Short answer: there is no single best game streaming platform. GeForce NOW is the strongest starting point for an existing PC library; Xbox Cloud Gaming is the best-value included catalogue for many players; PlayStation Plus Premium is for PlayStation catalogues; Shadow PC is for full Windows control; and Luna, Blacknut, Antstream, or Boosteroid win for more specific needs.
There is no universal winner. Choose GeForce NOW if you already own PC games, Xbox Cloud Gaming if you want an included catalogue, PlayStation Plus Premium for PlayStation games, Amazon Luna for Prime-friendly casual and family play, Boosteroid when it supports a PC game missing from GeForce NOW, Shadow PC when you need a complete Windows computer, Blacknut for family-oriented access, and Antstream Arcade for licensed retro games.

Quick verdict
| If you want to… | Start with… | Why | Important catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stream games you already own on Steam, Epic, GOG, or Ubisoft | GeForce NOW | It connects supported PC stores and offers the highest published performance ceiling. | You still need the correct game edition, and Performance and Ultimate plans have a 100-hour monthly allowance. |
| Play a large included catalogue | Xbox Cloud Gaming | Game Pass includes hundreds of games, with first-party releases and broad device support. | The cloud-playable catalogue varies by plan, region, platform, and time. |
| Stream PlayStation games | PlayStation Plus Premium | It is the natural choice for PlayStation catalogues, Classics, trials, PS5, and Portal streaming where available. | PC, PS5, and PS Portal streaming have different rules; DLC is not supported while streaming a title. |
| Use an existing Prime membership for casual or family games | Amazon Luna | Prime includes a rotating selection and Luna works across Fire TV, browsers, phones, tablets, and selected smart TVs. | Luna’s 2026 model no longer supports the former general store, third-party subscriptions, or Bring Your Own Library features. |
| Play a PC game that GeForce NOW does not support | Boosteroid | It supports a different selection of owned PC games and advertises no session-time limit. | Distance to the nearest data centre and ISP routing can make or break the experience. |
| Install mods, launchers, utilities, or non-game software | Shadow PC | You receive a full Windows PC rather than a fixed game catalogue. | Games that reject virtual machines or cloud PCs may not work, especially some anti-cheat-protected titles. |
| Share simple games with a household | Blacknut | It offers an included catalogue, five profiles, parental controls, cloud saves, and family features. | It is not aimed at the newest AAA releases or your personal Steam library. |
| Play classic arcade and retro games | Antstream Arcade | Its licensed catalogue includes more than 1,300 retro games, challenges, tournaments, and couch co-op. | It is a retro specialist, not a substitute for modern PC or console cloud gaming. |
First decide what kind of streaming you mean
Cloud gaming and Remote Play are related but different. In cloud gaming, the provider runs the game on its own infrastructure. Your device receives compressed video and audio, while your controller, keyboard, mouse, or touch input travels back to the server.
#1 Best Overall
- Easy Plug and play setup.
- Compatible with any game system utilizing a 9 pin sega style connection.
- Excellent playability and response time.
- Sturdy construction and design
- Four Button design improves playability over original style game controllers.
Remote Play streams from your own console or PC. You must own that hardware, leave it available, and have a suitable network connection. PlayStation’s explanation of PS5 cloud streaming and Remote Play is a useful distinction: Remote Play uses your own console, while cloud streaming uses the provider’s servers.
Neither model is the same as broadcasting gameplay to an audience. The services compared here are for playing games yourself.
The three business models
The most important question is not how many games a service advertises. It is who supplies the game.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Model | How it works | Services |
|---|---|---|
| Bring your own games | You link supported stores or accounts and stream games you own, or games included through a supported subscription. | GeForce NOW, Boosteroid |
| Included catalogue | You pay for access to a curated library. Games usually stop being playable if the subscription ends or the title leaves. | Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation Plus, Luna, Blacknut, Antstream Arcade |
| Full cloud computer | You rent a Windows PC in the cloud and install games and software yourself. | Shadow PC |
Shadow also requires you to obtain your own games. It supplies the Windows environment, not a free game library. Conversely, an Xbox Game Pass subscription includes many games, but its complete Game Pass library and its cloud-playable library are not identical.
Cloud gaming services compared
GeForce NOW: best for an existing PC library
Best for: players who already own games on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, or another supported PC storefront and want to use a Mac, Chromebook, Linux beta client, handheld, low-end PC, or TV.
GeForce NOW is the clearest bring-your-own-library option. You connect supported stores and launch supported games from those accounts; the game generally must be owned or available through a linked subscription. NVIDIA’s play and storage guide explains the relationship between ownership, supported games, cloud saves, and remote storage.
US reference pricing currently lists a free tier, Performance at about $9.99 per month, and Ultimate at about $19.99 per month. NVIDIA’s marketplace is regional, so verify the price, taxes, and billing terms at checkout. Performance and Ultimate members receive 100 hours of play per month, with up to 15 unused hours carried forward; additional hours may cost more. See NVIDIA’s current FAQ for the allowance rules.
Ultimate has the highest stated streaming ceiling in this comparison. NVIDIA lists RTX 50-series performance and, in supported combinations of plan, game, device, display, and network, features such as 4K or 5K streaming, high frame rates, HDR, and ray tracing. Those are maximum capabilities, not a guarantee that every game or endpoint will run at that quality.
NVIDIA supports Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux beta, browsers, Android, iPhone and iPad, selected televisions, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, MSI Claw, and other listed devices. Consult the current system requirements for the exact device and browser path.
The main limitations are catalogue support, store edition, publisher account, cloud-save behavior, and the monthly allowance. A game can be available on Steam but not on Epic, or available in one region and absent in another. Games without proper cloud-save support can risk losing progress when remote storage is cleared; NVIDIA’s Install-to-Play feature may provide persistent remote storage, but it does not make every game’s saves interchangeable.
Choose it over Boosteroid when the game is supported on GeForce NOW and you value higher published quality or NVIDIA features. Choose Boosteroid when the reverse is true, and test the route from your location first.

Xbox Cloud Gaming: best for an included catalogue
Best for: players who want to pay for access to a large catalogue rather than buy each PC game, particularly Xbox and Bethesda fans, people who want first-party releases, and households using browsers, phones, tablets, consoles, TVs, or selected headsets.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is part of Game Pass. The current US comparison lists Essential at $9.99 per month, Premium at $14.99, and Ultimate at $22.99. Ultimate lists 500-plus games, day-one releases, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. Microsoft’s comparison page is the authority for current plan contents; the April 2026 price update explains the recent change.
Some purchased games can also be streamed, and select free-to-play games work with a free Microsoft account. That does not turn Xbox Cloud Gaming into a general PC launcher. Streaming is generally the console version, and availability, saves, features, and controls can differ from the local PC edition.
Supported endpoints include PC browsers, phones, tablets, Xbox consoles, selected LG, Samsung, and VIDAA televisions, Fire TV, and selected Meta Quest headsets. Xbox says a compatible controller is required for most games, although select titles offer touch controls. Review the cloud-gaming page and TV guidance for device-specific restrictions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe strongest reason to choose Xbox is catalogue value. The strongest reason not to choose it is game identity: confirm that the title is in the cloud catalogue for your exact plan and region, and confirm whether you are receiving the Xbox or PC version. Game Pass cloud saves also do not automatically prove that a Steam or PC Game Pass version shares progress.
Choose it over GeForce NOW if you want to play included games and Xbox first-party releases. Choose GeForce NOW if you already own a broad PC library or need PC storefront versions, mods, or PC-specific settings.
PlayStation Plus Premium: best for PlayStation catalogues
Best for: PS5 owners, PlayStation Portal users where cloud streaming is available, and players who want the PlayStation Game Catalogue, Classics Catalogue, trials, and selected PS5 titles.
Premium is the required tier for streaming benefits. Sony’s historically published US reference price was $17.99 per month, $49.99 per quarter, or $119.99 per year, but Sony can change prices and current checkout pricing should be verified before publication or purchase.

PlayStation’s products are easy to conflate. PS Plus streaming on a PS5, the PlayStation Plus PC app, PS5 cloud streaming, PS Portal cloud streaming, and Remote Play do not have identical libraries or requirements. Sony’s PC support page, catalogue and streaming FAQ, and main PS Plus page should be checked for the target endpoint and country.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Sony advertises 4K PS5 cloud streaming on appropriate setups, while its general PS Plus guidance lists 5 Mbps as a minimum and 15 Mbps for 1080p. Treat both as requirements or ceilings for particular paths, not one universal resolution promise.
A major practical limitation is DLC: Sony does not support DLC and add-ons while streaming a title through the relevant catalogue experience. Catalogue rotation also matters. A game can disappear even though its downloaded version remains available to an owner, and the streaming version may not match the PC version.
Choose it over Xbox when the games you want are PlayStation titles or Classics. Choose Xbox for a broader multi-device subscription catalogue and first-party Xbox access; choose GeForce NOW or Shadow for PC storefront flexibility.

Amazon Luna: best for Prime, casual, and family play
Best for: Prime members who want an easy, curated selection, particularly on Fire TV or a supported smart TV, and households interested in casual or social games.
Prime includes a rotating Luna selection. Luna Premium is currently reported at $9.99 per month in US coverage, but verify the live Amazon checkout because prices, taxes, and regional plans vary.
Luna supports PC, Mac, and Chromebook browsers; Safari on iPhone and iPad; Chrome on Android; Fire TV; Fire tablets; and selected Samsung and LG televisions. Amazon maintains a compatible-device list. Luna also supports several controllers and can use a phone as a virtual controller. Amazon says its Luna Controller can connect directly to the cloud on supported devices, which may reduce an input hop; that is a feature claim, not a universal latency guarantee. See Amazon’s controller compatibility and connection options.
Luna changed materially in 2026. Amazon ended the game store, individual purchases, third-party subscriptions, and Bring Your Own Library features. The service is therefore no longer a safe recommendation for someone who wants to stream a purchased Ubisoft, EA, GOG, or other personal library. Amazon’s official policy notice also explains affected save-data handling; downloaded saves may not be compatible with another service.

Choose it over Blacknut if Prime and Fire TV integration are central. Choose Blacknut when profiles, parental controls, and a family-first catalogue matter more than Amazon ecosystem convenience.
Boosteroid: the useful PC-library alternative
Best for: players who own a supported PC game that is missing from GeForce NOW, or who need long sessions without an advertised session-time limit.
Boosteroid uses the bring-your-own-games model: you authenticate with supported PC stores and launch games you own. It is not an all-you-can-play catalogue. Confirm the exact store, game edition, publisher account, region, and nearby data centre before subscribing.
Boosteroid’s January 2026 update moved the Ultra monthly price to €12.89, with annual pricing starting from an equivalent of €7.49 per month. Prices and promotional terms vary by country; consult the pricing update and live checkout.
The service supports broad device coverage through apps and browsers, including selected smart TVs and handhelds. Provider claims about 4K/120 should be read as conditional on plan, device, game, display, and network. Boosteroid’s current network guidance lists 24 Mbps for Full HD and 64 Mbps or more for 4K, while an older support article listed 15 Mbps for 1080p/60. Use the current help material at the time you subscribe rather than treating either figure as a guarantee.
Boosteroid’s main risk is not ownership but route quality. A nearby data centre, good ISP peering, low jitter, and low packet loss are more important than the advertised catalogue size. On LG TVs, for example, Boosteroid explicitly says keyboard and mouse are not supported; a smart-TV client should not be assumed to have desktop input support. See the LG TV support notice.
Subscribe monthly first. Boosteroid can be the right answer for a specific unsupported-on-GFN title, but that conclusion should come from testing your game and route, not from a platform-wide ranking.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Shadow PC: best for a full Windows desktop
Best for: users who need mods, custom launchers, emulators, utilities, productivity software, or the freedom to install games from Steam, Epic, GOG, Battle.net, and elsewhere.
Shadow rents a complete Windows PC in the cloud. You manage the desktop and install your own software; Shadow does not provide a catalogue of included games. The US site advertises plans from $22.49 per month. Confirm the exact hardware tier, storage, taxes, and availability for your location at Shadow’s site.
Shadow recommends at least 15 Mbps download, 5 Mbps upload for basic peripherals, latency of 30 ms or less, and up to 40 Mbps for 4K. Its connection guidance explains the requirements.
The full-PC model gives you more control but also more responsibility: installations, updates, launchers, storage, crashes, and game compatibility are yours to manage. A virtual machine is not identical to a local gaming PC. Anti-cheat or DRM can block games, and Shadow maintains a current incompatibility list. Its anti-cheat guidance is essential for competitive games.
Shadow supports Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile devices, Android TV, and browser access. It is the most flexible option here, but flexibility does not mean every game works and does not include game ownership.
Blacknut: best for household profiles and simple family access
Best for: families that want an included catalogue, five profiles, parental controls, cloud saves, and no playtime limit.

Blacknut advertises more than 1,000 games and supports browsers, computers, mobile devices, and many smart TVs. Check its regional site and service explanation for current device and catalogue details.
Its trade-off is selection rather than convenience. Blacknut is less suitable for players demanding the newest AAA PC releases or wanting to connect a personal Steam library. It makes more sense when a household values separate profiles and parental controls over ownership flexibility or cutting-edge graphics.
Antstream Arcade: best for licensed retro gaming
Best for: players who specifically want classic arcade and retro games, tournaments, score challenges, and couch co-op.
Antstream includes more than 1,300 licensed retro games. Its current PC and mobile pricing page lists $3.99 monthly, $39.99 annually, and $99.99 for lifetime access; console editions and pricing differ. Check the live pricing page and platform and catalogue information.
Antstream is not competing with GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, or Shadow on modern AAA games. Its value is the specialised catalogue, challenges, tournaments, and retro multiplayer experience.
Comparison table: price, ownership, quality, and limits
| Service | Model | US/reference price | Game access | Published quality or limit | Key device coverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GeForce NOW | Bring your own games | Free; Performance about $9.99/month; Ultimate about $19.99/month | Supported games from linked PC stores and subscriptions | Up to 5K/120 in supported scenarios; 100 hours/month for Performance and Ultimate, with up to 15 hours carried forward | Windows, Mac, ChromeOS, Linux beta, browser, Android, iOS/iPadOS, selected TVs and handhelds |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | Included catalogue plus selected purchased games | Essential $9.99/month; Premium $14.99; Ultimate $22.99 | Game Pass cloud catalogue; select free-to-play and purchased games | Requirements and features vary by plan, device, region, and title | Browsers, phones, tablets, Xbox, selected LG/Samsung/VIDAA TVs, Fire TV, selected Meta Quest |
| PlayStation Plus Premium | Included catalogue | Historical US reference: $17.99/month, $49.99/quarter, $119.99/year | Game Catalogue, Classics, trials, and selected PS5 streaming | 5 Mbps minimum; Sony lists 15 Mbps for 1080p; 4K is setup-dependent | PS4/PS5, PC app, and PS Portal where cloud streaming is available |
| Amazon Luna | Curated included catalogue | Prime includes rotating games; Premium reported at $9.99/month in US coverage | Current subscription catalogue; no general BYOL or former game stores | Minimum 10 Mbps; up to 10 GB/hour at 1080p | Browsers, Fire TV, Fire tablets, phones/tablets, selected Samsung/LG TVs |
| Boosteroid | Bring your own games | Ultra €12.89/month; annual from €7.49/month equivalent | Supported games from linked PC stores | No advertised session-time limit; 4K claims depend on endpoint and route | Apps and browsers across PC, mobile, TV, and handheld categories |
| Shadow PC | Full Windows cloud PC | From $22.49/month in US coverage | Install your own games and software | 15 Mbps recommended minimum; 30 ms or less latency recommended; up to 40 Mbps for 4K | Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile, Android TV, browser |
| Blacknut | Included catalogue | Regional pricing | 1,000-plus curated games | No playtime limit; five profiles | Browsers, computers, mobile, many smart TVs |
| Antstream Arcade | Included retro catalogue | $3.99/month; $39.99/year; $99.99 lifetime on PC/mobile pricing page | 1,300-plus licensed retro games | Retro-focused; console pricing differs | PC, mobile, consoles, and listed compatible platforms |
Do not compare the numbers in the table as if they measured the same thing. GeForce NOW and Boosteroid count supported games that you may own. Xbox, PlayStation, Luna, Blacknut, and Antstream count included catalogue access. Shadow supplies a computer rather than a fixed catalogue.
What devices and controllers really work?
Cloud gaming is not device-agnostic. The endpoint affects image quality, input support, audio, browser behavior, and available features.
- GeForce NOW: Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux beta, browsers, Android, iOS/iPadOS, selected TVs, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, MSI Claw, and other listed devices. On iPhone and iPad, NVIDIA says keyboard and mouse are mainly useful for menus and login; a controller is required for gameplay. See the system requirements.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming: browsers, mobile devices, Xbox consoles, selected LG, Samsung, and VIDAA TVs, Fire TV, and selected Meta Quest headsets. Most games need a compatible controller, with touch controls available for select titles.
- Luna: PC and Mac browsers, Chromebook, iPhone and iPad Safari, Android Chrome, Fire TV, Fire tablets, and selected Samsung and LG TVs. It supports several controllers and a phone-as-controller mode.
- PlayStation Plus: PS4 and PS5, the Windows PC app, and PS Portal cloud streaming where supported. These paths do not have identical catalogues or features.
- Shadow PC: Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile, Android TV, and browser access.
- Blacknut: browsers, computers, mobile devices, and many smart TVs.
TV apps are often more restrictive than desktop clients. A TV may support gamepads but not keyboard and mouse, or offer fewer audio outputs and a different maximum resolution. Boosteroid’s LG TV support notice, for example, explicitly excludes keyboard and mouse. Always check the device-specific support page instead of assuming that a service’s browser support covers every TV browser.
Internet requirements: speed is only the beginning
The game runs remotely, but the stream still needs a stable path between you and the provider. ITU-T’s cloud-gaming quality model treats quality as a combination of latency, packet loss, frame rate, resolution, and bitrate—not download speed alone.
| Service | Published requirement or guidance |
|---|---|
| GeForce NOW | 15 Mbps for 720p/60; 25 Mbps for 1080p/60; 35 Mbps for QHD/120; 45 Mbps for 4K/120; 65 Mbps for 5K/120. NVIDIA requires less than 80 ms latency to a data centre and recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | At least 10 Mbps down; some devices need 20 Mbps for best quality. Microsoft recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. |
| PlayStation Plus | 5 Mbps minimum; Sony lists 15 Mbps for 1080p. |
| Amazon Luna | At least 10 Mbps. Amazon estimates up to 10 GB per hour at 1080p. |
| Boosteroid | Published guidance differs: an older article listed 15 Mbps for 1080p/60, while a 2025 article lists 24 Mbps for Full HD and 64 Mbps or more for 4K. Use the current help page at publication. |
| Shadow PC | At least 15 Mbps download, 5 Mbps upload for basic peripherals, 30 ms or less latency, and up to 40 Mbps for 4K. |
Jitter is variation in packet arrival time. Packet loss forces retransmission or causes missing data. Bufferbloat can make the connection feel fine during a speed test but sluggish when another device uploads or downloads. Wi-Fi interference, ISP peering, the route to the data centre, controller Bluetooth delay, and television image processing can all add latency. Research from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and USENIX NSDI illustrates why jitter and packet loss deserve separate attention.
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor story-driven games, turn-based strategy, slower RPGs, and many single-player adventures, modest streaming delay may be acceptable. Competitive shooters, fighting games, rhythm games, and racing games are less forgiving. There is no honest platform-wide latency winner without controlled testing that specifies location, ISP, data centre, game, device, controller, display, resolution, and time of day.
Resolution and frame rate: understand the ceiling
When a provider says 4K or 120 FPS, distinguish five separate things:
- What the server hardware can render.
- What your subscription tier permits.
- What the game actually renders.
- What the app, browser, and device can decode and output.
- What your network and display can sustain.
GeForce NOW Ultimate’s high-end features are conditional on all five. Xbox Cloud Gaming is not equivalent to running a local Xbox Series X on every endpoint; Microsoft warns that some TV setups have limitations involving resolution, audio, saves, purchases, and accessories. Sony advertises 4K PS5 cloud streaming on appropriate setups, while its general guidance specifies 15 Mbps for 1080p. Boosteroid’s 4K/120 statements should likewise be attributed to Boosteroid and qualified by plan, game, device, display, and network.
A 120 Hz television cannot create a 120 FPS stream, and a game rendered at 30 FPS cannot become a genuine 120 FPS game merely because the client is connected to a 120 Hz display. Check the actual stream statistics where the client exposes them.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Game-specific compatibility: check before you pay
Search the exact game, not just the franchise. Confirm all of the following:
- Title and edition, including remaster, deluxe, or regional version.
- Platform version: PC, Xbox, PlayStation, or mobile.
- Store: Steam, Epic, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, Xbox, or a publisher launcher.
- DLC and expansion ownership or catalogue inclusion.
- Multiplayer requirements, anti-cheat, DRM, and third-party account requirements.
- Your country, account region, and the provider’s nearest data centre.
That checklist prevents the most common false assumption: a game can be available on one service, in one edition, while absent from another service or region. Catalogue counts do not answer the compatibility question.
Example: you own Elden Ring on Steam
Start with GeForce NOW or Boosteroid and search for the Steam edition. Confirm that your edition, DLC, publisher account, cloud saves, and multiplayer protections are supported. Xbox Cloud Gaming is relevant only if the version you want is available through its Xbox catalogue or supported purchased-game streaming; it is not automatically a way to stream your Steam copy. Shadow is an option if you need the full Windows installation, subject to hardware, anti-cheat, and DRM compatibility.
Example: you want Xbox first-party games without buying an Xbox
Start with Game Pass and confirm the title is cloud-playable under the exact plan in your country. This is where Xbox Cloud Gaming’s included catalogue is more useful than GeForce NOW, which generally requires you to own a supported PC-store copy.
Example: you want PlayStation games on a Portal
Check that PS Portal cloud streaming is available in your region and that the game belongs to the supported PlayStation Plus Premium catalogue. Do not confuse this with Remote Play: Remote Play requires your own PS5, while cloud streaming runs on Sony’s infrastructure.
Example: you need mods or custom launchers
Shadow PC is the natural starting point because it gives you a Windows desktop. GeForce NOW and Boosteroid expose only supported games and permitted launch paths. Xbox, PlayStation, Luna, Blacknut, and Antstream are curated services and should not be treated as mod-friendly general PCs.

- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Example: you want to play on an iPhone
Check browser or app availability, controller support, and the game’s touch-control status. Xbox supports touch controls for select titles. GeForce NOW says a controller is required for gameplay on iPhone and iPad even though keyboard and mouse may help with menus and login. Luna supports iPhone and iPad through Safari. A phone controller clip, wired connection, or supported Bluetooth controller may improve comfort and responsiveness.
Example: you need family couch co-op
Begin with Blacknut, Luna, or Antstream depending on the desired catalogue. Verify the number of simultaneous controllers on the exact TV or device, because support can differ between a desktop app and a smart-TV client. Blacknut’s five profiles and parental controls are particularly useful for households; Antstream is the stronger fit for retro couch co-op and challenges.

Be cautious with GeForce NOW Performance and Ultimate. Their current monthly allowance is 100 hours, with limited carry-forward. Boosteroid advertises no session-time limit, while Blacknut advertises no playtime limit; neither statement means unlimited catalogue access or unlimited quality. Check each provider’s current fair-use and plan terms.
Saves, DLC, and account portability
Cloud gaming does not create one universal save system.
- GeForce NOW: cloud-save behavior depends on the game and storefront. Games without cloud-save support can risk losing progress when remote storage is removed. Install-to-Play may help retain remote installs and saves, but verify the individual game.
- Xbox: Xbox cloud saves work within Microsoft’s supported ecosystem, but they do not prove that Steam, PC Game Pass, or another platform edition shares progress.
- PlayStation Plus: streaming a title does not support DLC and add-ons in the relevant experience. Catalogue removal and platform-specific save rules also matter.
- Luna: Amazon’s 2026 change notice allows affected users to download certain save data, but compatibility with another service is not guaranteed.
- Shadow: saves are managed inside the Windows environment and by the game or launcher you install.
- Blacknut and Antstream: saves and profile data belong to the service’s catalogue ecosystem; do not assume they transfer to a purchased console or PC edition.
Before abandoning a service, identify the game’s save location and export or synchronise it where the provider permits. Never assume that two versions of the same game share saves merely because they use the same title.
How to test a service before buying annually
A monthly test is worth more than a generic review, especially when data-centre distance and ISP routing determine the result.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Confirm that the service supports your country and intended device. Use the provider’s current eligibility and system-requirements pages.
- Search for the exact game, edition, store, region, and DLC.
- Confirm required publisher accounts, multiplayer rules, anti-cheat, and cloud-save support.
- Test the actual endpoint: target TV, phone, Mac, Chromebook, handheld, or browser, using the intended controller.
- Run the same game and display settings on every service. Compare Ethernet and 5 GHz Wi-Fi separately.
- Record queue time, launch time, resolution, stream frame rate, compression, controller response, audio delay, stutter, freezes, bitrate drops, save synchronisation, suspend/resume behavior, data used per hour, and whether the game version differs.
- Repeat at different times, especially during evening congestion. A service can perform well off-peak and degrade later.
- Keep the first subscription monthly. Move to annual billing only after the actual game, endpoint, network, and save behavior meet your needs.
| Test item | Result to record |
|---|---|
| Game and edition | Store, platform version, DLC, publisher account |

Troubleshooting and recovery
- Stutter or pixelation: pause downloads, stop VPN use, switch to Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, lower resolution or bitrate, and test again at another time.
- High input delay: check jitter and packet loss, use a wired controller where possible, disable television motion processing, and test the provider’s nearest data centre or network route.
- The game is missing: verify the store edition, platform version, account region, and game status. Do not assume another edition will work.
- Login loop: try the native app where available, update the browser, allow required cookies and permissions, and verify the linked publisher account.
- Controller not detected: pair it before launching, try USB, check the endpoint’s supported-controller list, and remember that TV support may be narrower than PC support.
- Save missing: check the game’s own cloud-save system, avoid deleting the current session, and confirm that streamed and downloaded versions use the same account and edition.
- Service outage: check the provider’s official status page before changing local settings.
Common misconceptions
“Cloud gaming means every game is included.”
Only catalogue subscriptions work that way, and even those rotate titles. GeForce NOW, Boosteroid, and Shadow generally require you to own or obtain the game. Catalogue availability also varies by region and plan.
“A 4K label guarantees 4K.”
4K may require a particular tier, native app, device, game, display, and stable network. The server’s maximum capability is not the same as the stream your endpoint receives.
“My 500 Mbps connection guarantees low latency.”
It does not. Latency, jitter, packet loss, bufferbloat, Wi-Fi interference, and ISP routing can dominate the experience.
“Cloud saves are universal.”
They are not. Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and publisher accounts may use different save systems, and cross-save requires game-specific support.

“A smart-TV app supports every controller and accessory.”
TV clients often have fewer peripherals, audio options, and settings than desktop clients. Confirm the exact TV model and input method.
“Shadow runs every PC game.”
Shadow’s Windows environment is flexible, but anti-cheat, DRM, virtual-machine detection, and other restrictions block or partially limit some games.
“Luna still streams my purchased Ubisoft or GOG games.”
That was part of Luna’s former model. Amazon’s 2026 policy change ended the general game store, third-party subscriptions, and Bring Your Own Library access.
Which service should you choose?
Make the decision in this order:
- Identify the game and edition. If the title is not available in the correct store, platform version, and region, the service is eliminated.
- Choose the access model. Pick an included catalogue if you want discovery and predictable access, a bring-your-own service if you already own games, or Shadow if you need a full PC.
- Check the endpoint. A service that works on your laptop may have fewer features on your TV, phone, or handheld.
- Check the network path. Use the real device and controller, then test at peak time.
- Check the economics. Include game purchases, subscription tiers, 100-hour allowances, extra-hour fees, annual commitments, taxes, and mobile data costs.
For most existing PC libraries, begin with GeForce NOW and use Boosteroid as the targeted alternative when a specific game is absent. For included games, begin with Xbox Cloud Gaming unless the catalogue you want is specifically PlayStation, retro, or family-focused. Choose Shadow for control, not catalogue value. Choose Luna, Blacknut, or Antstream only when their particular ecosystem matches the games and household use you actually have.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do cloud gaming services include the games?
GeForce NOW and Boosteroid generally require you to own the game through a supported PC store or access it through a supported subscription. Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation Plus, Luna, Blacknut, and Antstream provide curated included catalogues, while Shadow PC provides a Windows computer but no included games.
What is the best cloud gaming service for games I already own?
For a Steam, Epic, GOG, or Ubisoft library, start with GeForce NOW and check the exact game edition. Boosteroid is a useful alternative when the game is supported there but absent from GeForce NOW. Shadow PC is more flexible because you can install software, but anti-cheat and virtual-machine restrictions still apply.
Does cloud gaming really support 4K and 120 FPS?
Check the exact endpoint, plan, game, display, and country. GeForce NOW lists up to 5K/120 FPS in supported scenarios, but that does not guarantee every game or device will deliver it. Xbox, PlayStation, and Boosteroid also have device- and game-specific limits.
How fast does my internet need to be for cloud gaming?
Yes, but requirements vary. Published minimums range from 5 Mbps for PlayStation Plus to 10 Mbps for Xbox and Luna, while higher GeForce NOW and Shadow modes need substantially more bandwidth. Latency, jitter, packet loss, Wi-Fi interference, and ISP routing can matter more than download speed.
Can Amazon Luna stream my purchased PC games?
Luna’s 2026 policy change ended its former general game store, third-party subscriptions, and Bring Your Own Library features. It is now best treated as a curated subscription service, not a way to stream a purchased Ubisoft, EA, GOG, or other personal library.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: existing PC library means GeForce NOW; included modern catalogue means Xbox Cloud Gaming; PlayStation games mean PS Plus Premium; Prime and casual family play mean Luna; a missing PC title may justify Boosteroid; mods and a full desktop mean Shadow PC; family profiles mean Blacknut; retro means Antstream Arcade. Test monthly on your real device and network before committing annually.
