You may see one of these messages when starting AutoCAD, Land Desktop, Map 3D, Architectural Desktop, or another older Autodesk application:

  • Unable to find the asmm80enures.dll file.
  • Error loading asmm80enures.dll. The specified module could not be found.
  • The program can't start because asmm80enures.dll is missing from your computer.
  • This application failed to start because asmm80enures.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Some Autodesk products also display ACIS Message Initialization Failure before the DLL error.

The 60-second answer

asmm80enures.dll is an application file associated with Autodesk ShapeManager, Autodesk’s solid-modeling technology. It is not a normal Windows system DLL.

The safest repair is to identify the Autodesk program that is failing, then repair or reinstall that exact program from its original Autodesk installer, installation media, or company deployment. If the product is from the AutoCAD 2005 or Land Desktop 2005 generation, install the matching official Service Pack 1 after confirming the product edition and language.

Do not download a standalone copy from a random DLL website, copy it into System32 or SysWOW64, or run regsvr32 as a first response. Those steps can introduce an incompatible file and usually do not repair the underlying Autodesk installation.

What is asmm80enures.dll?

The filename is associated with Autodesk ShapeManager. Public file metadata describes the internal name as messages, with Autodesk, Inc. listed as the developer.

ShapeManager is Autodesk’s solid-modeling kernel, derived from ACIS and used in Autodesk design products. The file is therefore best treated as a private Autodesk application component, not as a shared Windows component.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The strongest documented association is with legacy Autodesk products from the AutoCAD 2005-era. Autodesk’s Land Desktop 2005 Service Pack 1 documentation specifically describes a fix for the message Unable to find the asmm80enures.dll while modeler DLLs load in a mixed-language environment.

The file may be encountered with products including:

  • AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT from the 2005 generation
  • Autodesk Land Desktop
  • Autodesk Map 3D
  • Architectural Desktop
  • Other Autodesk products that used a compatible ShapeManager release

That does not mean every product uses the same copy. Different Autodesk releases, languages, editions, and architectures may require different binaries.

Is it a Windows file?

No verified evidence indicates that asmm80enures.dll ships with Windows 10 or Windows 11. It should normally be located in the folder belonging to the Autodesk application or one of its private component folders.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Windows normally searches an application’s own directory for application-specific DLLs. Microsoft documents this behavior in its DLL search order documentation.

Common causes

The likely causes, in order, are:

  1. The Autodesk installation is incomplete or damaged.
  2. A legacy product was patched with the wrong Service Pack 1 package.
  3. A mixed-language installation has the documented 2005-era loading problem.
  4. A dependent Autodesk DLL is missing, even though asmm80enures.dll itself exists.
  5. Antivirus software quarantined or removed the file.
  6. A DLL was copied from another computer with a different release, language, or architecture.
  7. The old Autodesk program is running on a newer Windows version for which compatibility is not established.

The message specified module could not be found does not always mean the named file is absent. Windows may have found asmm80enures.dll but failed to load one of its dependencies.

Fix 1: Identify the Autodesk program that owns the file

Before changing files, determine which program produces the error.

  1. Close the error dialog.
  2. Note the application name in the title bar or message.
  3. Check the shortcut:
  4. Right-click the shortcut.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. Read the Target field.
  7. Check Settings:
  8. Press Windows + I.
  9. Select Apps.
  10. Select Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps & features in Windows 10.
  11. Search for Autodesk, AutoCAD, Land Desktop, Map 3D, or Architectural Desktop.
  12. If the program is not listed, check the Start menu, desktop shortcuts, and the folder containing the executable.

Do not begin by searching the entire Windows drive for a replacement DLL. The owning application and its release determine which copy is appropriate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the Autodesk application

This is the most reliable fix for a missing or damaged file.

Try the Windows repair option

  1. Press Windows + I.
  2. Open Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps or Apps & features.
  4. Find the affected Autodesk product.
  5. Select the three-dot menu, if present.
  6. Choose Advanced options.
  7. Select Repair, if Windows provides that option.
  8. Start the Autodesk application again.

Older Autodesk installers may not expose a Windows repair button. In that case, use the original installer or installation media.

Use the Autodesk installer

  1. Locate the original Autodesk CD, network deployment, installation folder, or legitimate installation package.
  2. Run the installer.
  3. If Windows displays User Account Control, select Yes.
  4. Choose Repair, Reinstall, or the equivalent maintenance option.
  5. Keep the original product language and edition.
  6. Restart Windows after the installer finishes.
  7. Start the Autodesk program again.

If the installer requests the original CD or network image, provide the same source used for the initial installation. A different release or language package may not contain compatible files.

If repair does not exist

Uninstall and reinstall the affected Autodesk product.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Save your drawings, templates, profiles, and customizations.
  2. Open Settings with Windows + I.
  3. Select Apps.
  4. Open Installed apps or Apps & features.
  5. Select the Autodesk product.
  6. Choose Uninstall.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. Install the product again from its original, trusted source.
  9. Apply only updates intended for that exact product.

If the application is supplied by an employer, school, or organization, contact the administrator responsible for the deployment rather than mixing files from another computer.

Fix 3: Apply the correct Service Pack 1 to a 2005-era product

Autodesk documented the missing-file problem for Land Desktop 2005 when modeler DLLs loaded in a mixed-language environment. The appropriate product Service Pack 1 may resolve the problem.

This path is relevant only when the installed product matches the documented release. Do not apply a 2005 update to a newer Autodesk product.

Check the product and edition first

Confirm:

  • The exact Autodesk product name
  • The product release
  • The installed language
  • Whether the installation is locked or unlocked
  • Whether the package is for AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, or Land Desktop

For AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT 2005, Autodesk documented separate Service Pack 1 packages, including ACAD2005sp1SWL.exe for a locked edition and a corresponding unlocked-edition package where applicable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For Land Desktop 2005, the documented packages include:

  • Land2005SwlSP1.exe
  • Land2005UnlSP1.exe

Locked and unlocked packages must not be mixed. The installer may also request the original CD or network installation image.

Install the matching update

  1. Close the Autodesk application.
  2. Back up important project files.
  3. Obtain the Service Pack 1 package from the product’s legitimate Autodesk installation or support source.
  4. Confirm that the package matches the product and edition.
  5. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
  6. Follow the prompts.
  7. Restart Windows.
  8. Start the Autodesk application and test the operation that previously failed.

If the product language does not match the update, stop rather than forcing the installation. A wrong-language patch can leave the installation in a less usable state.

What does mixed language environment mean?

It generally means that Windows, the Autodesk product, its installed resources, or the service pack do not all use the same expected language configuration. This was a documented concern for some older Autodesk products while modeler components loaded.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It does not necessarily mean that Windows itself is broken. Check the Autodesk product language and Service Pack 1 edition before changing Windows language settings.

Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine

Security software may remove or quarantine an application DLL after an installation, update, or scan.

Windows Security

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Type Windows Security.
  3. Open it.
  4. Select Virus & threat protection.
  5. Select Protection history.
  6. Look for an event involving the Autodesk installation folder or asmm80enures.dll.
  7. Expand the event and inspect its location and detection details.

Restore or allow the file only when all of these are true:

  • It came from the verified Autodesk installation.
  • The installation source is trusted.
  • The file is in the expected Autodesk application folder.
  • The product installation itself has not been tampered with.

Do not restore a file downloaded from a DLL archive. If antivirus removed a legitimate file, repairing or reinstalling the Autodesk application is usually safer than restoring an isolated copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After repair, add an exclusion only if your organization’s security policy permits it and you have verified the installation. Do not broadly exclude the Windows or entire program drive.

Fix 5: Check whether the file exists in the application folder

This check helps distinguish a missing file from a dependency problem.

  1. Right-click the Autodesk shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Select Open File Location.
  4. Look in the folder containing the Autodesk executable and its component folders.
  5. Search that Autodesk installation folder for asmm80enures.dll.

If the file is absent, repair or reinstall the owning application.

If it is present but the error continues:

  • Do not replace it with a copy from another computer.
  • Check whether another Autodesk DLL was quarantined.
  • Repair the complete installation.
  • Review the application’s installation log.
  • Check Event Viewer for the failing executable and dependent module.

To open Event Viewer:

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type eventvwr.msc.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Open Windows Logs.
  5. Select Application.
  6. Look for an error at the time the Autodesk program failed.

Fix 6: Do not copy the DLL into System32 or SysWOW64

System32 and SysWOW64 are Windows system directories, not general-purpose storage locations for application DLLs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On 64-bit Windows:

  • System32 normally contains 64-bit system components.
  • SysWOW64 normally contains 32-bit system components.

The folder names can be confusing, but neither directory is the correct default location for this Autodesk file. Windows applications commonly load private DLLs from their own installation directory.

Copying the file into both directories can:

  • Hide the real installation problem
  • Load the wrong Autodesk release
  • Create an architecture mismatch
  • Leave dependent DLLs missing
  • Affect unrelated programs

Public file listings have reported conflicting architecture information for this filename. Do not assume that every copy is 32-bit or every copy is 64-bit. Use the binary supplied by the exact Autodesk product and release.

Fix 7: Do not run regsvr32 for this file

Do not use this as a routine repair:

regsvr32 asmm80enures.dll

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer or DllInstall. Microsoft documents it as a registry-registration utility, not as a general missing-DLL repair command. See Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation.

There is no verified evidence that asmm80enures.dll is a COM or ActiveX component requiring registration. Running the command may produce an entry-point or registration error and will not restore a damaged Autodesk installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 8: Repair Windows components only when Windows has broader problems

SFC and DISM repair Windows-protected files and the Windows component store. They do not normally recreate a third-party Autodesk ShapeManager DLL.

Use them when other Windows components are also failing, Windows Update is damaged, or the system shows broader corruption.

Run DISM

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Type Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for the operation to complete.
  2. Restart Windows.

Run System File Checker

Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:

sfc /scannow

Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and test the Autodesk program.

If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Windows and the Autodesk application again. If it reports no integrity violations, that does not prove the Autodesk DLL is present. Return to the Autodesk repair or reinstall path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When manually repeating DISM and SFC becomes guesswork, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while repair features require the full version. Reinstalling the Autodesk product remains the definitive fix when its private DLL is missing.

Fix 9: Check drivers only for a broader Autodesk startup problem

A graphics or device driver can contribute to application crashes, display failures, or compatibility problems, but updating a driver is not the primary repair for a missing asmm80enures.dll.

Use Device Manager if the Autodesk application also shows display problems or Windows reports a device error.

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Display adapters.
  4. Right-click the graphics adapter.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. Open the Driver tab.
  7. Note the provider and driver date.
  8. Select Update Driver.
  9. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  10. Restart Windows if an update is installed.

Do not remove a working driver merely because the Autodesk DLL error remains. If a driver update causes new problems, use Roll Back Driver in the same properties window when available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When checking several devices manually means hunting through different manufacturer pages, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; its free scan shows the findings, while driver installation requires the full version. It is not a substitute for repairing the Autodesk installation that owns this DLL.

Fix 10: Consider System Restore only after a recent change

System Restore is reasonable when:

  • The Autodesk application worked previously.
  • The file disappeared after a recent update, cleanup, or software change.
  • A restore point exists from before the failure.

To check:

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type rstrui.exe.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Review the available restore points.
  5. Choose one created before the problem began.
  6. Confirm the affected programs and complete the restore.

System Restore is not a replacement for reinstalling an obsolete Autodesk product. Back up current work first, and do not use it solely to recover a DLL from an untrusted source.

Fix 11: Handle old Autodesk software on newer Windows carefully

Autodesk 2005-era products were designed for much older Windows environments. Their archived Service Pack documentation does not establish current support for Windows 10 or Windows 11.

If the program still fails after a correct repair:

  1. Right-click the Autodesk executable or shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
  5. Test an older Windows mode appropriate to the product’s original era.
  6. Select Run this program as an administrator only if required.
  7. Select Apply, then OK.
  8. Start the application.

Compatibility mode may help, but it does not guarantee that old licensing, installers, graphics components, or dependencies will work on a current Windows release. If the software is business-critical, use a supported environment approved by the software owner or your organization.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If reinstalling still fails

Work through these checks:

  1. Confirm that you repaired the application producing the error, not another Autodesk product.
  2. Confirm the product language and locked or unlocked edition.
  3. Remove any manually copied DLL from the Autodesk folder.
  4. Run the original installer as administrator.
  5. Temporarily check antivirus Protection history again after reinstalling.
  6. Review the Autodesk installation log.
  7. Check Event Viewer under Windows Logs and Application.
  8. Look for a missing dependent Autodesk module rather than focusing only on the named file.
  9. Check available disk space and permissions on the installation folder.
  10. Test with a clean Windows user profile if the failure appears limited to one account.

Do not combine DLLs from multiple Autodesk releases. A matching filename does not prove binary compatibility.

Frequently asked questions

Is asmm80enures.dll part of Windows?

No. It is associated with Autodesk ShapeManager and should normally remain with the Autodesk application that installed it.

Which Autodesk program uses it?

The strongest documented association is with legacy AutoCAD-era products, especially Land Desktop 2005. Map 3D, AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, Architectural Desktop, and other Autodesk products may use related ShapeManager components, but the correct file depends on the exact product and release.

Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?

There is no verified universal architecture for every legitimate copy. Use the file supplied by the exact Autodesk installation rather than choosing a download based on a label.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I download a replacement DLL?

No. Random DLL downloads can contain malware or the wrong version, language, or architecture. They also do not repair missing dependent files. Use the original Autodesk installer, installation media, deployment image, or legitimate Autodesk support channel.

Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?

There is no reliable evidence that those runtimes are the primary fix for this particular file. Install or repair them only when a separate error specifically identifies a missing runtime.

Will SFC restore the file?

Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not third-party Autodesk application files.

Does regsvr32 fix it?

Normally no. This file is not documented here as a COM or ActiveX component that requires registration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if the application starts after copying the file?

Treat that as temporary and unsafe. Remove the copied file and repair the Autodesk installation so that the correct release, language, architecture, and dependencies are restored together.
