ATM 9 To the Sky (All the Mods 9 – To the Sky) is the skyblock edition of the All the Mods family. The release documented here targets Minecraft 1.20.1, uses Forge, and lists atm9sky-1.1.9 as the current project release at the time of writing. The official files section also provides a matching ServerFiles-1.1.9 archive, so you should install that exact pack version on both clients and the server rather than assembling mods by hand.

This guide explains what the pack contains, how to install it, how to deploy the supplied server files, how much memory and hardware to plan for, and when managed hosting is easier than self-hosting. The practical memory figures below are operating recommendations from an independent setup guide, not an official ATMTeam minimum.

What is ATM 9 To the Sky?

All the Mods 9 – To the Sky is a void-based, open-ended progression pack. You begin with a single tree and expand a floating base into a large technology-and-magic production system. The official description summarizes the premise as: “Starting with only a tree, fill the void with large amounts of technology and magic!” Its content includes automation systems such as Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum, alongside the broad collection of mods associated with the All the Mods series.

Unlike a conventional overworld survival pack, a skyblock start makes every resource loop deliberate. Early platforms, cobblestone or wood generation, storage, power, ore processing, and mob drops become infrastructure projects. As the world grows, automated machines and additional dimensions can create substantial CPU, memory, storage, and chunk-loading demands. That is why a correctly matched server installation matters more than simply copying a few mod files.

Release and compatibility facts

Item Documented value What it means
Minecraft version 1.20.1 Clients and the server must launch on this game version.
Mod loader Forge Use the Forge build bundled or selected by the pack release.
Latest listed pack release atm9sky-1.1.9 Use the same release number for every player and the server.
Matching server archive ServerFiles-1.1.9 Download the server package from the official project files instead of building a server manually.
Java baseline Java 17 or newer The current independent ATM setup guide identifies this as the compatibility baseline.

Pack releases can change after publication. Check the official CurseForge project page for the release currently offered, then download the server archive whose version matches the client pack. Do not assume that a newer Forge installer, a different Minecraft patch, or an apparently similar ATM release is interchangeable.

How to install ATM 9 To the Sky on a client

The simplest client installation uses a launcher that can import CurseForge modpacks. The Modrinth App, Prism Launcher, and ATLauncher are examples of launchers that support modpack workflows in general; the official ATM9 Sky distribution itself is the CurseForge project. Whichever launcher you use, select the exact release rather than an automatically updated “latest” profile if you are joining an existing server.

Client installation procedure

  1. Install a supported launcher. Use a launcher with CurseForge pack import or installation support. Keep the launcher and its Java configuration up to date.
  2. Find All the Mods 9 – To the Sky. Confirm that the project is the ATMTeam pack for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, not a similarly named community pack.
  3. Select the server’s release number. For the documented release, that is atm9sky-1.1.9. If your server administrator chose another release, select that exact number instead.
  4. Check Java. Configure the launcher to use Java 17 or newer, as advised by the current ATM setup guide. A launcher using an older Java runtime can fail before Minecraft reaches the title screen.
  5. Install to a drive with room to grow. Modpack files, logs, shader or resource files, backups, and a growing world all consume storage. An SSD is preferable for loading chunks and restarting a large instance.
  6. Launch once in single-player. Let the launcher finish downloading and generating its instance, then close the game cleanly. This catches missing downloads and Java problems before you attempt a multiplayer connection.
  7. Join through Multiplayer. Enter the address supplied by the server owner. If the connection fails, verify versions before changing advanced settings.

What a modpack installation actually contains

A modpack is more than a folder of mod jars. It bundles mods with configuration files and, depending on the distribution, scripts, resource files, and dependency metadata. Replacing one jar or copying only the mods directory can leave configuration differences that produce missing-mod, registry, or handshake errors. A clean launcher instance based on the published pack is safer than manually editing an old profile.

How to download and deploy the ATM9 Sky server files

For a dedicated server, use the matching ServerFiles archive from the official CurseForge files section. The independent ATM setup guidance recommends the pack’s supplied server files and its release-pinned loader. This keeps the Minecraft version, Forge installation, mods, and configuration set together.

Server installation checklist

  • A machine or hosting account with Java 17 or newer.
  • Free SSD capacity for the extracted files, logs, backups, and world growth.
  • Permission to run the supplied installation and startup scripts.
  • Firewall and router access if players will connect from outside your local network.
  • A backup destination separate from the live world directory.

Deployment steps

  1. Create a dedicated directory. Use a path reserved for this server, not a shared Minecraft folder. Keeping the instance isolated makes upgrades and backups easier.
  2. Download the matching archive. If clients use atm9sky-1.1.9, download ServerFiles-1.1.9. Never mix a server archive from one release with a client profile from another.
  3. Extract the archive without changing its layout. Preserve the supplied folders, configuration files, scripts, and installer files. Do not merge them into another Forge installation.
  4. Run the supplied startup or installation script. Script names vary by release, so use the files included in that archive. The first run normally installs the pinned Forge components and creates required server files.
  5. Accept Minecraft’s EULA when prompted. Read the EULA and change the generated setting only if you agree to it. The server will not proceed while that requirement is unmet.
  6. Allow the Forge installation to finish. Stop and read the console if it reports a Java version error, a permission failure, or an incomplete download. Do not replace the loader with a newer version simply because one is available.
  7. Start the server once, then stop it cleanly. A clean stop lets the pack write configuration and world data. Avoid killing the process while it is saving.
  8. Review generated settings. Set an operator account, choose the server name and gameplay settings you want, and inspect the configuration files before inviting players.
  9. Configure network access. For a home server, create the necessary firewall rule and router port-forwarding rule for your network. The pack sources do not publish a pack-specific port requirement, so follow the standard Minecraft administration procedure for your operating system and router.
  10. Record recovery information. Keep the launch command, Java path, server directory, backup location, and administrator account details in a secure place.

First-start verification

Before sharing the address, connect locally if possible, teleport or move around the starting island, and watch the console for repeated errors. Confirm that the world saves and that a clean stop produces no corruption warning. Then test one remote connection. A successful local connection with a failed remote connection usually points to firewall, router, or address configuration rather than a modpack mismatch.

Keeping clients and server versions aligned

Version alignment is the first troubleshooting check when a player cannot connect. Compare the complete pack release, Minecraft version, Forge version, and configuration set—not just the visible pack name. A client that silently updated to a newer profile can fail the handshake even when both installations are called ATM9 Sky.

  • Disable automatic pack updates on clients that must remain on a stable server.
  • Upgrade the server and every client as one planned change.
  • Back up the world before changing pack, loader, or configuration files.
  • Keep the old server directory until the new release has been tested and accepted by all players.

Common mismatch symptoms

Symptom Likely check
“Incompatible mod set” or handshake failure Compare the pack release and Forge version on both sides.
Missing registry or missing channel errors Restore the published client instance and confirm that configuration files were not copied from another release.
Server stops during startup after an update Read the first meaningful error in the console, restore the previous backup, and verify Java and the pinned loader.
One player connects while another cannot Have the failing player reinstall or repair the exact profile; do not change the server first.

How much RAM and hardware does an ATM9 Sky server need?

The current independent ATM server guide recommends planning for about 8 GB of memory for a small group and 10–12 GB for a busier group. These are practical operating ranges, not an official ATMTeam minimum or a guaranteed player-count formula. Leave additional memory for the operating system and the Java process rather than assigning every available gigabyte to Minecraft.

Why the requirement grows

ATM packs contain many mods, and a skyblock world can expand through automation, structures, dimensions, machines, and permanently loaded areas. A compact early island may run comfortably while a mature factory causes long tick times, garbage-collection pauses, or slow chunk generation. Player count alone does not predict load: one player operating a dense automated base can be heavier than several players exploring simple platforms.

Hardware factors to evaluate

Factor Why it matters
CPU single-thread performance Minecraft’s main tick and many mod systems benefit from strong per-core performance. More cores do not automatically fix a slow main thread.
Allocated memory Use the 8 GB small-group or 10–12 GB busier-group planning range, then leave headroom for the OS and Java.
SSD speed Faster storage helps world saves, chunk loading, restarts, and backup operations.
Network location A region close to most players reduces latency. Geographic distance can matter even when server hardware is adequate.
Backup policy Frequent, restorable backups protect a world that may represent weeks or months of automation work.

Performance practices that help

  • Watch tick time and memory use after players build substantial automation, not only during the first launch.
  • Remove unnecessary force-loaded chunks and review machines that keep distant areas active.
  • Use a scheduled backup routine and periodically test restoring a copy.
  • Keep view distance and simulation settings appropriate to the hardware and player locations.
  • Reserve storage for world growth, logs, and at least one recent backup set.
  • Do not promise a fixed player capacity from RAM alone; CPU speed, storage, chunk loading, view distance, and factory complexity all change the result.

Self-hosting versus managed ATM9 To the Sky hosting

Self-hosting gives you complete control over files, backups, moderation, JVM settings, and the timing of pack upgrades. It also makes you responsible for Java installation, Forge startup, operating-system updates, firewall rules, router configuration, monitoring, and recovery when something fails.

Managed hosting charges a recurring fee in exchange for a control panel, provider-maintained networking, and support. Some providers advertise an ATM9 To the Sky workflow that downloads the server pack, installs the matching loader and Java version, and restarts the server. For example, DoomHosting advertises this type of option; verify its current price, locations, limits, uptime terms, and backup behavior before ordering because those details can change.

Decision factor Self-hosting Managed hosting
Setup effort You install Java, extract the archive, run scripts, configure the firewall, and maintain the machine. The panel may automate pack, loader, and Java installation; exact automation depends on the provider.
Monthly cost No hosting invoice, but you supply hardware, electricity, storage, and your time. Recurring charge; compare the included memory, storage, backups, and support.
File and backup control Full access to files, scripts, JVM flags, and backup schedules. Control varies by panel and terms; confirm download access and restoration options.
Support You diagnose Java, Forge, networking, and world problems yourself. Provider support may help with infrastructure, but mod configuration remains your responsibility unless explicitly included.
Network reach Depends on your home connection, upload capacity, and router. Choose a location near your players and check the provider’s network policy.
Upgrade timing You decide when to back up and change releases. A panel may simplify upgrades, but you still need a compatible client rollout and a rollback plan.
Performance headroom Limited by the physical machine and other workloads sharing it. Depends on the plan’s CPU quality, memory allocation, storage, and oversubscription.

Choose self-hosting when

  • You already have a reliable always-on machine and can administer Java and networking.
  • You want unrestricted access to configuration files, backups, and launch arguments.
  • Your group is comfortable waiting while you troubleshoot outages or upgrades.

Choose managed hosting when

  • You want a persistent world without maintaining a home server.
  • Your network cannot accept inbound connections or your upload capacity is limited.
  • You value a control panel and provider assistance more than total infrastructure control.

Troubleshooting ATM9 Sky server problems

The server will not start

  1. Confirm that the host is running Java 17 or newer.
  2. Run the archive’s supplied installer or startup script from its own directory.
  3. Check that the EULA setting has been accepted.
  4. Read the earliest actionable console error, not only the final shutdown line.
  5. Restore the matching server archive if files were mixed with another Forge installation.

A player cannot connect

  1. Compare the player’s pack release with the server release.
  2. Confirm Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge on both installations.
  3. Have the player repair or reinstall the launcher instance rather than copying individual mods.
  4. If versions match, test the server address, firewall, router forwarding, and whether the server is actually listening.

The world becomes slow after expansion

  • Check CPU and memory while the lag is occurring.
  • Look for force-loaded chunks and automation running in unloaded or distant areas.
  • Reduce view or simulation distance if the hardware is close to its limit.
  • Move backups and other disk-heavy tasks away from peak play time.
  • Profile the specific machines or dimensions causing load before deleting builds.

A crash follows an upgrade

  1. Stop the server and preserve the crash report and latest log.
  2. Restore the pre-upgrade world and server backup.
  3. Verify that every client and the server use the same release and loader.
  4. Test the new release on a copy before reopening the live world.

Practical launch checklist

  • All players have the same ATM9 Sky release.
  • The server uses Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, and Java 17 or newer for the documented release.
  • The server was installed from the matching official ServerFiles archive.
  • The EULA was accepted and the server has been started and stopped cleanly once.
  • An operator account and server settings have been configured.
  • Firewall and router rules have been tested from outside the host network.
  • At least one restorable backup exists before the first major build session.
  • Memory, CPU, storage, and tick performance are being watched as automation grows.

With those checks complete, ATM 9 To the Sky is ready for cooperative progression: clients stay pinned to the server release, the supplied server files keep Forge and configuration aligned, and hardware is reviewed again as the floating base becomes a large automated world.
