The original ASUS ROG NUC was listed in the US from $1,629 in March 2024, for a Core Ultra 7 155H system with an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU. The higher-end Core Ultra 9/RTX 4070 Laptop GPU configuration was listed at $2,199. Those are historical prices for the 2024 model—not current prices for the newer ROG NUC (2025), which ASUS lists from $2,799 on its US site.
What the original US prices included
The March 24, 2024 pricing report concerned ASUS’s first ROG-branded NUC gaming mini PC, following its CES 2024 unveiling. The two listed prices applied to distinct configurations; $1,629 was the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU model, not the price of the RTX 4070 version. The report did not give a confirmed US shipping date, so a listed price should not be read as proof that units were immediately available.
| Original 2024 configuration | Entry model | Higher-end model |
|---|---|---|
| US listed price | $1,629 | $2,199 |
| Processor | Intel Core Ultra 7 155H | Intel Core Ultra 9 185H |
| Graphics | Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR6 | Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR6 |
| GPU power specification | 110W GPU plus up to 25W Dynamic Boost | 115W GPU plus up to 25W Dynamic Boost |
| Memory in ASUS technical product sheet | 16GB (2 × 8GB) | 32GB (2 × 16GB) |

| Operating system in ASUS technical product sheet | Windows 11 Home | Windows 11 Home |
Prices are from Gizmochina’s March 24, 2024 report, which cited ASUS’s US listing. Hardware and bundled memory and storage are based on ASUS’s ROG NUC specifications and technical product sheet. ASUS notes that configurations can vary by region and SKU, so these bundles describe the documented launch configurations rather than every retail listing.
What the compact design offers
The original system measures 180 × 270 × 50 mm and occupies less than 2.5 liters, according to ASUS’s product page. It is a performance-oriented mini PC, not an ultra-low-power office machine: it combines a discrete laptop-class GPU with cooling hardware and an external power supply.

Ports and displays
- HDMI 2.1 and two DisplayPort 1.4a connections.
- Thunderbolt 4/USB4 Type-C with DisplayPort support.
- Four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and two rear USB 2.0 ports.
- 2.5Gb Ethernet, an SD Express 8.0 card reader, Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
ASUS says the original supports up to four 4K displays. The connection selection makes it practical as a compact gaming or multi-display workstation, though actual display arrangements depend on the ports and setup being used.
Memory and storage upgrades
ASUS lists two SO-DIMM slots, support validated up to 64GB of system memory with a thermal-limitation caveat, and up to three M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 SSD slots; the exact storage layout may vary by configuration. Its tool-less chassis makes access easier than on many gaming laptops. The CPU and discrete GPU, however, are not conventional desktop components that can be swapped for newer parts.

What buyers give up for the small size
- Desktop-card comparisons do not apply directly. Both graphics options are explicitly Laptop GPUs. Their performance is shaped by laptop-class power and thermal limits, so an RTX 4060 or 4070 name alone does not establish equivalence to a desktop card with the same number.
- Limited long-term graphics upgrades. Memory and SSDs can be changed, but the main CPU/GPU platform is not a modular desktop build.
- A substantial compact-PC premium. The $1,629 launch configuration included Windows, memory and storage, but larger gaming desktops can offer more conventional parts and upgrade paths. The value depends on how much the small footprint and ready-made setup matter to you.
- Modest starting storage. The documented 512GB SSD in the entry configuration may fill quickly with a large game library, although the system offers internal M.2 expansion.
The original model is most relevant to buyers who prioritize desk space, a tidy living-room setup, or a compact ready-to-use Windows gaming PC with several display outputs. It is a weaker fit for shoppers focused on maximum frames per dollar or on replacing the graphics card later.
Is $1,629 a current ROG NUC price?
No. The $1,629 and $2,199 figures refer to the original 2024 US listings. ASUS’s product pages distinguish that model from the newer ROG NUC (2025); the old launch price does not establish what a remaining-stock or third-party unit should cost today. Check the exact SKU, seller, warranty and stock status before buying an older listing. The March 2024 report also did not specify a firm US availability date.

How the ROG NUC (2025) differs
ASUS lists the separate ROG NUC (2025) on its US site from $2,799. That displayed starting price is substantially higher than the original model’s 2024 entry price and applies to a newer generation, not a repricing of the same configuration. ASUS’s US product page lists Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX and Core Ultra 9 275HX processor options, RTX 5060, 5070, 5070 Ti and 5080 Laptop GPU options, up to 96GB of DDR5-6400 memory, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and 2.5Gb Ethernet. It also describes a tool-less chassis.
ASUS’s current US page says the 2025 system supports up to five 4K displays; other ASUS product content gives a four-display figure, so the count may depend on the page or configuration. Verify the specific SKU if multi-display support is a deciding factor. The newer GPU choices are still Laptop GPUs, and the system remains a premium compact alternative rather than a conventional desktop tower.

Who should consider an original ROG NUC?
The original’s $1,629 starting price was a real listed US price for a specific 2024 configuration, but it is not a reliable current price or a universal value benchmark. Consider an original unit only if its compact format is the priority and a live listing has an acceptable price, stock status and warranty. For upgradeability or performance per dollar, a conventional Mini-ITX or larger desktop is a more natural comparison; a gaming laptop may make more sense if you also need a built-in screen, keyboard and battery.
