How Waylay’s Lightspeed Double Dash Works in VALORANT

Waylay’s Lightspeed can dash her forward twice with primary fire, or once with alternate fire. Only the first dash can send her upward, according to Riot’s official Patch 10.04 ability description.

How Waylay’s double dash works

Waylay is a Thai Duelist in VALORANT. Riot introduced her in Patch 10.04, published March 4, 2025, and described Lightspeed with a clear distinction between its two fire inputs:

In other words, “double dash” refers to using primary fire for two forward dashes in sequence. Alternate fire gives Waylay a single forward dash instead. The vertical-movement qualification applies only to the first dash; Riot’s description does not say that the second dash can send her upward. Riot’s Patch 10.04 notes are the source for these instructions.

What the double dash does—and does not—mean

• Primary fire: two forward dashes.
• Alternate fire: one forward dash.
• Upward movement: possible only on the first dash.

Those are Riot’s stated inputs and movement limits, not a claim about how far or fast a dash travels, or how it compares with another agent’s movement ability. The patch description establishes the ability’s intended behavior; it is not an independent gameplay test.

Has Riot changed Lightspeed’s double-dash input?

Later patch notes contain Waylay balance adjustments and bug fixes, but the retrieved notes do not describe a redesign of Lightspeed’s two-dash-versus-one-dash input. Patch 13.02 lists a Lightspeed bug fix for unintended speed and distance when Waylay immediately equipped the Spike or a Flex item, along with a separate clipping fix. Patch 13.02 describes fixes, not a change to the stated firing modes.

Other changes affect different abilities. Patch 12.06 changed Saturate from instant to equip, and later notes include Waylay fixes involving Saturate and Refract. Those updates do not establish a change to Lightspeed’s launch-described inputs.
