How do you unlock Avowed’s rare ending?
According to Millenium’s February 26, 2025 report on a Screen Rant interview with Venus Theory, the composer said the ending depends on specific choices made earlier in the game and a final speech check. The reported twist is that failing the final check leads to the unusual ending, while passing it leads to a standard ending.
Millenium does not list the earlier choices or explain the speech check’s exact conditions. That means the report offers a clue, not a reliable step-by-step route: the final-check reversal is attributed reporting, and the full trigger has not been established by the sources cited here.
What did the composer say about the ending?
Millenium describes Venus Theory as saying that the ending was musically fun and challenging to create, and that he was curious whether anyone would obtain it. The outlet reproduces his remarks in French translation; the original Screen Rant interview text and a verified English transcript are not available in the cited reporting, so the translated wording should not be treated as an exact English quote.

Millenium also reports that game director Carrie Patel described Avowed as having “double digits” of ending permutations. That is a reported threshold, not an exact count, and it does not identify the requirements for this particular ending. Millenium characterizes the teased ending as probably non-canon; that, too, is an attributed description rather than a confirmed statement of canon status.
Is this the Lödwyn or Steel Garrote ending?
Not based on the available evidence. PC Gamer’s March 7, 2025 ending guide describes a Lödwyn route involving pro-Steel Garrote decisions and ultimately siding with her. It is a documented route, but neither that guide nor Millenium establishes that it is the ending Venus Theory teased.

PC Gamer says Lödwyn’s support can depend on earlier decisions, including killing Ygwulf, allowing Fior to burn, letting Kostya destroy Solace Keep, and killing Sapadal. Those choices belong to the Lödwyn route; they should not be presented as prerequisites for the composer’s rare ending.
PC Gamer reported on March 1, 2025 that the Steam achievement “Tyranny,” associated with the Lödwyn/Steel Garrote route, had 0.2% ownership at that time. That is a dated Steam snapshot for a different route, not a current rarity figure or evidence about the teased ending.

How Avowed’s ending choices fit together
For the broader ending structure, PC Gamer identifies two major decisions that shape the main ending variations: how the player handles Sapadal and the political outcome for the Living Lands. Smaller quest and companion decisions can affect the ending slides. Those general factors help explain why endings can vary, but they do not fill in the missing prerequisites for the composer’s tease.
