After that, check Ubisoft Connect, background apps and security-software blocks. These are general troubleshooting steps—not confirmed fixes for a specific Shadows launch bug—and the available official guidance does not establish a current Shadows-specific workaround.
1. Check that your PC meets the minimum requirements
Compare your system with the minimum requirements on the Ubisoft Store PC listing. It specifies Windows 10 or Windows 11 with DirectX 12, an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, and one of these graphics cards: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB, AMD Radeon RX 5700 8 GB, or Intel Arc A580 8 GB with Resizable BAR enabled. The listing also calls for 16 GB of dual-channel RAM and an SSD with 106 GB of storage.
The listing says Ubisoft Connect and a Ubisoft account are required to play, and Denuvo DRM is required to launch. Minimum requirements are a baseline, not a guarantee that the game will start on every qualifying PC. If your system falls short, address that gap before treating a failed launch as a software fault. An SSD upgrade is relevant only if your current drive or available capacity does not meet the listed requirement; it is not a general fix for launcher or file problems.
2. Verify the game files in the launcher where you own it
Ubisoft recommends verifying files when a PC game crashes or cannot start: “If your game crashes or is unable to start on PC, you can verify the game files in Ubisoft Connect PC and restore any missing or corrupted files.” Follow the steps for the launcher connected to your copy of the game.

Ubisoft Connect
- Open Ubisoft Connect and select Library.
- Choose Assassin’s Creed Shadows, then select the cog beside Play.
- Select Verify files and let the process finish before trying to launch again.
Steam or Epic Games Store
If you own the game through Steam or Epic, use that storefront’s own game-library verification controls. Ubisoft’s instructions direct players to verify games owned on those platforms in the respective launcher. The exact button names can vary with launcher updates; Ubisoft’s general instructions are on its game-file verification page.
3. Update Ubisoft Connect and try a clean launch
Ubisoft’s general guidance for Ubisoft Connect overlay issues recommends updating the client and disabling background applications when launching the client and game. Close apps that are not needed for the test, then try launching again. If the game starts, re-enable apps gradually to identify whether a particular background program is involved. This is a diagnostic check, not evidence that an overlay or background app is necessarily causing your problem.

4. Check whether security software blocked the launcher or game
Ubisoft advises checking that Ubisoft Connect is not blocked by security software, including a firewall or antivirus. Review your security product’s block history or notifications for Ubisoft Connect or the game, and use the vendor’s targeted allow-list instructions if you find a relevant block. Do not turn off antivirus or firewall protection wholesale; the cited Ubisoft guidance does not call for that.

5. Clear Ubisoft Connect’s cache if the issue seems client-related
Ubisoft says clearing the Connect cache can help with some technical issues. This resets launcher cache; it is not a documented Assassin’s Creed Shadows-specific repair. Follow Ubisoft’s cache instructions carefully:
- Log out of Ubisoft Connect and fully close the application.
- In File Explorer, open
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchercacheand rename thecachefolder. - Also check
%LocalAppData%Ubisoft Game Launchercacheand rename that cache folder if present. - Restart Ubisoft Connect and try the game again.
Renaming the folders preserves them for recovery; do not delete unrelated Ubisoft Game Launcher files.

6. Use administrator mode only as a one-time diagnostic
Ubisoft documents how to run a trusted Windows application with administrator rights, but the available guidance does not establish this as a Shadows launch fix. If you choose to test it, use it for one launch attempt only and only for software you trust. Administrator rights grant an application broad access to the PC, so do not leave elevated privileges enabled by default. See Ubisoft’s administrator-rights instructions.

If the preceding steps do not help and the problem appears tied to the client, consider reinstalling Ubisoft Connect. Before uninstalling, close Connect and back up local saves. Ubisoft says the uninstall process offers choices about keeping or removing installed games and local save files; read each prompt carefully. Its reinstallation instructions also include removing the cache folder, installing the latest client and restarting the PC. Preserve your save backup regardless of the options shown.

8. Contact Ubisoft Support with a useful launch report
If the game still will not start, visit the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Help hub and contact support. Include details that help distinguish a game-file, launcher, or system issue:
- The exact error text, or a note that no error appears.
- Where the launch stops—for example, before the launcher opens, after selecting Play, or during startup.
- Whether you own the game through Ubisoft Connect, Steam, or Epic.
- The game version, if visible, and any recent changes to Windows, drivers, security software, or the launcher.
- Which troubleshooting steps you tried and what happened after each one.
The consulted official material does not provide a confirmed current Shadows-specific launch bug or an error-code table, so report the behavior you see rather than assuming a particular known issue.
