To run the free Astraeos version, set the server map to Astraeos_WP and add ActiveMapMod=988598 under [ServerSettings] in GameUserSettings.ini. Install any gameplay companions, such as Mythological Creatures, on the server and every joining client. Astraeos Structures is different: it is a client-side cosmetic mod and does not belong on the server. Start a new modded game, because CurseForge says mods cannot be added to existing games.

What Astraeos adds to ARK: Survival Ascended
Astraeos is a Greek-inspired custom map and mod by Nekatus_Modding. Its project description estimates approximately 264 km² of explorable landscape, with Greek ruins, temples, new bosses and enemies, alpha-dinosaur variants, and teleport travel between spawn areas. The 264 km² figure is the author’s approximation rather than an independent survey, so treat it as a sense of scale, not a measured benchmark.

The map itself is the foundation. It does not automatically mean that every Astraeos companion mod is active. Creatures and cosmetic structures are separate projects with separate installation rules, so decide which parts of the package your server is actually going to run.
That distinction matters when planning a cluster. A player can use the map without the Mythological Creatures add-on, while a player who wants the Structures skins can install that cosmetic project without asking the server owner to change the required-mod list. Keeping those layers separate reduces download requirements and makes it easier to diagnose a failed connection.

Choose the map delivery method before changing the server
The Astraeos project page distinguishes a free mod route from an official DLC or store version. The free route is the one documented here: it uses the mod ID in the server settings and Astraeos_WP as the map name. If your server panel offers a separate store or DLC selection, verify which edition you own and follow that edition’s configuration rather than combining both methods.
There is no single price stated for either delivery method on the project information used for this guide. Do not assume that selecting an official store edition, a premium mod, or a free mod entry has the same billing or entitlement rules. Confirm the current listing in your platform store and the current project page before purchase, and tell players which edition your server expects.
Make a backup of the current world and configuration before changing maps. A map switch can affect saves, player locations and installed content. More importantly, CurseForge’s ARK: Survival Ascended installation guidance states that “Mods cannot be added to existing games.” Plan a fresh game or save for a modded Astraeos deployment instead of expecting an unmodded save to acquire the map safely in place.
Install the free Astraeos map on a server
- Stop the server and back up its files. Save the current world and copy
GameUserSettings.inibefore editing it. Use your host’s configuration editor if it writes the same file, but check the resulting text after saving. - Select the map in the server control panel. Choose the Astraeos map entry if your provider exposes one. For the free-mod path, the map name must be
Astraeos_WP; entering a different name will not load Astraeos. - Add the free activation setting. In
GameUserSettings.ini, locate the[ServerSettings]header and add this line beneath it:

ActiveMapMod=988598- Save, then restart the server. A restart is required for the map and setting to be read. If the panel rewrites the file, confirm that the line remains under
[ServerSettings]rather than in another section. - Install the same required map mod on clients. Players should install Astraeos from the in-game Mods menu before connecting, or accept the required-mod prompt shown when joining. The client and server must agree on the required mod set.
- Create a new game on Astraeos. Do not try to retrofit the map into an existing game. After the server finishes loading, confirm that the world name and spawn choices identify Astraeos rather than the previous map.
The exact control-panel wording varies by host, but the two values are fixed for the free route: Astraeos_WP for the map and ActiveMapMod=988598 under [ServerSettings].
Why both values are necessary
The map name tells the server which world to launch; the ActiveMapMod entry enables the free Astraeos delivery. They are not interchangeable. Entering only the mod ID without selecting Astraeos_WP can leave the server launching a different map, while selecting the map without the activation entry can fail to load the free version. Keep the capitalization, underscore and numerals exactly as shown.

Control-panel and manual configuration
Some hosts expose a map drop-down, a separate active-map-mod field, or a raw INI editor. Use the host’s documented field when it exists, then inspect the generated configuration. If you edit the file manually, avoid placing ActiveMapMod=988598 in a different section or in a second profile that the running instance does not use. A restart after every configuration change makes it easier to identify which edit took effect.
Install ARK: Survival Ascended mods in the game client
CurseForge’s ASA instructions say to install mods inside ARK: Survival Ascended, not through the separate CurseForge desktop application. Use this sequence on each client:
- Open the game’s Mods list.
- Choose Browse mods.
- Search for Astraeos, Mythological Creatures or Astraeos Structures by name or by the identifiers in the table above.
- Select Install on each project you need.
- Open Mod settings and activate the installed mods for the new game.
- Join the server. If a required mod is missing, the join flow displays the requirement and prompts installation.
Installing is not the same as activating. A downloaded project that is disabled in Mod settings will not satisfy a gameplay dependency. If the game offers a required-mod prompt during the join process, accept it, wait for the download and installation to finish, then restart the game if prompted before reconnecting.
Install the map before attempting to create or join the Astraeos world. Add Mythological Creatures only when the server is configured for it. Structures can be installed independently for visual customization, including when you are playing on another map.

Add Mythological Creatures to the server
Mythological Creatures is a separate early-access project with mod ID 1122696. It adds Minotaurus, Seahorse and Cyclops; these are not part of the base Astraeos map unless you add this companion.
- Add mod
1122696to the server’s required mod list or mod-order field, using the syntax your host documents. - Restart the server so the mod is downloaded and loaded.
- Have every player install and activate the same mod in the in-game Mods list.
- Start or load the new Astraeos game after the mod is active. Check the mod’s documented spawn-entry groups if you need to control where its creatures appear.
The project page says its creatures can transfer to any map that also has Mythological Creatures installed. That means a transfer destination without mod 1122696 should not be treated as compatible. The page also documents saddles appearing in Blue, Purple and Yellow The Island drops. Because the project is marked early access, expect its content or behavior to change and keep a backup before upgrading it on a live cluster.
Planning a cluster transfer
Install the same creature mod on every destination before allowing transfers. The documented transfer condition is the presence of Mythological Creatures on the destination map, not merely the presence of Astraeos. If one cluster server runs the map alone and another runs the creature add-on, treat them as different transfer environments until both have the same mod.
Tell players that loot progression can involve The Island: the project page lists Blue, Purple and Yellow The Island drops as sources for its saddles. That is a content note, not a guarantee about every custom map’s drop tables. Test your cluster’s supply path and explain where players should look rather than promising that every Astraeos drop will contain a saddle.

Astraeos Structures has mod ID 1183089. Its author describes it as a custom cosmetic structure-skin mod for Astraeos that can also be used on any map. It is visual-only and client-sided, so it does not need to be installed in the server’s required mod list.
Install and activate it from each player’s in-game Mods list. A player who does not install the cosmetic project will not have its client-side visual assets available, while the server can continue running without the mod. Do not add it to the server merely because players want the skins; doing so turns an optional visual layer into an unnecessary server dependency.
Because the project is usable on any map, players can keep it enabled when moving between Astraeos and another supported world. The server operator should still communicate that it is optional and cosmetic. If a player reports missing skins, check that player’s installation and activation first; changing the server’s map or required gameplay list is not the remedy.
Platform and cross-play planning
CurseForge says ARK: Survival Ascended mods can be cooked for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Its platform page also describes PC-only and cross-platform server choices with Nitrado support. Those are platform capabilities, not a guarantee that every Astraeos component has identical behavior on every device. Confirm that the specific map and companion versions are offered for the platforms in your player group before committing to a cross-platform world.
Keep the required-mod list identical for all clients in a cross-play group. Cosmetic-only Structures can remain optional, but the map and Mythological Creatures are gameplay dependencies: a client missing either one should install it when the join prompt appears rather than attempting to connect with a different mod set.
Nitrado is the server provider specifically named on the ASA platform page. Hosting availability, billing, slots and configuration controls can change, so check the current Nitrado listing or your chosen host for those commercial details. No particular server size, player capacity or latency target is established for Astraeos.

Performance and hardware considerations
Nekatus_Modding warns that the large Astraeos map may cause technical issues on lower-powered Xbox Series S consoles. No independent benchmark, frame-rate test, server-capacity figure or latency measurement is established for the map, so do not promise a particular performance level.
Before opening the server to a large community, test the intended platform mix with a small group. Walk through dense ruin and temple areas, use the teleport travel between spawn areas, and observe loading, crashes and streaming delays. Record which platform and client settings reproduce a problem; that information is more useful than assuming the map-size estimate predicts a specific frame rate.
- Use a fresh save for testing so a failed map change cannot damage an established world.
- Test the base map before adding Mythological Creatures or cosmetic layers; this isolates map-loading problems from companion-mod problems.
- On Xbox Series S, give players a clear expectation that the author has reported possible technical issues on lower-powered hardware.
- Keep rollback backups of the world and configuration before changing mod versions.
- After an update, repeat a short route through temples, ruins and teleport points before declaring the server stable.
Updates, backups and operational risk
Download totals and project files are volatile. The page counts recorded on October 14, 2026 are snapshots, not guarantees about current popularity or compatibility. Check the live project pages for the current version, platform availability and update notes before scheduling a restart.
Early-access status makes Mythological Creatures the higher-risk add-on. Keep a copy of the world, configuration and mod list before updating it. Change one component at a time when possible: update the map, test; then update the creature mod, test; and leave optional Structures out of the server dependency chain. This sequence makes rollback and diagnosis simpler.

The free Astraeos route is a mod activation path, while the project page also references an official DLC or store version. The available project details do not state a universal price for either option. Budget separately for the game or store entitlement, server hosting and any optional premium content; do not infer a price from the mod ID.
CurseForge says most ARK: Survival Ascended mods will remain free while allowing professional developers and studios to publish DLC-level paid content. That policy means a project may be free, paid or subject to a platform entitlement, so verify the listing your players will use. Nitrado is the named supported hosting provider, but hosting rates and any referral terms are not fixed by the map guide.

The server starts on the old map
Stop the server and inspect the active configuration. Confirm that the map field is exactly Astraeos_WP, that ActiveMapMod=988598 is under [ServerSettings], and that the panel did not save your edit to a template or inactive profile. Restart after correcting the file. If the host offers both a map selector and a custom command-line field, use the provider’s documented priority order rather than entering conflicting map names.
Players are asked to install a mod repeatedly
Compare the server’s required list with each player’s in-game Mods list. A missing map or creature project must be installed and activated, not merely downloaded. Have the player restart the game after installation, then reconnect. Do not add Astraeos Structures to the required list to solve a gameplay-mod mismatch; Structures is client-sided and unrelated to required server dependencies.
The map loads but creatures do not appear
Check that Mythological Creatures is installed on the server, activated on the client and included in the new game rather than added to an older save. Review the project’s documented spawn-entry groups and allow time for the world to populate. The base Astraeos map does not imply that Minotaurus, Seahorse or Cyclops are enabled.
A transfer fails on another map
Verify that the destination also runs Mythological Creatures. The project page says its creatures can transfer to any map with that mod installed; a destination without it is outside that documented condition.

Cosmetic structures are missing
Install and activate Astraeos Structures on the affected client. The server does not need the mod, so changing server configuration will not make a client-side visual asset appear. Confirm that the player is using the cosmetic project on the map or platform where it is supported.
Players report crashes or severe hitching
Reproduce the problem first with the base map and then with companion mods disabled one at a time. Pay particular attention to the author’s Xbox Series S warning. There is no published controlled benchmark that can identify a universal hardware threshold, so document the device, platform and location in the map when reporting the issue instead of applying a guessed performance setting.
A panel overwrites the INI entry
Some control panels regenerate configuration files during a restart or save operation. Reopen the active file after saving and verify the header and line. If the entry disappears, use the panel’s dedicated active-map-mod field or contact the host with the exact required values rather than repeatedly editing an inactive copy.
