For a simple prerecorded-video loop on YouTube Live, OBS on a VPS is usually the more direct option to evaluate. OBS can loop a local file or playlist while encoding directly to YouTube. AWS Elemental MediaLive is a managed cloud encoding service that can support a more elaborate broadcast workflow; it is not a desktop app you install on a VPS. An Indian server is not established as necessary or inherently better for this setup.
What each option does
OBS on a VPS
OBS can handle both the media playback loop and the encode-and-send job. You install and configure OBS on a VPS, provide a video source, set output encoding, and connect OBS to your YouTube stream. You remain responsible for the host, OBS configuration, restarts, and monitoring. The exact setup depends on the VPS provider and its available CPU or GPU encoding capabilities.

MediaLive is AWS’s managed, broadcast-grade live video processing service. How looping a video works in OBS
The loop is a property of the media source in OBS, separate from the streaming connection and encoding settings.

Loop one local video
- Install OBS on the VPS and open the scene you intend to stream.
- Add a Media Source to the scene and select the video file available on the VPS.
- Enable the source’s Loop option. OBS will replay that file when playback reaches its end.
- Set the scene’s output canvas and stream settings for your target resolution and frame rate, then connect OBS to YouTube using the stream details from YouTube Studio.
- Start the stream and confirm in YouTube Studio that it is receiving video and audio as expected.
Loop a playlist
- Install VLC on the VPS; OBS’s VLC Video source is available when VLC is installed.
- Add a VLC Video source in OBS and add the local files to its playlist.
- Use the source’s Loop Playlist setting. OBS documentation says it is enabled by default.
- Check the playlist order, audio, and transitions in the scene before starting the YouTube stream.

AWS’s example sends an OBS contribution feed to MediaLive and then MediaPackage. Its guide warns that the single OBS input in that example does not provide the two inputs used for MediaLive’s redundancy model. Choosing and checking an Indian VPS
The fact that a VPS is located in India does not by itself establish that it can encode your chosen stream reliably. No particular Indian provider, sustained encoding benchmark, or regional performance advantage is established here. Check the actual plan and test the intended workload before relying on it for a continuous channel.

- Encoding capacity: Confirm that the VPS has a usable encoder for your OBS settings, including any hardware encoder you intend to use. A nominally compatible system may still be insufficient.

- Sustained network capacity: Verify the provider’s bandwidth and traffic or egress terms against the stream you plan to send, and check whether limits or extra charges apply.
- Recovery and monitoring: Decide how you will detect a stopped OBS process or dropped connection, restart it, and verify the stream in YouTube Studio. A VPS alone does not establish a recovery design.
- File access and storage: Ensure the video files and playlists remain available to OBS after restarts and fit within the host’s storage allowance.
Costs and billing behavior
A generic monthly VPS price is not comparable to an unspecified MediaLive configuration. A useful comparison requires a current quote for the VPS resources, traffic allowance, and any egress fees, alongside a MediaLive estimate using the intended channel configuration and resource state.

Encoder choice does not grant rights to the video or music, nor does it settle YouTube’s rules for continuous prerecorded content, monetization, or channel eligibility. Troubleshooting an OBS VPS stream
OBS reports encoding lag or the stream is unstable

The file stops instead of repeating
Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist, confirm the files are in the VLC Video source and Loop Playlist is enabled; VLC must be installed for that source to appear.

YouTube is not receiving the OBS stream
Check that OBS is using the current stream details shown by YouTube Studio, that the intended scene is active, and that the VPS has working outbound connectivity. Confirm stream status in YouTube Studio rather than assuming a successful OBS start means YouTube is receiving the feed.
The stream stops after a host restart or disconnection
Check whether OBS restarted and whether the VPS reconnected to the network. Configure and verify the host-level process recovery and monitoring you need; the exact controls depend on the operating system and provider, neither of which is specified by the comparison.
