The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDMR is primarily a connectivity and OLED-protection refresh, not a new display-performance generation. It keeps the original PG32UCDM’s 31.5-inch-class 4K QD-OLED panel, 240Hz refresh rate and advertised 0.03ms GTG response time, but adds full-bandwidth DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20, OLED Care Pro and a Neo Proximity Sensor.
That makes it a strong choice for a new buyer with a DisplayPort 2.1 graphics card. For an existing PG32UCDM owner, however, the upgrade is difficult to justify unless avoiding Display Stream Compression or adding automated OLED protection is particularly important.

What is the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDMR?
Announced by Asus on January 4, 2026, the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDMR is a 31.5-inch-class 4K gaming monitor using a QD-OLED panel. Its headline specifications remain familiar:
- 3840×2160 resolution
- 240Hz refresh rate
- Advertised 0.03ms GTG response time
- 99% DCI-P3 coverage
- G-SYNC compatibility
- HDMI 2.1

The three meaningful upgrades
1. DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20
The PG32UCDMR’s biggest practical upgrade is DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20. Its up-to-80Gbps link gives compatible graphics cards substantially more bandwidth for demanding modes such as 4K at 240Hz.
The original PG32UCDM uses DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC to achieve its maximum resolution and refresh rate. DSC compresses the video signal before transmission. In normal gaming use, DSC is generally considered visually transparent, so its presence does not automatically mean that the older monitor looks worse.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →DisplayPort 2.1 is therefore best understood as a forward-compatibility and signal-path upgrade, rather than a direct image-quality or speed upgrade. It does not raise the PG32UCDMR above 240Hz, improve its underlying OLED response time or make a graphics card render more frames.
The benefit is greatest for owners of newer high-end GPUs with DisplayPort 2.1 outputs who want to run 4K/240Hz without relying on DSC. The graphics card, cable, monitor firmware, operating system and driver must all support the desired mode. An older cable can also become the bottleneck, so use a properly certified cable suitable for the required DisplayPort bandwidth.

- DisplayWidget Center Software: Allows users to easily access OLED Care functions and adjust monitor settings using a mouse
2. OLED Care Pro
OLED Care Pro is Asus’s newer panel-maintenance suite. It is designed to reduce the conditions that can contribute to image retention and burn-in by managing panel-care functions and encouraging safer usage patterns.
It is an ownership feature, not a gaming-performance feature. It will not make a game run faster, increase refresh rate or guarantee that burn-in cannot occur. Owners should still use screen savers and display sleep timers, allow pixel-refresh routines to run, and avoid disabling protection features without a specific reason.
3. Neo Proximity Sensor
The Neo Proximity Sensor detects whether someone is sitting in front of the display. When the user leaves, it can dim or turn off the monitor to reduce the time that static desktop elements, browser windows or paused games remain on-screen.
This is especially useful when the monitor also serves as a productivity display or when users regularly step away without manually locking the computer. Its behavior can depend on desk position, viewing angle, lighting and movement, so it should be treated as a convenience layer rather than a guarantee against OLED wear.

Is the PG32UCDMR brighter or better-looking?
There is not enough evidence to describe the PG32UCDMR as a major brightness or image-quality upgrade over the original PG32UCDM. Asus presents the monitor around connectivity and protection features rather than a fundamentally brighter panel, higher refresh rate or new OLED generation.

Both displays offer the same core 4K/240Hz QD-OLED experience, 99% DCI-P3 coverage, HDMI 2.1 and 90W USB-C Power Delivery. Do not assume that the “R” model has better HDR brightness, reduced VRR flicker or improved text clarity unless a test of the exact model establishes it.
Likewise, DisplayPort 2.1 should not be marketed as a guaranteed visual upgrade. It can remove the need for DSC on compatible systems, but the original PG32UCDM can already deliver 4K/240Hz through its DSC workflow.
PG32UCDMR versus PG32UCDM Gen 3
The model names are easy to confuse. The PG32UCDMR is not the same monitor as the PG32UCDM Gen 3, also known as the PG32UCDM3.
The PG32UCDMR is a conventional QD-OLED refresh focused on DisplayPort 2.1 and OLED-care automation. The PG32UCDM Gen 3 adds a newer Tandem QD-OLED panel and BlackShield film, along with DisplayHDR True Black 500, DisplayPort 2.1a, OLED Care Pro and the Neo Proximity Sensor.

- Convenient Monitor Control: DisplayWidget Center allows users to access OLED Care functions, as well as adjust monitor settings with a mouse
Buyers looking for a more substantial panel-generation change should compare the Gen 3 model rather than assuming the PG32UCDMR is the newer-panel option. It is also separate from Asus’s PG32UCWM, which belongs to a different Tandem RGB OLED product family.
Who should buy the PG32UCDMR?
It makes sense for new buyers who:
- Want a 4K/240Hz QD-OLED gaming monitor.
- Have a graphics card with DisplayPort 2.1 output.
- Want to avoid relying on DSC where their hardware supports the necessary mode.
- Use the display for long productivity sessions and value automated OLED protection.
- Find it close in price to the original PG32UCDM.
It is a particularly good fit for DisplayPort 2.1 GPU owners
DisplayPort 2.1 matters most when the rest of the system can use it. A compatible GPU and suitable cable can take advantage of the PG32UCDMR’s higher-bandwidth connection. However, the port does not guarantee 4K/240Hz: the GPU must support the output, and it must also be powerful enough to render games at the desired frame rate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should keep the original PG32UCDM?
Existing PG32UCDM owners should probably keep their monitor if they already run 4K/240Hz successfully through DSC, use a GPU limited to DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1, and do not leave static content on-screen for long periods.
The case for upgrading is also weak if the PG32UCDMR costs substantially more. The original model already has a 4K/240Hz QD-OLED panel, HDMI 2.1, 90W USB-C Power Delivery and the same advertised response time. Selling the old monitor at a favorable price can change the calculation, but a large premium buys mainly connectivity flexibility and protection automation.

Price and availability
Pricing is region- and date-dependent. When the US Asus store page was crawled, it showed a $1,299 reference price and a $899 promotional price. That promotion should not be treated as a permanent MSRP; check the current regional product page and authorized retailers before buying.
The best value comparison is the current street price, not just Asus’s list price. A small difference between the PG32UCDMR and discounted PG32UCDM favors the newer model, especially for DisplayPort 2.1 GPU owners. A large premium favors the original display unless the newer connection or OLED-care features solve a specific problem.
Warranty terms, regional availability and burn-in coverage can differ by country and may change. Check the local policy rather than assuming that one region’s OLED warranty applies everywhere.

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDMR fixes the original PG32UCDM’s biggest forward-compatibility limitation: its reliance on DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC. OLED Care Pro and the Neo Proximity Sensor are useful additions for long-term OLED ownership, but they do not increase gaming performance.
For a new buyer with a DisplayPort 2.1 GPU, the PG32UCDMR is the more future-ready choice. For an existing PG32UCDM owner who is satisfied with 4K/240Hz through DSC, it is a modest refresh rather than a must-have upgrade. If the priority is a newer panel and a more meaningful generational change, the PG32UCDM Gen 3 is the model to investigate.
