For the main series, play the Assassin’s Creed games in release order from Assassin’s Creed (2007) through Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (2026). This list follows Ubisoft’s release-year guide, updated with the later releases listed by Ubisoft. It separates mainline games from notable story-bearing spin-offs and the Chronicles trilogy; it is not a catalog of every mobile, handheld, regional, or delisted game.
Assassin’s Creed games in mainline release order
Ubisoft’s franchise page and store listings extend the publisher’s May 2024 release-order guide, which ended with Mirage. The list below uses release years, not exact launch dates: Ubisoft’s guide does not give day-and-month dates for every entry, and two games share 2014.
- Assassin’s Creed (2007)
- Assassin’s Creed II (2009)
- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (2010)
- Assassin’s Creed Revelations (2011)
- Assassin’s Creed III (2012)
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)
- Assassin’s Creed Rogue (2014)
- Assassin’s Creed Unity (2014)
- Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (2015)
- Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017)
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018)
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020)
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage (2023)
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows (2025)
- Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (2026)
Ubisoft lists Rogue before Unity among the 2014 releases. That ordering reflects the guide’s sequence; the year alone does not establish a universal ordering for every regional launch.
Notable spin-offs and related releases
These games add playable stories or distinct subseries, but Ubisoft’s guide does not present them as equivalent entries in its main release sequence.

- Assassin’s Creed Chronicles (2015–2016): a trilogy of separate games set in China, India, and Russia. The date range covers the series rather than one standard mainline release.
This is a useful expanded list, not a claim to include every platform-specific, mobile, handheld, regional, or delisted release. Ubisoft describes a catalog of “more than 18 games” in its May 13, 2024 guide, but that is a count from that date, not a current exact total.
Should you play in release order or historical order?
Release order follows when the games came out, so it shows how the series’ stories and mechanics developed. It is the clearest choice if you want to follow the franchise’s narrative introductions; for example, Ubisoft notes that Mirage focuses on Basim, who was introduced in Valhalla.

- Learn the ways of the Assassins and seek vengeance for the betrayal of your family
- Journey through 15th-century Renaissance Italy and become the most legendary leader of the Brotherhood, then embark on a final quest of discovery as you learn the truth about the Creed
- Includes enhanced features for the Nintendo Switch system, such as HD Rumble and more
Historical order instead sorts games by the period represented in their settings. The two approaches are not interchangeable: Ubisoft notes that the games jump between historical eras. Choose release order to follow publication and story development, or historical order if moving through represented eras matters more to you. A historical-order list requires its own sorting and inclusion choices; the release-year sequence above should not be read as one.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What “complete list” means here
Ubisoft’s May 2024 release-order guide is selective: it includes main installments, identifies Liberation and Freedom Cry alongside them, and groups Chronicles as a trilogy. It does not define a complete all-platform franchise catalog. This article therefore gives the mainline sequence and the related story-bearing releases Ubisoft highlights, rather than implying that every game across every platform is included.
