Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available for Apple-silicon Macs, but the announced iPad version has not been verified as released. Ubisoft still describes it as coming to iPad, and the U.S. App Store listing identifies the game as “Only for Mac.” As of August 18, 2026, no iPad release date was listed in the sources checked.
Is Assassin’s Creed Shadows available on Mac or iPad?
The original “coming to your iPad and Mac” framing is outdated for Mac and premature for iPad. The Mac edition launched on March 20, 2025, through the Mac App Store. Ubisoft continues to describe an iPad version as forthcoming, but it has not provided a verified release date in the sources checked. The U.S. App Store listing remains Mac-only, even when opened through an iPad-filtered link.

Ubisoft lists the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Windows PC, Amazon Luna, Ubisoft+, and Apple-silicon Macs. Platform availability and purchase terms vary by storefront; a Mac App Store purchase should not be assumed to grant access on another platform.
What does the Mac version cost, and what is included?
The U.S. Mac App Store listing showed a $69.99 price when checked on August 18, 2026. Prices can vary by country and change over time. That listing is for the base game; Claws of Awaji appears as a separate $24.99 in-app purchase in the U.S. store. The Premium Edition on Ubisoft’s storefront includes the expansion and additional bonus content, but do not assume those entitlements transfer to the Mac App Store.

The game is an open-world action-adventure set in feudal Japan. Naoe is a stealth-focused shinobi Assassin, while Yasuke is built for direct, forceful combat. Ubisoft’s June 2026 final major update added the “Black Tides” story content and the Domains end-game feature.
Mac requirements: compatibility is not a performance guarantee
Apple’s store listing gives a broad compatibility floor and a more demanding performance target. An M1-or-newer label means the Mac is listed as compatible; it does not promise that every such Mac will deliver the same visual quality or frame rate.

| Controllers | The listing identifies compatible PlayStation, Xbox, and MFi controllers. |
Apple’s developer feature says the Mac version uses Metal 3 and supports HDR, with real-time ray tracing on M3 and M4 Macs. That is a description of supported technology, not independent evidence of a particular frame rate or image quality on every machine.

- Confirm that it has Apple silicon; Intel Macs are not listed as supported.
- Check the exact chip, GPU configuration, unified memory, storage, and cooling rather than relying only on the M1-or-newer compatibility label.
- Keep more free space than the listed minimum if possible. Installation, updates, and macOS temporary files can need extra room.
- If using a third-party or older Bluetooth controller, verify compatibility with your macOS version and device before purchase.
A base M1 Mac may meet the broad compatibility listing while falling short of the cited performance target. A fanless laptop and an actively cooled Mac can also behave differently during long gaming sessions; there are no universal performance guarantees for each configuration in the store listing.

What is known about the iPad version?
Ubisoft announced that Shadows would come to iPad later, and Apple’s developer announcement specifically referred to iPads with M-series chips. Ubisoft’s current game page still uses future-oriented wording. But the current U.S. App Store entry says “Only for Mac,” and no public iPad release date or separate iPad listing was verified as of August 18, 2026.
That leaves several practical details unknown: the supported iPad models, iPadOS requirements, price, storage needs, controls, and whether Mac and iPad purchases or saves will be shared. The absence of an iPad version from Ubisoft’s June 16, 2026 final-update platform list does not establish that the port was canceled.
If you want to play on an iPad now, Assassin’s Creed Mirage has a native iPad listing. It is a different game, not a way to play Shadows; the U.S. listing shows $29.99 and specifies compatible M-series or A17 Pro iPads, subject to its operating-system requirements.

- It may suit you if you already own a capable Apple-silicon Mac, have ample storage, and want a native Mac App Store version.
- Think carefully if you have a base-model or thermally constrained Mac: broad compatibility does not mean the published performance target applies to your configuration.
- Wait before buying hardware for the iPad port. Ubisoft has not supplied a date, supported-model list, or iPad-specific requirements in the sources checked.
- Choose another platform if needed. The game is available on several non-Apple platforms, but ownership and progress should not be presumed to carry over to the Mac edition.
Ubisoft announced its final major update for June 16, 2026. A future iPad release would therefore follow the game’s announced major content cycle; whether it would receive additional updates or how it would be positioned is not confirmed.
