The base ASUS ROG Xbox Ally briefly appeared on Amazon US on August 13, 2025, before ASUS and Xbox formally announced its launch details. However, the listing revealed product specifications—not the US release date. Xbox and ASUS later confirmed that the handheld would launch in the United States on October 16, 2025.
What happened to the ROG Xbox Ally Amazon listing?
The white, base-model ROG Xbox Ally was reportedly spotted on Amazon US on August 13, 2025, by Tom Warren and reported by Windows Central. The page included product imagery and specifications, but it was later removed and reportedly returned a 404 error.

It was an Amazon retail listing for an ASUS product, not an official Xbox or ASUS launch announcement. Its appearance suggested that a formal announcement was approaching, but it did not establish when the handheld would go on sale in the United States.
Did Amazon reveal the US release date?
No. The contemporary report said the listing contained neither a confirmed US price nor a release date. The date later associated with the device came from the official announcement issued on August 20, five days after the Amazon listing story.

What the listing revealed
The Amazon page exposed or reinforced the configuration of the lower-priced ROG Xbox Ally. Its core specifications were later confirmed on the official Xbox product page:
| Feature | ROG Xbox Ally |
|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen Z2 A |
| Memory | 16GB LPDDR5-6400 |
| Storage | 512GB PCIe Gen 4 M.2 2280 SSD |
| Display | 7-inch 1080p IPS touchscreen |
| Refresh rate | 120Hz |
| Brightness | 500 nits |
| Operating system | Windows 11 Home |
| Battery | 60Wh |
| Wireless | Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 |
| Weight | Approximately 670g |
| Included accessories | 65W charger and stand |
The device is a Windows gaming handheld with Xbox-focused software integration. It can provide access to Xbox and Game Pass content while also supporting PC storefronts such as Steam, Epic Games Store and Battle.net. It is not an Xbox console in the same hardware or software sense as an Xbox Series X or Series S.
What remained unknown at the time
When the Amazon listing appeared, readers still did not have official confirmation of:
- US pricing
- The pre-order date
- The official launch date
- Final retailer availability
Reports of approximately €599 for the base model and €899 for the Ally X were European pricing leaks, not confirmed US prices. They could not reliably be converted into American prices because regional taxes, currency conversion and retailer policies differ.

Official US pricing and pre-orders
Xbox announced US pre-orders on September 25, 2025. The estimated retail prices were:
- ROG Xbox Ally: $599.99
- ROG Xbox Ally X: $999.99
Those figures are launch estimated retail prices rather than a guarantee of every retailer’s current selling price. The pre-order announcement is available on Xbox Wire.
ROG Xbox Ally versus ROG Xbox Ally X
The leaked Amazon product was the base ROG Xbox Ally. It should not be confused with the Ally X, whose hardware is substantially different.
| Feature | ROG Xbox Ally | ROG Xbox Ally X |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen Z2 A | AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme |
| Memory | 16GB LPDDR5-6400 | 24GB LPDDR5X-8000 |
| Storage | 512GB | 1TB |
| Battery | 60Wh | 80Wh |
| Weight | Approximately 670g | Approximately 715g |
| Triggers | Hall Effect triggers | Impulse triggers |
| US launch ERP | $599.99 | $999.99 |
The Ally X has more memory, storage, battery capacity and processing capability on paper, but it is also heavier and costs considerably more. Buyers should not assume that performance or battery life will be identical between the two models.

The Amazon appearance was significant because it provided early evidence that the base ROG Xbox Ally was being prepared for US retail distribution. It also exposed the US-market configuration before the formal announcement.

But retailer metadata has limits. An Amazon page can appear before a company is ready to publish pricing, pre-orders or launch timing, and it can be removed without meaning that a product has been canceled. In this case, the later official announcement confirmed the product and the October 16 launch date.

The base Ally’s $599.99 launch price makes it meaningfully cheaper than the Ally X, but it remains a Windows gaming PC rather than a traditional console. Its 512GB SSD may fill quickly with large PC games, although the M.2 2280 design supports storage upgrades. The 16GB memory configuration is also less generous than the Ally X’s 24GB.
The 7-inch 1080p 120Hz screen is well suited to handheld PC gaming, but demanding games may not run at native resolution and high refresh rates simultaneously. Xbox Cloud Gaming also depends on supported regions, devices and Game Pass requirements; it is not necessary for playing games from PC storefronts such as Steam or Epic Games Store.
At approximately 670g, the base model is portable but heavier than many conventional handheld consoles. Those trade-offs matter more to a buying decision than the temporary Amazon listing itself.
