The AYN Odin2 Portal is a high-end Android gaming handheld built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a 7-inch 1080p OLED touchscreen, active cooling and Hall-effect sticks. It launched through Indiegogo on October 23, 2024, with three RAM and storage configurations. The final production model also received a substantial battery upgrade: AYN replaced the originally reported 6,600mAh battery with an 8,000mAh unit.
As of August 2026, AYN lists the Odin2 Portal on its official store at $259, reduced from $329, although the Base/Black variant is marked backordered. That makes the Portal a large-screen Android and emulation handheld—not a new processor generation or a direct replacement for an x86 PC gaming device.

The battery specification changed before production
The most important correction to early Odin2 Portal coverage concerns the battery. The initial October 21, 2024 specification report listed a 6,600mAh battery. AYN subsequently announced an upgrade to 8,000mAh in an Indiegogo update dated December 13, 2024.
AYN said the larger battery increased the device’s thickness by about 1.2mm. The 8,000mAh figure is therefore the appropriate specification for the production device and appears in AYN’s current product information. Articles that list only 6,600mAh are repeating the earlier pre-production figure.

The larger battery is especially relevant to a handheld intended for demanding Android games, emulation, streaming and remote play. It does not establish a specific battery-life figure: runtime depends on brightness, refresh rate, game or emulator settings, wireless use and the selected performance mode.

Display, cooling and performance
The Portal’s defining hardware feature is its 7-inch OLED panel. It runs at 1920×1080 and supports both 60Hz and 120Hz operation. Launch coverage reported brightness of up to 800 nits, while AYN described development of a dynamic refresh-rate feature that could switch between 60Hz and 120Hz.
A 120Hz panel does not mean every game or emulator renders at 120 frames per second. The refresh rate describes how often the display can update; actual frame rate depends on the application, game engine, emulator, graphics backend, drivers, resolution and thermal conditions. A 120Hz mode can still be useful for supported Android games, menus, scrolling and game streaming even when a title does not run at 120fps.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 places the Portal in the high-end Android handheld class for its generation. Active cooling and a reported peak 27W TDP were intended to help the device sustain demanding workloads. Those specifications do not guarantee that every game will maintain a particular frame rate or avoid thermal throttling.

The Portal is a capable target for Android games, demanding emulation workloads, cloud gaming and remote play. Universal claims such as “every PlayStation 2 game runs perfectly” or “Switch games run flawlessly” cannot be established from the chipset specification alone.
Odin2 Portal models and launch prices
| Model | RAM | Storage | Super Early Bird | Advertised retail price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base | 8GB | 128GB | $299 | $349 |
| Pro | 12GB | 512GB | $379 | $429 |
| Max | 16GB | 1TB | $479 | $529 |
The campaign also listed Early Bird prices of $329, $399 and $499. These were limited Indiegogo campaign tiers, not permanent retail prices. The $299 figure often associated with the Portal was the Base model’s Super Early Bird price.
Which configuration makes sense?
- Base, 8GB/128GB: The lowest-cost option for buyers who use cloud storage, streaming or expandable storage where supported. The available evidence does not justify calling 8GB inadequate for all games.
- Pro, 12GB/512GB: The most balanced configuration on paper, with substantially more internal storage and additional memory without the Max model’s premium.
- Max, 16GB/1TB: Best for users who keep large local libraries and want maximum memory headroom. It is not automatically faster in games because all three versions use the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform.
Launch and shipping timeline
- October 21, 2024: Pre-release coverage detailed the core specifications, including the then-reported 6,600mAh battery.
- October 23, 2024: AYN launched the Odin2 Portal campaign on Indiegogo and opened global ordering.
- December 2024: Initial campaign expectations pointed to order shipments beginning during December.
- January 14, 2025: AYN said Portal shipments had started.
- January 15, 2025: AYN acknowledged production delays and said approximately half of Indiegogo orders were expected to ship by January 26, with further shipments beginning after the factory resumed operations on February 12.
The curved glass display panel was identified as a production bottleneck. Consequently, the October 2024 launch date marked the beginning of ordering, not uninterrupted delivery to every backer or immediate availability of every configuration.

What the Portal improves over the standard Odin2
The Portal uses the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform as the Odin2 family, so its central upgrade is not a generational leap in processing power. Its appeal comes from the surrounding hardware:
- A 7-inch display instead of the standard Odin2’s 6-inch screen.
- OLED contrast and colour advantages over a conventional LCD panel.
- 120Hz capability alongside 60Hz operation.
- An 8,000mAh production battery.
- Active cooling for higher-performance workloads.
- Hall-effect sticks designed to reduce the long-term stick-drift concern associated with conventional potentiometer sticks.
The trade-off is size. The larger screen is more comfortable for many games and emulators, but it makes the Portal less pocketable than smaller Android handhelds.

The Portal should be evaluated as a large-screen Odin2-family device rather than as AYN’s newest performance platform. AYN’s current Odin 3 listing advertises newer Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 hardware, Android 15, a 6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, an 8,000mAh battery and a listed price signal of $349 for the displayed pre-order listing checked in August 2026.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

The Portal remains the more direct fit for someone who specifically wants a 7-inch OLED screen. Price and availability can change, and the Odin 3 listing’s displayed pre-order status should be checked before ordering.

The older Odin 2 Base is listed at $339 on the checked page but marked sold out. It has a smaller 6-inch 1080p touchscreen and does not offer the Portal’s larger OLED display in the listed product summary.
Who should buy the Odin2 Portal?
The Portal makes the most sense for buyers who want a large, high-contrast screen for Android games, emulation, cloud gaming or remote play and who value a large battery, active cooling and Hall-effect controls. The current official-store price can make it attractive when the desired configuration is available.
It is a weaker choice for someone who wants the newest Android hardware, a genuinely pocketable handheld or native PC-game compatibility comparable to a Steam Deck-class Windows or SteamOS device. Android also involves more setup: emulators, graphics drivers, controller profiles and per-game settings may need to be selected and configured individually.
Buyers should also distinguish ordinary retail purchasing from the original Indiegogo campaign. Crowdfunding carries fulfillment and campaign risk, as Indiegogo’s campaign page notes, while current store availability can still vary by model and colour.
