ASTRONEER: Megatech launched on November 20, 2025 as a $9.99 USD paid DLC alongside a free update. The DLC adds the Orbital Platform, Biodome, and Museum; the free update adds the Distribution Launch System and Intermodal Terminal, along with other items and improvements. Nintendo Switch received Megatech later, on February 25, 2026.
What is ASTRONEER: Megatech?
Megatech is ASTRONEER’s second major DLC, centered on building large Megastructures with new and existing technology. It launched November 20, 2025. System Era said the DLC works with existing saves, so a fresh game is not required to access it. Most of its content, however, is gated behind technology-tree progression and missions. System Era’s release announcement and FAQ explain the release and progression requirements.
What does the paid DLC include?
Buying Megatech unlocks three Megastructures, each with a different purpose:
- Orbital Platform: A large ring-shaped building area placed in orbit around a planet, with a reshapeable asteroid at its center.
- Biodome: A structure for growing and harvesting plants, with automation and upgrade features.
- Museum: A collection- and display-focused Megastructure.
System Era details these structures in the Megatech launch patch notes.

- Intermodal Terminal: A transport facility that transfers cargo from trains to automated shuttles, enabling resources to move between planets through linked rail systems.
The update also includes other free items and improvements. The official PlayStation listing names icon signs, elevated walkways, and an automatic tether-dropping item among its free items. See the patch notes and PlayStation Store listing for their descriptions.

Will existing game save files be compatible?
Yes. System Era said existing saves are compatible and that players do not need a new save to access Megatech. The developer also said most DLC content requires substantial technology-tree progress and missions, so compatibility does not mean every Megastructure is available immediately. See the release FAQ for the developer’s explanation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How far into the game should I progress before starting the DLC?
There is no separate new-game requirement or single progress threshold specified in the developer FAQ. You can keep playing an existing save, but expect to advance through the technology tree and complete missions to reach most Megatech content. The FAQ does not give a specific hour count or exact unlock point. System Era’s FAQ describes the progression gating.

Are the platforms up to date, and are updates still planned?
System Era’s troubleshooting report, last updated February 25, 2026, said platform versions had returned to parity at that point. The report directed players to the Live Bug Tracker for ongoing issue-specific tracking. In a May 20, 2026 developer update, System Era said monthly updates would continue through at least the end of 2026; that was a roadmap commitment at the time, not a promise that every known issue would be fixed. Read the troubleshooting report and May 2026 developer update for those dated status statements.
