Naoe gets the deeper infiltration toolkit, while both characters share core movement options such as going prone. These are the mechanics as announced at the time; the cited coverage does not establish how they may have changed in later updates.
How scouting works: Observe and Eagle Vision
Ubisoft’s November 21, 2024 deep-dive, reproduced by WorthPlaying, describes Observe as a shared information tool for Naoe and Yasuke. It can identify targets, tag and monitor enemies, and reveal lootable stashes, collectibles, and quest objectives. At a Synch Point, it can also help examine nearby locations.

Eagle Vision serves a different, more focused stealth role. The reveal assigns it to Naoe: she can use it to spot enemies through walls or other obstacles, pick out relevant sounds, and find hiding places. Observe and Eagle Vision can be combined, but they do not expose identical information.
Simon, Associate Game Director, called Observe “at the core of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows experience.”

How posture, shadows, and noise affect stealth
The reveal presents stealth as more than staying out of an enemy’s line of sight. At night, pockets of shadow can provide places to hide. Crouching reduces noise and visibility, particularly indoors, and can lower the chance of bumping into noisy objects or setting off creaking floors.
Both Naoe and Yasuke can go prone, reducing visibility while on the ground, on rooftops, or underwater. Naoe has additional prone movement options: she can roll and crawl through some openings. These are the announced mechanics; the sources do not establish that every surface or location behaves identically across later versions or difficulty settings.
Naoe’s tools and close-range options
Naoe’s four named stealth tools each serve a different purpose:
Rank #2
- Experience an epic, historical action adventure in feudal Japan and become a deadly Shinobi assassin and a powerful legendary samurai as you explore a beautiful open game world in chaotic times
- Sneak as a Naoe to not be discovered, use your agility to confuse your opponents and stretch down your opponents with deadly precision and power as a Yasuke

- Create a fully customizable hideaway for your growing Shinobi league, where you train recruits, craft new equipment and interact with important characters; set the room layout, decoration and accessories yourself
- Smoke Bomb: Creates a chance to escape or set up an assassination against lower-ranked enemies.
- Shinobi Bell: Lures guards toward its sound.
- Kunai: Deals damage and can kill when aimed precisely.
- Shuriken: Briefly stuns a target or creates an environmental distraction.
Double assassinations return under a specific condition: equip the Tanto as Naoe’s main weapon and unlock the dedicated skill. That lets her eliminate two nearby enemies with the Hidden Blade. While undetected, she can also grab an enemy and drag them for a silent assassination or a non-lethal takedown.
What happens when enemies detect you
Detection can change how a location responds. Servants are non-lethal alarm-raisers. If enemies spot Naoe or Yasuke and the player then escapes their sight, guards may search in pairs and remain more suspicious, so the same distraction may not work as reliably a second time.
Some heavily guarded locations are divided into separate district arenas. In the deep-dive reproduced by WorthPlaying, Ubisoft described this separation as allowing the player to recover in one area without automatically causing every district to respond as a single arena.
Rank #3
Samurai are a tougher challenge for common stealth tactics. They can evade an assassination attempt made inside smoke, are more likely to deny assassination attempts, and may cut through bushes while searching. The assassination prompt signals the expected result: white indicates an instant kill, yellow means the target will take damage but survive, and red indicates a denied attempt.

The reveal frames the protagonists as complementary playstyles, not interchangeable stealth builds. Naoe is designed for stealth-focused infiltration; Yasuke leans toward direct combat but still has ways to approach quietly.
| Approach | Naoe | Yasuke |
|---|---|---|
| Primary role | Stealth infiltration | Direct combat |
| Scouting | Shared Observe plus Eagle Vision | Shared Observe; Eagle Vision is not assigned to him in the reveal |
| Stealth options | Smoke Bomb, Shinobi Bell, Kunai, and Shuriken; close-range stealth takedowns | Bow and a finishing blow after approaching from behind |
| Prone movement | Can go prone, roll, and crawl through some openings | Can go prone |
The distinctions above reflect Ubisoft’s November 2024 announcement, as summarized by Insider Gaming and reproduced in greater detail by WorthPlaying. They describe intended roles, not a ranking of which character is better.
