Where to download Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Windows PC
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available for Windows PC through three official storefront routes:
#1 Best Overall
- Pentakill, 5 DPI Levels - Geared with 5 redefinable DPI levels (default as: 500/1000/2000/3000/4000), easy to switch between different game needs. Dedicated demand of DPI options between 500-8000 is also available to be processed by software.
- Any Button is Reassignable - 11 programmable buttons are all editable with customizable tactical keybinds in whatever game or work you are engaging. 1 rapid fire + 2 side macro buttons offer you a better gaming and working experience.
- Comfort Grip with Details - The skin-friendly frosted coating is the main comfort grip of the mouse surface, which offers you the most enjoyable fingerprint-free tactility. The left side equipped with rubber texture strengthened the friction and made the mouse easier to control.
- 5 Decent Backlit Modes - Turn the backlit on and make some kills in your gaming battlefield. The hyped dynamic RGB backlit vibe will never let you down when decorating your gaming space, it would be better with other Redragon accessories with lights on.
- Fatigue Killer with Ergonomic Design - Solid frame with a streamlined and general claw-grip design offers a satisfying and comfortable gaming experience with less fatigue even though after hours of use.
- Ubisoft Store and Ubisoft Connect: Buy or access the PC edition through Ubisoft’s ecosystem, then install it from your Ubisoft Connect library.
- Steam: Purchase or redeem the PC edition on Steam, install it from the Steam Library, and complete the required Ubisoft Account linking.
- Epic Games Store: Purchase the Windows PC edition through Epic, then install it from the Epic Games Launcher Library.
Do not use unofficial download sites, unauthorized copies, account sharing, or gray-market keys. Apart from the legal and security risks, unofficial installers may be modified, incomplete, unable to authenticate, or incompatible with current patches.
Option 1: Ubisoft Store and Ubisoft Connect
- Install the Ubisoft Connect desktop application if it is not already installed.
- Sign in with a Ubisoft Account, or create one if necessary.
- Purchase or access the Windows PC edition through the Ubisoft Store or Ubisoft+, where available for your region and plan.
- Open your Ubisoft Connect library and select Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
- Choose the install option, select an SSD destination with sufficient free space, and let the launcher download the game and its updates.
- Launch the game from Ubisoft Connect after installation. The first launch may require account authentication, updates, or additional terms acceptance.
Ubisoft Connect is a free desktop service, but it requires a Ubisoft Account. Ubisoft also notes that Connect may be required to install or launch certain games and that patches or software updates may be mandatory.
Option 2: Steam
- Install and open the Steam client.
- Sign in to the Steam account that owns Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
- Open Library, select Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and choose Install.
- Select an SSD with enough free capacity and confirm the installation.
- When prompted, link or sign in to the required Ubisoft Account.
- Launch the game from Steam after the download and any required Ubisoft authentication have completed.
The Steam listing identifies the game as single-player and requires a Ubisoft Account linked to Steam. It also lists third-party Denuvo anti-tamper and a limit of five machine activations per day. If you change hardware frequently, reinstall Windows, or encounter an activation message, avoid repeatedly retrying the launch; check which Ubisoft and Steam accounts are linked and allow the activation limit to clear.
Option 3: Epic Games Store
- Install or open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Sign in to the Epic account that owns the game.
- Open Library, select Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and click Install.
- Choose an SSD installation location with enough space for the game and future patches.
- Complete any Ubisoft Account linking or first-run authentication requested by the launcher.
- Start the game from the storefront where you purchased it, unless the launcher instructs you otherwise.
Epic lists Assassin’s Creed Shadows as a Windows 10/11 PC title with separate minimum and recommended specifications. The exact installation experience can vary depending on whether the Epic and Ubisoft accounts have already been linked.
PC installation checklist
Before starting the download, check each of the following:
- Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
- Memory: At least 16 GB of system RAM.
- Graphics API: DirectX 12.
- Storage: Approximately 115 GB for the base installation.
- Drive type: An SSD is required by the Steam listing; a mechanical hard drive is not an equivalent substitute.
- Headroom: Keep substantially more than the stated minimum free. Title Update 1.1.11 was listed as a 21.69 GB PC patch through Ubisoft’s PC distribution and 10 GB through Steam.
- Internet: Use a stable connection for the initial download, account authentication, updates, and online launcher services.
- Accounts: Have the purchasing-store account and a Ubisoft Account ready. Steam players must link the two accounts.
The listed patch size is not necessarily the amount of permanent space the update will consume. Launchers can also need temporary working space while unpacking or replacing files. A drive with only 115 GB free may therefore cause an otherwise successful installation or update to fail.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Windows PC system requirements
The official requirements describe both a baseline PC configuration and performance targets based on resolution, frame rate, visual quality, and ray tracing. Ubisoft’s figures are targets from its specification table, not independent benchmark results. Actual performance depends on the processor, graphics settings, ray tracing, upscaling mode, drivers, resolution, background applications, and the rest of the system.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBaseline requirements shown by Steam
| Component | Minimum or baseline listing | Recommended listing |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GTX 1650 4 GB, RX 5500 XT 8 GB, or Intel Arc A380 6 GB class | RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc B580 class |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | Approximately 115 GB on an SSD | Approximately 115 GB on an SSD |
Meeting the minimum graphics tier does not mean that every setting, resolution, or ray-tracing mode will run at a high frame rate. Ubisoft’s minimum performance target uses dynamic resolution and upscaling at low settings.
Ubisoft performance targets
| Target | Officially listed hardware class | Important conditions |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | GTX 1650 4 GB, RX 5500 XT 8 GB, or Arc A380 6 GB class | Low settings, dynamic resolution and upscaling, selective ray tracing |
| 1080p at 60 fps | RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT, or Arc B580 class; Core i5-11600K or Ryzen 5 5600X class processor | High settings with selective ray tracing |
| 1440p at 60 fps | RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT class | High settings with selective ray tracing |
| 4K at 60 fps | RTX 4070 Ti Super or RX 7900 XT class | High settings |
| 1440p at 60 fps | RTX 4080 class | Ultra settings with extended ray tracing |
| 4K at 60 fps | RTX 4090 class | Ultra settings with the highest listed ray-tracing target |
These are not promises that a specific graphics card will always deliver the listed frame rate. They are useful comparison points when deciding whether an upgrade is worthwhile, but they should not replace testing your own system.
PC graphics features and the best way to configure them
The Windows version includes a broad set of graphics and display options:
- Ray-traced global illumination and reflections
- An in-game benchmark
- Ultrawide-resolution support
- Uncapped frame rate
- HDR
- Dynamic resolution
- Intel XeSS 2, NVIDIA DLSS 3.7, and AMD FSR 3.1 upscaling and frame-generation technologies
- AMD Eyefinity and NVIDIA Surround support
- Detailed graphics customization
A sensible first-time graphics setup
- Choose a realistic target first. Decide whether your priority is stable 30 fps, stable 60 fps, higher resolution, or maximum visual quality.
- Run the built-in benchmark. Use it as a repeatable starting point rather than judging performance from one unusually quiet or busy location.
- Set resolution and upscaling. If native resolution is too demanding, test the available XeSS, DLSS, or FSR mode appropriate to your GPU. Upscaling can provide more room than lowering every visual setting.
- Adjust ray tracing before gutting the entire preset. Ray-traced lighting and reflections can be among the most demanding options. If the image is attractive but performance is poor, first compare selective ray tracing, extended ray tracing, and ray tracing off.
- Use dynamic resolution if consistency matters. It can trade some image sharpness for a steadier frame rate.
- Test frame generation carefully. Frame generation can alter perceived smoothness and latency. Compare it with the benchmark and actual play, especially if the base frame rate is already low.
- Enable HDR only when the display and Windows configuration support it properly. Incorrect HDR calibration can make an image look worse even when the feature is technically enabled.
Start with the official target closest to your hardware, then make one change at a time. The highest preset is not automatically the best experience, particularly at 4K or with extended ray tracing.

What is new in the latest verified update?
Title Update 1.1.11 was released on June 16, 2026 and is identified by Ubisoft as the final update. It added free story and end-game content as well as quality-of-life improvements. It was listed at 21.69 GB on PC through Ubisoft distribution and 10 GB on Steam.
Black Tides
Black Tides is a free story quest involving two elite Templars known as the Black Cross. It is not launch content. To access it, you must complete:
- Naoe and Yasuke’s main story
- A Critical Encounter
- A Puzzlement
If Black Tides does not appear, check those prerequisites before assuming the installation is broken.
Riptides and Undertow
Riptides and Undertow are two crossover Projects in the Animus HUB. They provide themed outfits, weapons, trinkets, and other rewards. Progress uses Anomalies from Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft notes that this crossover content is not available on Nintendo Switch 2; that limitation does not describe the Windows PC version.

Domains is an end-game activity that unlocks at level 30. It contains five gameplay simulations spread across ten challenge levels and rewards gear, engravings, and other Domain-exclusive progression items. Because the activity is designed around increasingly restrictive modifiers and build choices, it is worth reaching level 30 and developing complementary Naoe and Yasuke builds before focusing on it.
Horizon and additional improvements
Horizon is a new Animus Rift that requires completion of the two preceding Animus Rifts. The update also includes changes to Animus HUB access, gameplay balance adjustments, perk and engraving fixes, and numerous quest, interface, and platform-specific corrections.
Claws of Awaji
The current official game page identifies Claws of Awaji as available. It adds a new region and more than ten hours of adventure as part of the Premium Edition. That edition also includes additional gear, a mount, a trinket, and Hideout ornaments. Edition contents and access can vary by storefront and region, so check the specific PC product listing before buying.
How Naoe and Yasuke differ
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is built around two protagonists with separate statistics, skills, progression, and gear. They are complementary tools rather than two versions of the same character.

Naoe: stealth, mobility, and assassination
Naoe is the agile shinobi Assassin. Her strengths include stealth, low-noise movement, darkness, kunai, shuriken, smoke bombs, grappling-hook traversal, parkour, and Hidden Blade assassinations.
She is usually the better choice when you want to infiltrate a compound, remove isolated targets, exploit shadows, or avoid a prolonged fight. Naoe can also perform double assassinations after equipping the Tanto and unlocking the relevant skill.
When undetected, Naoe can manually grab and drag an enemy before performing either a lethal or non-lethal takedown. This gives you more control over where a body or survivor ends up and can help prevent one takedown from exposing the next target.

Yasuke: direct combat and weapon variety
Yasuke is the combat-focused samurai. His toolkit emphasizes direct attacks, blocking, parrying, and a broad arsenal that includes katana, kanabo, bows, and naginata.

His role is not simply “the stronger character”; he solves a different problem from Naoe by absorbing pressure, defending against attacks, and winning sustained fights.
Observe, Eagle Vision, and reconnaissance
Use reconnaissance before entering a guarded location instead of immediately charging toward the objective.
Observe
Both protagonists can use Observe to:
- Identify targets
- Tag enemies
- Highlight lootable stashes
- Locate collectibles
- Reveal quest information
Eagle Vision
Naoe also has Eagle Vision. It can highlight enemies behind walls and isolate relevant sounds. It is separate from Observe, so combining the two gives you a more complete picture of a location: Observe helps identify and tag useful objects and people, while Eagle Vision helps Naoe interpret threats and sounds through the environment.
A reliable approach to an enemy compound
- Stop outside the compound and use Observe.
- Tag important enemies, especially elite guards, isolated targets, and servants who may raise an alarm.
- Locate the objective, loot, exits, hiding places, and possible approach routes.
- Use Naoe’s Eagle Vision to check threats behind walls and listen for relevant sounds.
- Decide whether the location is better suited to a quiet Naoe infiltration or a Yasuke assault.
- Only then commit to the route. If the first plan fails, switch characters or disengage rather than treating detection as an automatic reason to fight everyone.
Stealth, light, and enemy alerts
Darkness is an active part of Naoe’s stealth system. At night, pockets of shadow can provide concealment both indoors and outdoors. You can also create darker routes by destroying lanterns with tools such as shuriken.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match- Crouch when approaching guards: It reduces movement noise.
- Be careful when sprinting: Sprinting in populated or guarded areas can increase the chance of detection.
- Use shinobi bells: They can distract guards and pull attention away from your route.
- Reserve kunai: They are useful for precision kills when a quiet removal is safer than a melee encounter.
- Use shuriken flexibly: They can stun or distract, and they can destroy lanterns to create cover.
- Carry smoke bombs for mistakes: Smoke can conceal an escape or create enough space to reposition.
- Look for environmental routes: Wall cracks, storage spaces, and boxes can support infiltration and hiding.
Enemy reactions are more contextual than a simple alert meter that always resets. Servants can raise alarms even though they are not conventional fighters. Samurai may cut through bushes while searching. Large fortified locations are divided into separate districts or arenas, so detection in one section does not necessarily alert the entire fortress.
That means a partial failure is not always a total failure. If one district notices you, move away, hide, or relocate before assuming every nearby enemy knows your position.
Exploration and the open world
The world includes castle towns, ports, shrines, pastoral areas, temples, castles, parkour trails, and training grounds. Weather and seasons change the appearance and behavior of locations, so the same route may not offer identical visibility or movement conditions every time.
Exploration is connected to the game’s planning systems. You are not only looking for scenery: you are identifying objectives, resources, safehouses, scouts, clues, contracts, and routes that make later missions easier.
Objective Board, Guided mode, and investigation
The Objective Board is the main interface for quests and investigations. It connects targets, opportunities, clues, locations, and quest steps so you can see how an investigation is developing.
If you prefer explicit directions, enable the Guided option. It is an accessibility feature for players who want clearer navigation. If you prefer deduction, leave the experience less directed and use clues and scouts to discover objectives more organically.

Neither approach is the universally correct one. Guided mode is useful when you want to prioritize the story or are returning after a break. The less-directed approach is better when investigating a target, exploring a province, and piecing together the board is part of the appeal.
Scouts: how to spend them without wasting them
Scouts have several jobs:
- Reveal more precise objective locations
- Gather resources for Hideout upgrades
- Reset provincial alerts
- Smuggle large resource stockpiles over time
Deploying more scouts increases the scouting radius, but a scout assigned to a stockpile remains occupied for the duration of a season. Scouts return at the end of a season, and you can pay in-game currency at a kakurega to speed up their return.
Do not spend every scout on the first available objective. Before deploying one, ask whether it will reveal a difficult target, obtain an important resource, clear a province you need to revisit, or shorten a significant part of your next mission. Low-value scouting can leave you without the capacity to gather resources or resolve a more useful objective.
Hideout priorities and kakurega safehouses
What to build first
Ubisoft’s early guidance recommends building a Study to gain more Scouts and upgrading Stables so scouts can tag resource stockpiles for later collection.
A practical opening order is:
- Establish the Hideout’s basic functionality.
- Build the Study if scouting capacity is limiting your progress.
- Improve the Stables when resource gathering and stockpile tagging become a bottleneck.
- Acquire kakurega locations as you explore.
- Keep enough scouts available for meaningful objectives instead of assigning all of them immediately.
Why kakurega matter
Kakurega are safehouses that extend the Hideout’s logistical functions into the world. They can:
- Refill rations, tools, and ammunition
- Provide access to your gear stash
- Manage contracts
- Replenish scouts
- Manage summonable allies
- Unlock safe fast-travel points outside enemy-controlled territory
Use a kakurega as a staging point before a difficult mission. Refill supplies, adjust gear, review contracts, manage available allies, and decide whether a scout is worth committing before traveling deeper into hostile territory.
Use Pathfinder in difficult terrain
Pathfinder can draw an on-ground route toward a tracked objective or a manually placed marker while you are riding a horse. It is particularly useful in mountainous areas, where a direct-looking shortcut may end at a cliff, blocked path, or inefficient climb.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Beginner tips that make the opening hours easier
- Observe before entering. Tag enemies, find objectives and loot, and identify the safest entrance and exit.
- Choose the protagonist for the problem. Use Naoe for darkness, distractions, traversal, and assassination; switch to Yasuke for blocks, parries, heavy weapons, and sustained combat.
- Destroy lights strategically. A shuriken can remove a lantern and create a darker path, but do not make noise or expose yourself before you are ready to move.
- Watch non-combatants. Servants can raise alarms, so they may be priority targets even when they are not the most dangerous fighters.
- Do not assume one alert means the whole fortress is active. Districts and arenas can limit how far detection spreads. Break line of sight and reposition.
- Build the Study early when scouting feels restrictive. More scouts improve your ability to reveal objectives and gather resources.
- Use kakurega as supply hubs. They are more than fast-travel points; they support gear, contracts, ammunition, allies, and scout management.
- Use the Objective Board to plan. Guided mode gives clearer navigation, while clues and scouts support a more investigative style.
- Run the benchmark before chasing ultra settings. Tune ray tracing and upscaling toward a stable target instead of assuming the highest preset is optimal.
- Keep storage headroom. The 115 GB base requirement does not account for the inconvenience of large patches and temporary update space.
- Complete the Black Tides prerequisites. Finish the main story, A Critical Encounter, and A Puzzlement before looking for that quest.
- Reach level 30 before planning around Domains. The activity is locked until level 30 and rewards builds designed for its challenge modifiers.
A physical companion for quests, gear, and collectibles
If you want a paper reference for completion planning, Piggyback’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows official guide is a companion to the game, not the game itself. Piggyback lists two editions: a 416-page Standard Edition softcover and a 448-page Collector’s Edition hardcover with an additional 32-page section. Both editions released March 20, 2025.
The Standard Edition is listed under ISBN 978-1-913330-16-3, while the Collector’s Edition is listed under ISBN 978-1-913330-15-6. Piggyback describes visual walkthroughs, progression and infiltration guidance, maps, item catalogs, Hideout information, and explanations of combat and stealth systems. Both editions also include a free upgrade code for the guide’s Premium interactive map, as described by the publisher.
The guide is not required to finish Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and buying it does not unlock the digital game. Check the retailer listing for the edition, current price, stock, and region before ordering.

The game will not install
- Confirm that the destination drive is an SSD.
- Check that at least 115 GB is free, then leave additional space for temporary patch files.
- Verify that Windows is 64-bit and that the PC meets the relevant graphics and RAM requirements.
- Restart the relevant launcher and retry from the Library rather than using a third-party installer.
- Check whether the storefront is still downloading or applying an update in the background.
The game asks for a Ubisoft Account
That is expected for the Steam route and may also occur through other storefronts. Sign in to the Ubisoft Account intended for this copy, then confirm that it is linked to the correct Steam or Epic account. If several accounts are involved, do not unlink accounts at random; incorrect account changes can make ownership and access harder to diagnose.
Steam reports an activation problem
The Steam listing identifies Denuvo anti-tamper and a five-machine-activation-per-day limit. Repeated launch attempts after changing hardware or reinstalling can make the situation worse. Confirm the linked accounts, stop unnecessary retries, and consult the storefront or Ubisoft support process if the activation message persists.

The game stutters or a controller is not detected
- Install the latest GPU driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel, depending on your graphics hardware.
- Check the motherboard or system manufacturer for chipset, audio, USB, and network driver updates.
- Reconnect the controller directly, test another USB port if applicable, and check the game’s controller configuration.
- Run the in-game benchmark and compare performance with ray tracing disabled or reduced.
- Test an appropriate upscaling mode and cap the frame rate if an uncapped setting produces unstable frame pacing.
- Close unnecessary background applications and check whether another program is using the CPU, GPU, disk, or network.
An optional driver-update utility such as Outbyte Driver Updater may be convenient for scanning for outdated, missing, or corrupted drivers and for offering backup and restore functions. It should not replace the hardware manufacturer’s support pages, and it is not a guaranteed fix for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, stuttering, controller detection, or frame rate. Treat it as a convenience option only after checking official drivers and the game’s own settings.
An update fails because of insufficient disk space
Free more space than the displayed patch size, restart the launcher, and retry the update. The 21.69 GB PC size listed for Title Update 1.1.11 illustrates why keeping only the base 115 GB requirement free can be impractical. If the drive is nearly full, moving unrelated games or media temporarily is safer than deleting game files manually.

Windows PC is the strongest fit for players who want adjustable resolution and frame rate, ultrawide support, HDR, uncapped performance, ray-traced lighting and reflections, a built-in benchmark, and several modern upscaling and frame-generation options. It is also the version to choose if your system can take advantage of higher resolution or more demanding ray-tracing targets.
The trade-off is a large SSD installation, substantial update headroom, launcher authentication, and hardware requirements that rise sharply for 1440p or 4K at high settings. A PC near the minimum tier should target the official 1080p/30-style configuration rather than expecting 4K or ultra ray tracing.
For gameplay, the two-character design gives the game a useful rhythm: Naoe rewards preparation, shadow management, distractions, and careful movement, while Yasuke provides a direct answer when combat is unavoidable or preferred. The Objective Board, scouts, Hideout, kakurega, changing seasons, and varied locations make exploration part of the progression system rather than a separate activity.
