Its live charges are based on gigabytes ingested and gigabytes originated and packaged. AWS lists a MediaPackage V1 live endpoint in Mumbai (ap-south-1), but the published worked example is for US East (N. Virginia), not India; the available information does not establish a current Mumbai rate or a tax-inclusive monthly total. AWS’s pricing page and the workload inputs are needed to build a responsible estimate.
How MediaPackage charges for a live stream
For live video, MediaPackage meters two main volumes: the video streams it receives and the content it originates and packages for delivery. A 24/7 service therefore has no universal “channel price”; its bill varies with stream configuration and delivery workload. AWS describes the pricing model and its example assumptions here.
Live ingest
Ingest volume increases with the combined bitrate of the inputs MediaPackage receives. Count every rendition and any redundant input stream. More inputs or higher bitrates mean more data ingested over the same operating hours.
Origination and packaging
Origination and packaging charges track the content volume delivered from MediaPackage to a CDN. This is not necessarily the same as all viewer traffic: CDN cache hits mean fewer requests need to be fetched from MediaPackage. AWS recommends CloudFront caching as a way to reduce the volume originated and packaged.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Other services can add cost
MediaPackage may be one component of a larger live-video design. Encoding, CDN delivery, and data transfer can incur separate charges. AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide shows a broader architecture with separate services and costs; its assumptions are not a quote for a particular channel, audience, or region.
What is known about India and the Mumbai region
AWS’s MediaPackage V1 endpoint and quota reference lists a live endpoint in Asia Pacific (Mumbai), region code ap-south-1. That establishes regional endpoint availability, not the current applicable Mumbai rates, your account’s billing currency, taxes, or the final invoice. Confirm the service generation and current price for the selected region using the AWS MediaPackage pricing page and AWS Pricing Calculator.

Do not treat AWS’s US East example as an India quote. Regional rates and the design’s other services must be checked for the actual workload.
AWS’s published 24/7 example—and why it is not an India estimate
AWS’s pricing page gives an illustrative live-linear example for US East (N. Virginia). Its assumptions are two ingested channel inputs, five renditions with a combined bitrate of 9.5 Mbps, average viewed bitrate of 2 Mbps, average viewership of 1,000 viewers per hour, and a 97.5% CDN cache-hit ratio. AWS calculates 4.175 GB per hour for the rendition set and 21.97 GB per hour originated after caching, producing an estimated combined ingest and origination/packaging cost of $1.3505 per hour at the rates used in that US example. AWS does not state a year for the example on the pricing page.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Those figures illustrate how the calculation works; they are not a forecast for India or for a different audience and configuration. A different channel may have different rendition bitrates, redundant inputs, average viewer bitrate, viewership, cache-hit ratio, region, service generation, and regional rates. AWS also notes that delivery outside AWS, or through a CDN other than CloudFront, can involve additional internet data-transfer charges; check the applicable route and billing details for your design.

- MediaPackage generation and region: confirm whether the design uses V1 or V2 and select the actual AWS region, such as Mumbai (ap-south-1).
- Ingest configuration: list each input rendition’s bitrate, the number of inputs, and whether redundant inputs are active.
- Operating hours: estimate how many hours the stream will run in the billing period.
- Viewer delivery: estimate average viewing bitrate, audience concurrency or viewership, and CDN cache-hit ratio.
- Related services: include any MediaLive inputs or outputs, CDN charges, data transfer, and applicable add-ons.
- Billing assumptions: verify the account’s billing currency and whether taxes are included in the total you need.
Without these inputs and a verified current regional rate, a single monthly figure would imply more precision than the available facts support.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need MediaPackage to send a continuous stream to YouTube?
Not necessarily. YouTube’s standard encoder workflow sends video to YouTube Live using the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS as a secure option and says it automatically transcodes incoming live video into viewer output formats. Its documentation does not make MediaPackage a required step in this direct encoder-to-YouTube workflow. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions, recommended encoder settings, and RTMPS guidance.

MediaPackage is an origin and packaging service for players and downstream CDNs. It may fit a separate playback or delivery architecture, but a channel that simply sends an encoder feed to YouTube should not assume it needs MediaPackage. AWS also lists MediaLive among encoder services verified by YouTube in the surfaced help material; that does not make MediaPackage necessary for direct YouTube ingest.
Compare the two architectures before choosing
| Question | Direct encoder to YouTube | AWS origin and CDN architecture |
|---|---|---|
| Is MediaPackage required? | YouTube’s documented encoder flow uses its server URL and stream key; MediaPackage is not established as a required step. | Consider MediaPackage when the design needs its origin and packaging role for players or downstream CDNs. |
| What drives the relevant costs? | Price the encoding or production approach and network path for the chosen setup; the available sources do not establish a comparable total. | Include MediaPackage ingest and origination/packaging, plus encoding, CDN delivery, and any applicable data-transfer charges. |
| What workload details matter? | Encoder settings, stream continuity, and the network path to YouTube. | Input rendition bitrates and redundancy; audience bitrate and volume; cache-hit ratio; region; current rates; and the services used. |
| Can the options be compared with a single price here? | No. An apples-to-apples total requires the actual workload and verified regional rates for the selected design. | |
