atimpc32.dll is an AMD Radeon graphics-driver component, not a normal Windows runtime file. The safest fix is to reinstall the correct AMD graphics driver rather than downloading this DLL from a random website.
What atimpc32.dll is
atimpc32.dll belongs to the Radeon PCOM Universal Driver supplied by Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD driver packages contain both atimpc32.dll and a 64-bit counterpart named atimpc64.dll.
The file is a 32-bit Portable Executable DLL. On 64-bit Windows, the normal location is often:

C:WindowsSysWOW64atimpc32.dll
That location is not suspicious by itself. Microsoft uses SysWOW64 for shared 32-bit code on 64-bit Windows, while System32 contains the native 64-bit system directory. The names are confusing, but a 32-bit DLL in SysWOW64 is expected.
atimpc32.dll is not part of DirectX, .NET, or the Visual C++ runtime. It is normally installed alongside AMD display-driver files. Reported driver inventories include many different builds, so a version such as 26.20.15029.27016 should not be treated as a universal current version.
Is atimpc32.dll malware
The filename is legitimate, but a filename alone does not prove that a particular copy is safe.
A genuine copy should normally be in an AMD driver location or the expected Windows driver directory. Treat a copy found in a temporary folder, an unrelated application directory, or a random user-profile folder with caution.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo inspect the file:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the file shown in the error, if Windows provides a path.
- Right-click
atimpc32.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
A valid AMD or Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher signature supports the file’s provenance. It does not prove that every copy with that name was installed legitimately, so also check its location and how it arrived on the computer.
Do not restore a quarantined DLL simply because its filename looks familiar.
What the error usually means
These messages usually indicate that Windows or an AMD-dependent application cannot load the graphics-driver component. Common causes include:
- An incomplete AMD Software installation.
- A failed graphics-driver update.
- A driver removed during cleanup.
- A mismatched driver for the GPU or laptop.
- Antivirus quarantine.
- A damaged game or application installation.
- A driver regression after an update.
- Windows component corruption.
- A copy of the DLL with the wrong architecture or driver generation.
A “Bad Image” or “not designed to run on Windows” message usually means that the module is damaged, incompatible, wrongly architected, or mismatched with its companion files. It does not necessarily mean that atimpc32.dll alone is defective.

Identify the graphics hardware
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Note the AMD Radeon model.
- If the adapter has a warning icon, right-click it and select Properties.
- Read the message on the General tab.
For a laptop, check the laptop manufacturer’s support page first. Laptop graphics drivers may include device-specific customizations that a generic package does not.
Download and install the driver
- Open AMD’s official Drivers and Support page.
- Select the Radeon product family and exact model, or use AMD’s official auto-detection option.
- Download the package for your Windows installation.
- Close games and graphics applications.
- Start the installer.
- Choose Additional Options when shown.
- Enable Factory Reset if the option is available.
- Continue the installation.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
AMD’s Factory Reset option removes previous AMD Software packages and temporarily pauses Windows Update during installation. This helps prevent old driver files from being mixed with the new package.
After restarting, launch the program that produced the error. If it opens normally and Device Manager shows the Radeon adapter without a warning icon, the repair worked.

Fix 2: Use AMD Cleanup Utility when installation fails
Use this step when the normal AMD installer will not complete, repeatedly rolls back, or leaves the same error after reinstalling.
- Download AMD Cleanup Utility from AMD’s official support site.
- Save your work and close open applications.
- Run the utility.
- Accept the warning about removing AMD graphics and audio drivers.
- Allow Windows to restart into Safe Mode if the utility offers that option.
- Confirm the cleanup.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Restart Windows if it does not restart automatically.
- Install the correct AMD driver from AMD or the laptop manufacturer.
- Restart again.
AMD states that Cleanup Utility removes AMD graphics and audio drivers and prepares the system for a fresh installation. It does not remove AMD chipset drivers.
Do not interrupt the cleanup while the display driver is being removed. The screen may change resolution temporarily; that is normal while Windows is using a basic display driver.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Defender or another antivirus product may have removed the file.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
atimpc32.dll. - Expand the entry and review its path and detection details.
Microsoft documents Protection History and its restore options in its Windows Security guidance.
Do not immediately choose Restore. First confirm that:

- The file was inside an AMD driver directory or the expected Windows driver location.
- The AMD package came from AMD or the computer manufacturer.
- The file has a trustworthy digital signature.
- The detection is not identifying suspicious behavior or a modified file.
Reinstalling the complete AMD driver is safer than restoring an isolated DLL. If the file is genuinely malicious, restoring it can put the computer at risk.

Fix 4: Repair the affected game or application
If only one game or program displays the error, the application may be damaged even though the DLL belongs to the graphics driver.
Try the application’s own repair function:
- Open the game launcher or application manager.
- Open the program’s settings or library page.
- Choose Verify, Repair, or Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the check to finish.
- Allow damaged or missing application files to be replaced.
- Restart the program.
For a traditional desktop application:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the application.
- Open its menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- If Repair does not help, use Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings.
If the program was installed incompletely, uninstall it from Installed apps, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the program’s official source. Reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when its own files are damaged.
Fix 5: Roll back a driver regression
If atimpc32.dll began failing immediately after an AMD update, the new driver may be incompatible with the GPU, application, or laptop firmware.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Double-click the AMD Radeon adapter.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if it is available.
- Choose a reason and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
If Roll Back Driver is unavailable, install a previous AMD-supported driver for that exact GPU. On older Radeon hardware, use AMD’s legacy driver selection or the laptop manufacturer’s package rather than assuming the newest package supports every model.

atimpc32.dll normally comes from AMD, so Windows repair commands are not the first choice. Use them when Windows itself appears damaged, AMD installation repeatedly fails, or other protected system files are also reporting errors.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the AMD driver installer again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command is guaranteed to replace an AMD driver DLL.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of checking Windows problems less repetitive; its free scan identifies reported issues, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the AMD driver when that is the actual cause.
If DISM reports that source files cannot be found, use a matching Windows installation source as described in Microsoft’s repair guidance. Do not copy system files from another computer.
Fix 7: Install Visual C++ only for a separate runtime error
Installing Visual C++ does not normally restore atimpc32.dll.

It may be relevant if the AMD installer or the affected application separately reports files such as:
MSVCP*.dll
VCRUNTIME*.dll
Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads. A 32-bit application generally needs the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows. Both x86 and x64 packages can be installed on 64-bit Windows when different applications require them.
DirectX and .NET likewise do not normally replace this AMD driver component. Install those only when the application reports a separate, specific requirement.
Should you run regsvr32
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM or ActiveX components. A graphics-driver module is not normally repaired by registering it.
Running this command:
regsvr32 atimpc32.dll
is unlikely to solve the problem. It may instead produce an error stating that the module loaded but an entry point was not found.
Reinstall the complete AMD driver package instead. The driver’s companion files, services, configuration, and architecture must match; registering one DLL does not recreate that installation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you download atimpc32.dll separately
No. Random DLL download sites can provide:
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
- An incompatible driver generation.
- A modified or unsigned file.
- Malware.
- A DLL that lacks its required AMD companion files.
Copying the file into System32, SysWOW64, a game folder, or the AMD directory can also create DLL search-order problems.

FAQ
Is atimpc32.dll a Windows file
No. It is an AMD Radeon driver component. Windows may load it, and a normal copy may appear in SysWOW64, but it is not a standard Windows runtime such as DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++.
Why is a 32-bit file on 64-bit Windows
Some 32-bit applications and driver components still require 32-bit libraries. Windows stores shared 32-bit system code in SysWOW64, so that location is normal on 64-bit Windows.
Which AMD products install it
It is associated with the Radeon PCOM Universal Driver and is distributed in AMD Radeon driver packages. The exact package depends on the GPU, Windows version, and whether the computer is a desktop or laptop.
Can I fix it by copying the file from another computer
That is not recommended. The other computer may have a different architecture, driver generation, or GPU. Install the complete matching driver package instead.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if Windows Defender quarantined it
Review Protection History, verify the file’s location and signature, and prefer reinstalling the AMD driver. Restore it only when its provenance is trustworthy.
What if reinstalling the driver does nothing
Repair the affected application, check Device Manager and Reliability Monitor, test an earlier compatible driver, and investigate Windows Update replacing the package. Persistent crashes or graphical artifacts may indicate a hardware problem rather than a missing DLL.
