When did the mode arrive, and can you switch views?
The free update went live on December 5, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Ubisoft Store, Steam and Epic Games Store. The game opens in first-person, but players can switch to third-person at any point during a playthrough, according to Ubisoft’s update announcement.

What changes between first- and third-person?
The clearest confirmed difference is what the camera shows. In first-person, players see the world from their character’s perspective. Third-person lets them see their Na’vi character, including equipped cosmetics. The sources do not establish that either view improves performance, accessibility, or combat balance.
The distinction is notable because Avatar.com describes the game as a first-person action-adventure set in Pandora’s Western Frontier. Massive Entertainment, a Ubisoft studio, developed it in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney. The new option adds another way to view and play the same adventure.

What else came in the update?
The December 5 update also introduced New Game+. Ubisoft says it retains inventory and skills, adds tougher enemies, a new skill tree and more powerful gear, and reveals the map from the start. It unlocks after completing the main story and does not apply to The Sky Breaker or Secrets of the Spires story packs.
Ubisoft also highlighted a revamped Hunter’s Guide, rebalanced combat and a smoother 40 FPS mode. These are separate changes in the broader update; the announcement does not say they were required for third-person view.
