1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no active preorder for the Astro Bot DualSense controller as of August 10, 2026. Both versions have already launched: the original ASTRO BOT Limited Edition released on September 6, 2024, and the newer ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition released on October 30, 2025.
The Joyful Edition is the one to look for now. It launched at $84.99, and Target currently shows it in stock at that price, although availability can depend on your ZIP code. PlayStation Direct lists the same controller at $84.99 but currently marks it unavailable. Avoid assuming that an old preorder article—or a marketplace listing priced at $139.95—is a current MSRP opportunity.
Astro Bot DualSense availability in the U.S.
The following status check was made on August 10, 2026. Retail inventory can change quickly, and the final result may depend on your location, account, seller, shipping method, or store inventory. Check the condition, seller, delivery date, and total price at checkout.

| Retailer | Edition | Page status checked August 10, 2026 | Listed price | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Target | Joyful | In stock on the current product page | $84.99 | Shipping, pickup, and eligibility can vary by ZIP code. Target’s page also warns of restrictions involving PO boxes, territories, and APO/FPO addresses. |
| PlayStation Direct | Joyful | Currently unavailable | $84.99 | First-party Sony listing; worth checking again for a restock. |
| Best Buy | Joyful | Sold out | $84.99 listed | The product page remains live, but that does not mean it can currently be ordered. |
| GameStop | Joyful | Not available online | $84.99 listed | Store inventory, if any, may differ from online availability. |
| Walmart marketplace | Joyful | Third-party listing | $139.95 | The captured listing was sold and shipped by Games Mart, not Walmart itself. This is $54.96 above the Joyful Edition’s U.S. MSRP. |
| GameStop | Original 2024 edition | Not available online | $79.99 listed | Legacy listing; used or refurbished alternatives may appear separately. |
Best current buying route: If Target still allows checkout in your area, the Joyful Edition at $84.99 is a normal retail purchase—not a preorder—and is preferable to paying a substantial marketplace premium.
When did the Astro Bot controller preorder?
The preorder windows are over:
- Original ASTRO BOT Limited Edition: U.S. preorders began August 9, 2024, at 7 a.m. PT. It launched September 6, 2024, at $79.99. PlayStation announced those dates and the design in its original controller announcement.
- ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition: Preorders began September 12, 2025. It launched October 30, 2025, at $84.99. The preorder date was reported in contemporary GameSpot coverage, while the release date and price are confirmed on the current PlayStation Direct page.
Search results can be confusing because older GameSpot, TechRadar, and GamesRadar preorder guides remain online. Their retailer links and present-tense wording describe the 2025 launch period, not current stock. PlayStation’s own Astro Bot game page also displays a promotional “Pre-order now” label for the controller even though the linked product page shows a past release date and current unavailability. Treat that label as stale promotional content, not proof of an open preorder.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.

Original vs. Joyful Astro Bot DualSense
| Edition | Launch and U.S. MSRP | How to identify it | Current buying position |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASTRO BOT Limited Edition | September 6, 2024 $79.99 |
Astro’s original neutral/playful eye design on the touchpad, blue handles and buttons, and engraved sci-fi-style lines | Primarily legacy, used, refurbished, or marketplace stock |
| ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition | October 30, 2025 $84.99 |
Smiling eyes on the touchpad, with the same blue-and-white Astro Bot styling | The current edition; occasional new retail stock remains |
Both are themed versions of the mainstream DualSense Wireless Controller, not DualSense Edge controllers or performance upgrades. The documented design change in the Joyful Edition is the smiling touchpad face. The official descriptions do not establish that the eyes move or animate; do not pay a premium based on an assumption that they are active hardware. A Target buyer has described the eyes as a decal, but that is a customer observation rather than an official specification.
Which edition should you buy?
- Choose the Joyful Edition if you want a new Astro Bot controller, prefer the smiling face, or want the better chance of normal retailer returns and warranty coverage. At $84.99, it is the sensible target price.
- Choose the original edition if you specifically prefer its first-release eye design, want to collect both versions, or find a sealed, demonstrably new unit close to its $79.99 launch MSRP.
- Do not choose the original for performance. Neither edition is documented as technically superior to the other; both provide the core DualSense feature set.

What comes in the box?
The official Joyful Edition box contents list includes:
- One Astro Bot Joyful Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller
- User manual
The Astro Bot game is not included. It is a separate product. The controller also does not include a USB cable, so you will need the PS5’s cable or a compatible USB-C cable for charging and initial wired pairing.
Features: what is different, and what is not?
The Astro Bot artwork does not add new controller functions. Both editions retain the standard DualSense feature set, including:

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
- Haptic feedback
- Adaptive triggers
- Built-in microphone and controller speaker
- Motion sensor
- Touchpad
- Headset jack
- Rechargeable built-in battery
- USB-C charging and wired connection
Astro Bot does make meaningful use of those DualSense capabilities. PlayStation describes haptic effects for different terrain textures, Astro’s power-ups, and impacts, along with adaptive-trigger and other effects involving the Dual Speeder. The game’s official PlayStation page confirms vibration and trigger-effect support on PS5.
The themed shell does not create Astro Bot effects that an ordinary DualSense cannot produce. You are paying for the limited-edition appearance, not a different level of gameplay performance.
PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Apple TV compatibility
PlayStation lists support for Windows 10 64-bit or later, Windows 11, macOS Big Sur 11.3 or later, iOS 14.5 or later, iPadOS 14.5 or later, tvOS 14.5 or later, and Android 12 or later. Compatibility is not the same as full PS5 feature parity:
| Device | Important limitation |
|---|---|
| Windows PC | Features depend on the game and connection. PlayStation says haptic feedback may require USB. Adaptive triggers require supported games. The built-in microphone and speaker are available in supported Windows PC games. |
| Mac | Basic controller support is available on supported systems, but PlayStation’s compatibility table does not support haptic feedback on Mac. Microphone and speaker features are not available in the same way as on supported Windows games. The headset jack requires a wired connection. |
| iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV | Bluetooth pairing is supported on the listed operating-system versions, but haptic feedback is not compatible with mobile devices under PlayStation’s support guidance. Game support still varies. |
| Android | Android 12 or later is listed for pairing. Adaptive triggers are not compatible with Android-based mobile devices, and haptic feedback is not compatible with mobile devices under PlayStation’s support table. |
The headset jack requires a wired PC or Mac connection and is not compatible with mobile devices. For any platform other than PS5, check the individual game’s controller support rather than assuming that every DualSense feature will work wirelessly.
How to check an Astro Bot listing before you buy
- Confirm the full edition name. Look for “ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition” if you want the newer model. “ASTRO BOT Limited Edition” refers to the 2024 original.
- Match the model number or UPC. Verify
1000048839or711719021681for Joyful; verify1000045015or711719592327for the original. - Check condition. Prefer “New” if you are buying a collectible or want standard return protection. Watch for pages that switch between new, pre-owned, and refurbished options under one URL.
- Check who is selling it. On a marketplace, distinguish “sold by” from “fulfilled by.” A retailer may handle shipping while a third party owns the sale and sets the price.
- Compare with MSRP. The Joyful Edition’s U.S. launch MSRP was $84.99; the original’s was $79.99. A higher price may be a collector premium, but it is not an official price increase.
- Confirm the contents. Expect the controller and manual only. No Astro Bot game and no USB cable should be assumed.
- Review returns and warranty terms. This matters especially for used, refurbished, imported, or marketplace units. Confirm whether the box, manual, and original parts are included.
- Check the photos and authenticity. Make sure the listing shows the correct Joyful or original design and a genuine Sony controller, rather than an unofficial shell or custom modification. This is a precaution, not a claim that every marketplace listing is counterfeit.
Is the Astro Bot controller worth buying?
Buy the Joyful Edition at MSRP when:
- You want a new DualSense with Astro Bot branding.
- You prefer the smiling touchpad design.
- The price is $84.99 or close to it after considering shipping and tax.
- The unit is sold directly by a major retailer or a clearly reputable seller.
- You want ordinary retail return protection instead of collector-market uncertainty.
Buy the original when:
- You specifically prefer the original eye design.
- The unit is sealed and new from a trustworthy seller.
- The premium is acceptable because you are collecting, not seeking better gameplay.
- You want both limited editions.
Buy a standard DualSense instead when:
- You simply need a replacement or second PS5 controller.
- The Astro Bot artwork is not worth paying extra for.
- You want broader availability and easier returns.
- You will use it mainly on PC or mobile, where the themed design adds no functionality.
A standard white DualSense provides the same core haptics, adaptive triggers, microphone, motion control, touchpad, built-in battery, and USB-C charging features. Unless the Astro Bot appearance matters to you, the standard model is the more practical value choice.

PS5 setup and firmware update
Pair it with a PS5
- Connect the controller to the PS5 with a compatible USB cable.
- Press the PS button.
- After pairing, disconnect the cable if you want to play wirelessly.
- Install a controller update if the PS5 prompts you.
For Sony’s official reconnection instructions, see PlayStation’s DualSense pairing guide.
Check for controller firmware updates on PS5
- Open Settings.
- Select Accessories.
- Select Controller (General).
- Select DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software.
Updating is worthwhile before troubleshooting connection or feature problems. Sony’s accessories support page contains the current menu path and troubleshooting guidance.
Pair it with a PC or mobile device over Bluetooth
- Make sure the controller’s player indicator is off.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Hold the Create button and the PS button until the light bar flashes.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the PC, Mac, phone, tablet, or Apple TV.
- Select the DualSense controller from the available devices.
If the controller has already been paired with another device, turn that device’s Bluetooth off temporarily or use the PS5 connection first to make the controller discoverable again.

PS4 compatibility: do not assume it
The official Joyful Edition product page lists compatibility with PS5, PC, Mac, and mobile devices; it does not list direct PS4-console compatibility. Do not buy this controller expecting a verified native PS4 connection unless Sony provides platform-specific confirmation. Remote Play is a separate use case: streaming a PS4 game to a supported device does not establish that the DualSense works directly with the PS4 console.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Astro Bot DualSense controller still available to preorder?
No. The original preorder began on August 9, 2024, and the Joyful Edition preorder began on September 12, 2025. Both controllers have launched. Any current purchase is for available retail or resale stock, not a preorder. A stale promotional “Pre-order now” label on the Astro Bot game page should not be treated as current availability.

The original launched September 6, 2024, at $79.99 and has the first-release eye design on its touchpad. The Joyful Edition launched October 30, 2025, at $84.99 and has smiling eyes on the touchpad. Both have the same core DualSense feature set; the Joyful Edition is not a performance upgrade.
Does the Astro Bot DualSense include the Astro Bot game?
No. The PlayStation Direct box contents list only the controller and user manual. The Astro Bot game is sold separately.
Is a USB cable included?
No. The controller uses USB-C, but the cable is not included. You can use the PS5 console cable or buy a compatible USB-C cable for charging and initial PS5 pairing.

Does the Astro Bot controller work on PC?
Yes, PlayStation lists Windows 10 64-bit or later and Windows 11 support. However, feature support depends on the game and connection: haptic feedback may require USB, adaptive triggers require supported games, and wireless play does not guarantee full PS5-style functionality. PlayStation also lists macOS Big Sur 11.3 or later, but haptic feedback is not compatible with Mac according to its support table.
Does it work directly with a PS4?
Do not assume direct PS4-console compatibility. Sony’s current product information lists PS5, PC, Mac, and mobile platforms, not the PS4 console. Remote Play to a supported device is a different arrangement and does not prove native PS4 support.
Is the Joyful Edition a different or more powerful controller?
No. It is a themed standard DualSense Wireless Controller, not a DualSense Edge and not a documented hardware-performance upgrade. Astro Bot’s haptics, adaptive triggers, motion controls, and speaker effects are features that supported games can also use with a regular DualSense.
Is the Joyful Edition genuinely limited edition?
Sony markets it as a limited edition, but no public production quantity was verified. That means availability can become unpredictable; it does not by itself justify any particular resale price.
Should I pay more than $84.99 for the Joyful Edition?
Usually not if your goal is simply to own and use it. The $139.95 Walmart marketplace listing checked for this article was sold and shipped by a third party, not Walmart itself. Pay a premium only if you knowingly value the collector convenience or scarcity and have checked the seller, condition, warranty, and return terms.
How can I tell which Astro Bot edition I am buying?
Check the name, touchpad design, and catalog identifier. The Joyful Edition uses retailer model/vendor number 1000048839 and UPC 711719021681. The original uses vendor number 1000045015 and UPC 711719592327. These are retailer catalog identifiers rather than guaranteed universal Sony part numbers.
Do the eyes on the touchpad move or animate?
Sony’s official product description establishes the eye designs but does not promise moving or animated eyes. Treat them as a visual design detail; a Target customer review describes them as a decal, but that is user-generated information rather than an official hardware specification.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Astro Bot DualSense preorder period ended in 2025. For a current U.S. buyer, the Joyful Limited Edition at its $84.99 MSRP is the sensible choice when available from a major retailer such as Target. Buy the 2024 original only for its specific design or collector appeal, and avoid paying a large marketplace premium unless you have deliberately accepted the added cost and seller risk.
