Finding a Fragment of Starmetal starts Forged of Star-Stuff, but it does not let you forge a weapon right away. You must progress to Galawain’s Tusks and reach Forgemaster Dela at Solace Keep. Starmetal fragments are found across all four regions: Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, Shatterscarp, and Galawain’s Tusks.
How the quest works
Pick up a Fragment of Starmetal in any region to begin the quest. The fragment is a quest trigger, not a portable smithing station: Dela, the Starmetal smith, is at Solace Keep in Galawain’s Tusks, which you reach later in the story. GameSpot describes this progression gate, while Game8 outlines the quest sequence of finding a fragment, locating a smith, forging a weapon, and upgrading weapons (GameSpot; Game8).
All four Starmetal fragment regions
Guides identify one fragment in each of Avowed’s four regions:
- Dawnshore
- Emerald Stair
- Shatterscarp
- Galawain’s Tusks
The available guide information establishes the region for each fragment, but not consistent landmark-by-landmark directions for all four locations. Use the map and explore each region for its fragment; avoid treating a fragment found early as proof that Dela is already accessible. Find Forgemaster Dela at Solace Keep
Continue the main story until you can reach Galawain’s Tusks, then go to Solace Keep and speak with Forgemaster Dela. If you have found a fragment in Dawnshore or another earlier region, you still need to make this story progress before you can use Dela’s Starmetal forging service. The quest guides place the smith and forge in Solace Keep (PC Gamer; GameSpot).

The sources establish the weapon types, but do not provide a neutral, build-specific reason to prefer one. Choose based on whether you want the sword or the ranged arquebus. Game8 and GameSpot identify Dela’s two options (Game8; GameSpot).
What the remaining fragments do
Claiming one weapon is not the same as completing the full collection quest. The guides describe using all four fragments to obtain and upgrade both unique weapons, the Meteor Blade and Moonstrike, which completes the quest. If you want the complete reward progression rather than just an initial weapon, keep searching after your first visit to Dela and return as you gather the other fragments.
