Its appeal is clear, but the model name alone does not tell you how fast it is: GU603Z configurations range from RTX 3050 Ti to RTX 3080 Ti, with different GPU power limits, memory and storage. Buy or evaluate the exact suffix, not just the M16 name.
What the 2022 Zephyrus M16 is—and what varies
The GU603Z family is a thin 16-inch gaming and creator laptop built around 12th Gen Intel hardware. ASUS’s global specification table lists an i9-12900H in the four example configurations below, but the graphics tier and other components differ. Those examples are regional configurations, not a guarantee that every market sells the same combination. ASUS’s global specifications are the basis for the table.

These are ASUS-listed example combinations, and the specification table gives configuration-dependent GPU power and memory limits. It does not justify treating the RTX 3080 Ti, 3070 Ti, 3060 and 3050 Ti versions as equivalent or transferring results from one to another. Check the complete suffix and the local listing before comparing or buying.
Display: a strong feature on paper
ASUS specifies a 16-inch 16:10 QHD+ panel at 2560 × 1600, with a 165Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, Adaptive-Sync and 100% DCI-P3. Its product materials also list Pantone validation and Dolby Vision, and describe a 94% screen-to-body ratio and a 16-inch screen in a 15-inch chassis. These are manufacturer specifications and feature claims, not independent measurements of brightness, color accuracy, gamut coverage or response time. For games, 165Hz gives the display room to show high frame rates, while the 2560 × 1600 resolution asks more of the GPU than a lower-resolution panel would. That makes configuration choice especially relevant: the screen is shared across the family, but the graphics hardware is not. Neither the specification sheet nor the stated display features establish how many frames a particular configuration delivers in a specific game.
Gaming performance and the MUX switch
ASUS says the MUX switch can route graphics directly to the display in direct GPU mode, reducing latency and boosting performance by an average of 9% for competitive games. That is ASUS’s claim, not an independently verified benchmark for every game or GU603Z configuration. See ASUS’s US product page for its description.

The available evidence does not establish measured frame rates, temperatures, fan noise or sustained performance for a specific retail suffix. A third-party video review says its author tested a GU603Z for a week and covered benchmarks and battery life, describing battery life as a weakness; that is the reviewer’s report, not a test result attributable to this article. The surfaced video listing does not provide a sufficiently precise benchmark dataset here for a configuration-by-configuration performance verdict.
Memory and storage: check the exact upgrade path
ASUS’s global table lists one SO-DIMM slot and two M.2 PCIe slots, but onboard RAM, maximum memory and installed SSD capacity depend on the configuration. The US product page describes up to 48GB of DDR5-4800 memory and up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage; it also says the second M.2 slot supports PCIe 4.0 and RAID 0. Those US-page maxima should not be assumed to apply to every regional SKU. Confirm the suffix and its specification before planning an upgrade. ASUS’s US product page gives those US-specific details.

Battery life: the advertised figure is video playback, not gaming
The M16 has a 90Wh battery, and ASUS advertises up to 10 hours of video playback. ASUS states that its playback test used a GU603ZW with QHD 165Hz LCD, Core i9-12900H, RTX 3070 Ti and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD; Wi-Fi was enabled but not connected to an access point, and screen brightness was set to 150 nits. That controlled vendor playback figure is not a gaming-runtime estimate and should not be applied to other workloads. ASUS also lists 100W Type-C charging support. It can make sense for someone who wants a relatively portable gaming laptop with a 16:10 QHD+ high-refresh display, but value depends on the exact GPU and the price and condition of the unit. Since current street prices, stock, warranty terms and independently measured performance for a specified SKU are not established here, there is no reliable blanket verdict on whether the M16 is a good deal today.

- Identify the full SKU. Confirm the suffix, CPU, GPU model and GPU power specification on the listing or device label.
- Match performance evidence to hardware. A review of an RTX 3070 Ti model does not establish RTX 3050 Ti or RTX 3080 Ti performance.
- Check memory and storage before purchase. Verify installed RAM, the configuration-specific maximum, drive capacity and whether the second M.2 slot is available on that exact unit.
- Compare the complete offer. Weigh price, condition and warranty alongside comparable tests of gaming performance, noise, heat and battery life—not ASUS’s video-playback claim as if it were gaming runtime.
