Was Avowed really Steam’s top-selling game?
Avowed was discussed as a strong performer on Steam around launch, but the available evidence does not verify an exact historical rank or establish that it was number one. SteamDB’s live snapshot accessed October 8, 2026 lists the game at #1027 in Steam top sellers; that is a point-in-time third-party ranking, not a record of its launch-period peak. SteamDB’s Avowed page does not establish the precise earlier chart date, interval, or geographic scope meant by the claim.
A Steam sales-chart position is also narrower than the game’s overall reach. Avowed launched on Steam, Battle.net, the Xbox app for Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, and cloud, and was available day one through Game Pass. Steam’s chart measures activity on that storefront; it does not rank Game Pass access or sales and activity on other platforms. Xbox Wire’s launch announcement also says purchases through Xbox or the Windows Store support Xbox Play Anywhere, sharing play and progress between Xbox and Windows PC.
Is Avowed still rated “Very Positive” on Steam?
No. On October 8, 2026, Steam displayed “Mostly Positive” for both English-language reviews overall and recent reviews. The snapshot showed 77% positive across 9,734 reviews overall and 77% across 237 recent reviews. These are changing Steam page figures, not permanent scores. Check the Steam listing for the live label and counts.

“Very Positive” should therefore be treated as a claim about an earlier moment, not the current Steam rating. Steam review labels summarize user reviews; they are distinct from sales rank and do not establish how many copies the game sold.
When did Avowed reach the top of Steam’s sales chart?
The available chart evidence does not pin down a verified date or rank for a top position. SteamDB records a Steam concurrent-player peak of 19,198 on February 23, 2025, but that is a player-count statistic, not a sales figure or proof that the game topped a sales chart. No publisher-confirmed sales-unit total or revenue estimate is established by the cited sources.

What is Avowed, and when did it launch?
Avowed is a first-person fantasy role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. It launched on February 18, 2025, and is set in the Living Lands, an island in Eora, the fictional world introduced in the Pillars of Eternity series. Steam describes its adventure in terms of alliances, rivalries, magic, steel, and choices that shape the player’s path.
Obsidian’s framing emphasizes consequences beyond a single quest. In an Xbox Wire interview published January 24, 2025, Region Director Berto Ritger said choices can affect “the future of entire settlements, individual people, groups of people — the whole spectrum basically.” Narrative Designer Kate Dollarhyde described a preference for leaving room for discovery rather than making the world “easily digested and handed to the player.” Read the Xbox Wire interview.
