Adobe after rebooting. If both commands complete normally but the DLL error remains, return to the Adobe repair path.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make diagnosis slow. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it found; repairs are performed by the full version, but reinstalling the Adobe application remains the definitive fix for this app-specific DLL.
Fix 6: Update Adobe, Windows, and relevant drivers
An old Adobe build can fail after a Windows update, graphics driver change, plugin installation, or project migration. First update the Adobe application through its supported Adobe channel. Then install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
If the error appears when opening or exporting video, check the graphics driver as a separate diagnostic step:

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
Do not replace aslunittesting.dll with a file from a different architecture while troubleshooting drivers. If updating the driver changes the error but does not restore startup, reinstall the Adobe application and test before adding third-party codecs or plugins.

Avoid the common instructions to:
- download
aslunittesting.dllfrom a random DLL archive; - copy it to
C:WindowsSystem32; - copy it to
C:WindowsSysWOW64; - register it with
regsvr32; - rename another DLL to this filename;
- use a file from another Adobe product or computer.
These actions can introduce malware, create an architecture mismatch, and hide the original installation problem. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer; a private Adobe support library may not implement them. Microsoft explains the relevant regsvr32 registration failures.

If the error continues after reinstalling
Work through this escalation checklist:
- Confirm that the error names the same Adobe executable every time.
- Check whether
aslunittesting.dllexists in that executable’s installation directory. - Confirm the file path and digital signature.
- Review Windows Security Protection History again.
- Remove or temporarily disable only known third-party Adobe plugins for testing.
- Check Event Viewer for a different missing dependency.
- Review Adobe installer logs for failed file operations.
- Test the application with a new Windows user profile.
- Check permissions on the Adobe installation directory.
- If the problem began after disk failure or recovery, back up projects and repair the installation from a known-good source.
A failure limited to one Windows profile points toward preferences, permissions, plugins, or profile data. It does not mean the DLL belongs in a Windows system folder.

Is aslunittesting.dll a Windows file?
No evidence shows that it ships with Windows. It appears to be a private Adobe application DLL associated with older video applications.

Should I install Visual C++ or DirectX?
Not as the primary fix. Reinstall the Adobe application first. A later dependency error may identify a separate runtime requirement.
Can I download the DLL by itself?
That is unsafe and often ineffective. A standalone file may be malicious, the wrong architecture, or incompatible with the Adobe build. Restore the complete application from an official or verified source.
Why did reinstalling create a different DLL error?
The original file may have been restored while another dependency, plugin, or application component remains damaged. Record the new filename and repeat the complete application repair rather than copying individual files.
What does error 0xc000007b mean here?
It commonly indicates an invalid, corrupt, or wrong-architecture binary. Check whether the Adobe application and all of its private libraries come from the same installation, then reinstall the application.
