It is most appealing if you already enjoy the base game’s exploration, stealth, and combat and want another campaign in that style. The available PC critic reviews disagree sharply: they praise the setting and familiar gameplay to varying degrees, but raise concerns about the story and how little the expansion changes the formula.
What reviewers thought of The Sky Breaker
The available Metacritic PC critic page lists three reviews published July 22–24, 2024. Their scores range from 40 to 77 out of 100, so this small sample is better read as a snapshot of differing opinions than as a broad critical consensus.

GamingTrend summed up its view this way: “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – The Sky Breaker is simply more of the main game. GamingBolt’s July 19, 2024 video review also praised the visuals, while criticizing limited gameplay twists, uninspired loot, and spotty AI. That is one outlet’s assessment, not evidence of a universal view.

What the expansion adds
The story takes place during the Great Games, a Na’vi festival threatened by the RDA. You travel to the Heart of the Plains, a new Upper Plains area, to confront the threat and protect your allies. Ubisoft’s July 16, 2024 release announcement describes it as the first story pack for the game and confirms its launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
A new region and activities
The Heart of the Plains includes the Prism Fields, Feathered Grasslands, and Stone Rapids. Ubisoft describes a mix of new environments and variations on familiar biomes. Alongside the campaign, the pack adds side quests, activities, and timed challenges tied to the festival.

New enemies and progression
The AMP Defender is a new enemy type equipped with a shield and a top-mounted gatling gun. RDA lieutenants in AMP suits appear at command stations. The pack also adds a Legendary rarity category, raises progression to rank 25, and provides additional ways to spend skill points.
Is The Sky Breaker worth it for you?
- You already enjoy the base game: The case for the expansion is strongest if you want more of its exploration and combat loop, with a fresh region, campaign, and festival activities. That recommendation follows from the content description and the sampled reviews; it is not a claim of personal playtesting.
- You want a major reinvention: Be cautious. The reviewers who objected to limited novelty or repetitive missions suggest that the expansion does not substantially change the core experience.
- You mainly want a standout story: The available reviews include criticism of the narrative, including GamingTrend’s description of it as forgettable and Eurogamer Portugal’s view that it is uninspiring. The small sample cannot establish how all critics or players feel.
- You do not own the base game: Factor in that prerequisite before considering the expansion; it cannot be played on its own.
Platforms, release date, and base-game requirement
The Sky Breaker launched July 16, 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Steam listing states that the base game, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, is required. Ubisoft’s US store page identifies the PC digital release, Ubisoft as publisher, and Massive Entertainment as developer; regional listings and current availability can differ.

Ubisoft’s launch announcement also highlighted a 40 FPS Quality mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Intel XeSS on PC, adjusted combat difficulty, PS5 DualSense motion aiming, and changes to direhorse riding camera, handling, and animations. These were launch-era update highlights, not a complete account of the game’s current patch history.

The expansion is downloadable content, so check that you are buying it for the platform on which you own the base game. Steam’s listing is one place to confirm the prerequisite and current PC offer. Its displayed price and user-review totals can change; the listing showed $14.99 and 71% positive from 99 user reviews when accessed October 8, 2026, figures that are a time-sensitive storefront snapshot rather than fixed terms. The page also presents a Season Pass option with two story packs, a bonus quest, and cosmetics.
