If your Assetto Corsa server appears under Drive → Online → LAN but not in the public list, the server is running locally; the failure is usually public-lobby registration, router forwarding, or a firewall blocking outside traffic. If it does not appear in LAN either, start with the server process and its console log. Work through the checks below in that order, then refresh the list after each change.

First, identify which list is failing
Assetto Corsa has two different discovery paths. LAN discovery lets machines on the same local network find the host directly. Public discovery depends on the server registering with the Kunos lobby and remaining reachable from the internet. A server can therefore be healthy enough for a home-network test while still being absent from the public browser.

- Absent from LAN and Online: verify that the preset or dedicated server process actually started, then read its console and log.
- Visible in the list but impossible to join: stop changing discovery settings and check content, CSP, slots, password, ping, and authentication.
Use a second computer on the same router for the LAN test. After the server starts, wait a short time and use the refresh control in Content Manager; the listing is not always instantaneous.
What the server must expose
In the default arrangement, the host computer runs the game server and the router translates incoming internet traffic to that computer. The router rules must point to the host’s current local IP address, not merely to a device name that may later receive a different address.

Some server managers expose these as separate UDP_PORT, TCP_PORT, and HTTP_PORT settings. If you changed the defaults, forward the values configured by the server instead of blindly keeping 9600 and 8081. Do not let another server or application claim the same ports.
Step 1: Confirm that the server process is running
Start it from Content Manager
- Open the server preset in Content Manager.
- Launch the preset, then open Drive → Online → LAN.
- Wait briefly and refresh the list. A newly started server may need a few moments before it is displayed.
If the preset closes immediately, never creates a console window, or produces no listing on the same network, treat that as a startup problem rather than an internet-registration problem. Check the preset’s selected cars, track, session settings, and server installation, then launch again while watching the output.

Run the dedicated folder when Content Manager is not the host
The server can also run from its dedicated server folder. Start the server executable from that folder and keep the console visible during testing. This is useful when Content Manager is only being used as a client, or when you want the server to run independently of the launcher. The important distinction is not the launch method: both arrangements still require a running process, the configured ports, and successful lobby registration for public visibility.
Step 2: Read the console and log before changing settings
Keep the server console open while you start it and while another player searches for it. The registration result is usually more useful than the symptom shown in the browser. Look for a successful registration message, a bind failure, a port-in-use error, or an authentication problem.

The spelling of “registation” is part of the original message. This error selects the port-forwarding/firewall branch; it does not prove that every other server setting is correct. Keep reading the surrounding lines for the actual port numbers, address, or second error that may explain the failure.
When another player attempts to join, watch for a new log entry. A failed registration at startup and a join-time timeout are related but not identical: the first concerns the public lobby’s ability to validate the server, while the second can indicate that one required path remains unreachable.
Step 3: Forward the ports to the actual host PC
Find the host’s current local address
On the computer running the server, record its private IPv4 address from the operating system’s network details. The address usually looks like a local-network address and can change when the router renews its DHCP lease. The forwarding rule must target this exact computer. If the rule points to an old address, the router sends the traffic to the wrong device even though the server is still running.
For a reliable long-term setup, reserve the host’s address in the router’s DHCP settings or configure a carefully chosen static address that matches the router’s subnet. Whichever method you use, verify the address again after a reboot before blaming the game.

Create the router rules
- Sign in to the router’s administration page and open its Port Forwarding, NAT, or similarly named section.
- Create one rule for port 9600 with both TCP and UDP selected, targeting the server PC’s current local IP.
- Create a second rule for port 8081 using TCP, targeting the same host.
- Save or apply the rules, then confirm that they are enabled and still point to the correct local address.
- Restart the server after changing ports or registration settings, wait briefly, and refresh the online list.
Do not create a rule for only TCP 9600 or only UDP 9600: the default setup requires both protocols. Do not forward the ports to a second gaming PC, a console, or a machine that is merely running Content Manager while another computer hosts the server.
Check for competing port users
If the console reports that a port is already in use, close the other server or application, or assign a different server port set and update every corresponding firewall and router rule. Two server instances cannot both listen on the same address and port combination. After changing a port, restart the process so the new binding is applied.
Step 4: Permit the server through the host firewall
Port forwarding only gets traffic to the host’s network edge. Windows Firewall or another host firewall can still discard it. Add an allow rule for the server executable and permit the required traffic on the network profile used by the host. If the firewall asks for separate protocol rules, allow TCP and UDP for port 9600 and TCP for port 8081, matching the server’s configured values.
- Open the host firewall’s inbound-rule management screen.
- Allow the Assetto Corsa server executable used by your installation, rather than allowing an unrelated launcher.
- Enable the rule for the active private network profile and any other profile you intentionally use for the server.
- If you create port-specific rules instead, add TCP and UDP 9600 and TCP 8081, then save the rules.
- Restart the server and test again while watching the console.
Security software from another vendor may maintain its own network filter. An allow rule in Windows Firewall does not automatically override a separate security suite, router firewall, or managed-network policy. Temporarily narrowing the test to a trusted private network can help isolate the layer, but restore normal protection after testing and keep only the required exception.

Step 5: Verify public registration settings
Once LAN discovery works, confirm that the server is configured to register publicly rather than as a LAN-only session. The exact label varies with the server package and preset, so inspect the online/publication option in the configuration you actually launch. A server can be perfectly visible to local clients while deliberately omitted from the public lobby.

- Check that public registration is enabled in the active preset or configuration file.
- Make sure you edited the same preset that Content Manager or the dedicated folder starts; changing an unused copy has no effect.
- Restart after changing registration or port values.
- Wait briefly, refresh the online list, and compare the result with the registration lines in the console.
If the log repeats the invalid-server registration error after the rules and firewall are correct, recheck the destination IP, protocol selection, and whether the router has more than one NAT layer. A second router, an ISP gateway in front of your own router, or a managed network can prevent inbound traffic from reaching the host even when the inner router shows a saved rule. The supplied documentation establishes the forwarding requirement; the exact remedy for a second NAT device depends on that network’s layout.
Step 6: Test from the right place
Use LAN for the first confirmation
A same-network player is the fastest way to prove that the process is running and that the preset is coherent. If the server appears in LAN, note its name, track, and session details, then move to public-registration checks. LAN visibility alone does not prove that an internet player can reach the forwarded ports.

For the final test, have a player search from a different internet connection rather than relying only on a device behind the same router. Some routers do not support reliable “hairpin” access to their own public address, so a successful local test cannot substitute for an outside one. Keep the host console open and record whether the outside search produces a registration or connection line.

Do not keep changing lobby settings when the entry is already visible. The remaining failure is usually a content, capacity, or connection mismatch. Use the symptom to select the next check.

Match cars and tracks exactly
Compare the installed car and track packages on the client with the files used by the server. “The same car name” is not enough if one installation has a different update, physics data, or track version. A checksum failure points to this comparison rather than to port forwarding.

Check CSP requirements before asking the host to change networking
If the entry specifies a minimum Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) version, the joining client must meet that requirement. Update or enable the required version in the client, then try again. A CSP mismatch is a content compatibility issue, not evidence that the public list is broken.
Check capacity, password, ping, and authentication
Confirm that the selected car has an open entry slot, that the password is correct, and that the player’s ping is acceptable. Also verify any Steam-authentication requirement. These checks explain many “listed but unavailable” reports after registration and forwarding have already succeeded.
Content Manager, a dedicated folder, or managed hosting?
The launch method and the network location are separate decisions. Content Manager can launch a preset on a home PC, while a dedicated folder can run the server independently. Both still need the same reachable ports when the host is behind a home router. Managed game hosting moves the server process and network edge to a provider, so you generally configure the supplied panel rather than forwarding ports on your home router; the provider’s exact controls and requirements vary.

AssettoServer documentation confirms operation both inside Content Manager and from a dedicated folder. The choice does not remove the need to read logs: on a home host, the local console identifies registration and binding failures; on managed hosting, use the panel’s equivalent log and network settings.
A complete clean test sequence
Use this sequence when several settings have been changed and you no longer know which result is trustworthy:

- Start one known-good preset in Content Manager or one dedicated-folder process.
- Confirm the host’s current local IP address.
- Check that TCP and UDP 9600 and TCP 8081 are forwarded to that address.
- Allow the active server executable through the host firewall.
- Watch the console for startup, binding, and Kunos-lobby registration messages.
- From another device on the same network, refresh Drive → Online → LAN.
- If LAN works, verify public registration and test from a separate internet connection.
- If the server is listed but a player cannot join, use the symptom table: content checksum, CSP version, slots, password, ping, or Steam authentication.
Change one layer at a time and restart after port or registration edits. That preserves the diagnostic value of each test and prevents an old server process from continuing to use the previous configuration.
Common mistakes that make a correct fix appear broken
- Refreshing too soon: the lobby may need a short delay after startup or registration.
- Testing only from the host: the host can often see its own LAN listing even when outside traffic is blocked.
- Forwarding to the wrong machine: a changed DHCP address silently invalidates an otherwise correct rule.
- Opening only one protocol: TCP-only or UDP-only forwarding on 9600 does not match the default requirement.
- Allowing the launcher but not the server: the executable that listens for game traffic needs the firewall exception.
- Editing an unused preset: Content Manager may be launching a different configuration than the one you changed.
- Running two servers on the same ports: the second process may fail to bind or the router may send traffic to an unintended instance.
- Confusing listing with joinability: a visible entry can still reject mismatched files, an old CSP version, a full car slot, a wrong password, high ping, or failed Steam authentication.
What a successful repair looks like
The process starts and remains running, the console no longer reports an invalid-server registration error, the server appears in LAN after a short wait, and a search from outside the home network finds the public entry. A test player can then join with matching car and track files, a compatible CSP version, an available slot, the correct password, acceptable ping, and any required Steam authentication. If one of those final conditions fails, the server can be correctly registered even though that individual player still cannot enter.
