The AYANEO FLIP 1S is not a new Indiegogo launch anymore. AYANEO introduced the Windows clamshell handhelds on July 10, 2025, and reported on March 27, 2026, that the remaining Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 crowdfunding orders had shipped. As checked on August 18, 2026, the official store listed both models as sold out: the FLIP 1S DS at $1,499 and the FLIP 1S KB at $1,479.
The FLIP 1S DS replaces a conventional lower deck with a 4.5-inch touchscreen, while the FLIP 1S KB uses that space for a compact RGB keyboard. The DS is the more interesting choice for dual-screen emulation and multitasking; the KB is better for short-form typing, chat and shortcuts. Neither should be treated as a current bargain, particularly because the listed prices exclude taxes and customs duties.

What is the AYANEO FLIP 1S?
The FLIP 1S is a Windows handheld gaming PC built into a hinged clamshell body. Instead of exposing its display and controls like a Steam Deck-style handheld, it closes like a small laptop or Nintendo DS, protecting the screen during transport.

There are two separate hardware designs:

FLIP 1S DS versus FLIP 1S KB
Choose the FLIP 1S DS for a real second-screen use case
The DS model is the more distinctive of the two. Its lower 4.5-inch, 1080p IPS panel has a 3:2 aspect ratio and can display a second application, game map, strategy guide, chat window or performance monitor. It also creates a natural layout for Nintendo DS-style emulation.
That does not mean Windows games automatically understand the second display. Ordinary software may need to be arranged manually, while emulators require their own screen-routing and input configuration. The DS model makes most sense when the buyer already knows how the second screen will be used.
Choose the FLIP 1S KB for compact input
The KB version replaces the lower screen with a small RGB keyboard. It can be useful for entering short messages, using launcher shortcuts, chatting in multiplayer games, navigating Windows or making occasional edits without carrying a separate keyboard.

A handheld keyboard can be convenient for brief input, but its size and layout make it a poor substitute for sustained typing unless independent testing proves otherwise.
Display specifications
According to AYANEO, both models have a 7-inch 1920×1080 OLED main display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The company claims up to 800 nits of brightness, 150% sRGB coverage, 10-bit color and HDR software support. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.
A 144Hz panel can make supported games and Windows navigation feel more responsive, but it does not make a demanding game run at 144 frames per second. Actual performance depends on the processor, power limit, cooling, memory, resolution and game settings. At handheld power levels, many modern games will not fully exploit the panel’s maximum refresh rate.
Only the DS model adds the secondary display: a 4.5-inch 1080p IPS touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio. The KB model remains a single-screen handheld with a built-in keyboard.

Ryzen 7 8840U or Ryzen AI 9 HX 370?
AYANEO offered the FLIP 1S with either the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U or the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
- Ryzen 7 8840U: The lower-cost configuration and the entry point for the original campaign.
- Ryzen AI 9 HX 370: The performance-oriented option. AYANEO describes it as a 12-core, 24-thread Zen 5 processor with Radeon 890M integrated graphics and a 50-TOPS NPU.
The HX 370’s integrated Radeon graphics are not equivalent to a discrete gaming GPU. Its practical advantage varies with thermal limits, memory configuration, power mode and the software being run. AYANEO’s processor and graphics claims should not be converted into specific frame-rate expectations without independent testing.
Controls, ports and chassis features
AYANEO lists the following features for the FLIP 1S family:
- TMR electromagnetic joysticks with a claimed 4,096 levels of resolution
- Claimed 1ms response latency and 1,000Hz polling rate for the joysticks
- Linear Hall-effect triggers
- Two USB4 ports supporting charging, DisplayPort output and high-speed data
- Bypass charging
- Vapor-chamber cooling
- Dual X-axis linear motors
- AYANEO HyperSound stereo speakers
- A stepless hinge adjustable from 0 to 180 degrees
- A CNC-machined metal top shell
Terms such as “professional-grade” controls, improved durability and better heat management are manufacturer positioning unless independently tested. The same applies to the latency, polling, brightness and cooling claims.
AYASpace 3.0 and the second screen
AYANEO says AYASpace 3.0 provides quick settings, F-key customization, a “Snowfield” true-pause function, dual-screen controls, window-management tools, virtual keyboard and trackpad functions, and secondary-screen monitoring.
There are three different layers to understand:
- Windows display support: Windows can treat connected panels as extended displays and lets users move ordinary windows between them.
- AYASpace conveniences: AYASpace can add shortcuts and device-management features, but the experience depends on AYANEO’s software and its continuing support.
- Emulator configuration: DS and other multi-screen emulation generally requires the emulator to be configured correctly. It is not guaranteed to work automatically in every title.
The second screen is therefore a useful hardware feature, not a universal compatibility layer. Buyers should expect some setup and troubleshooting.
Original Indiegogo pricing versus current listings
AYANEO’s July 2025 launch announcement gave starting prices of $799 for the FLIP 1S DS and $779 for the FLIP 1S KB. PC Gamer reported that the entry configurations used the Ryzen 7 8840U with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Higher configurations reached approximately $1,559 for the DS and $1,539 for the KB, depending on processor, memory, storage and color.

Those campaign prices are historical. They should not be presented as current deals.
On August 18, 2026, AYANEO’s official store showed the following:

Store pricing and stock can change. Both product pages also state that taxes and customs duties are not included, and shipping is calculated at checkout.
What happened to the Indiegogo campaign?
The FLIP 1S campaign was a July 2025 crowdfunding launch, not a fresh buying opportunity in 2026. In an Indiegogo fulfillment update dated March 27, 2026, AYANEO said all remaining Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 crowdfunding orders had shipped. It separately said that three 8840U backers remained and were offered exchange, refund or paid-upgrade options.
That status matters for two reasons. A campaign page can remain online after its main fulfillment phase, and a listed reward does not necessarily mean immediate retail stock. New buyers should check the campaign page, official store and any reseller listing separately before paying.
Taxes, customs and the real purchase price
The advertised dollar figure is not necessarily the landed price. AYANEO’s store warns that taxes and customs duties are excluded. The Indiegogo FAQ also says final payment does not include import tariffs and warns that local customs costs may apply.
Customs treatment varies by country, carrier, product classification and policy changes. There is no responsible universal tariff percentage to apply to every buyer. Before comparing the FLIP 1S with a domestically sold handheld, calculate:

- shipping;
- sales tax or VAT;
- possible customs duties or brokerage fees; and
- the cost and difficulty of returning an imported device.
The Indiegogo FAQ says that if a shipment is returned because customs duties were not paid, shipping costs may not be refunded. It also says AYANEO provides worldwide shipping but reserves the right to cancel and refund orders where delivery is not possible.
Warranty, returns and crowdfunding risk
The buying route affects the practical risk. An Indiegogo contribution is different from an ordinary retail purchase, and an official-store order is different again from a marketplace sale.

Before ordering, confirm:
- who the legal seller is;
- which warranty applies to your country;
- where repairs or returns must be shipped;
- who pays return shipping and customs charges;
- whether the listed configuration is actually in stock; and
- how refunds are handled if a shipment cannot be delivered.
Crowdfunding can involve changing delivery dates, configuration substitutions and more limited cancellation or consumer-protection options than normal retail. The available campaign information documents shipping and customs policies, but it does not establish a complete independent verdict on AYANEO’s support quality or long-term reliability.
Which model is right for you?
Buy the DS if you want:
- dual-screen gaming or emulation;
- a second display for maps, guides, chat or system monitoring;
- a clamshell layout inspired by the Nintendo DS; and
- a device you are willing to configure and troubleshoot.
Buy the KB if you want:
- a built-in input device for short messages and shortcuts;
- easier text entry than a touchscreen keyboard;
- a conventional single-screen gaming layout; and
- light Windows productivity rather than sustained office work.
Main trade-offs
Price: The FLIP 1S is expensive compared with mainstream handheld PCs, particularly in HX 370 configurations. Its current official-store listings were also sold out when checked.
Portability: The clamshell protects the display when closed, but the hinge, cooling hardware and either a second screen or keyboard make the design more complex than a conventional handheld. Exact weight and dimensions should be verified from the current product page rather than assumed.
Windows friction: Windows provides broad game and application compatibility, but it is less console-like than SteamOS or a dedicated gaming operating system. The DS adds display and emulator setup; the KB adds compact-keyboard layout considerations.

Keyboard value: The KB is useful for compact input, but it should not be evaluated as a full laptop keyboard without independent typing tests.
Alternatives to consider
If the FLIP 1S is unavailable or too expensive, the right alternative depends on the feature you actually want:
- Mainstream Windows handheld PCs: Better for conventional retail availability, simpler single-screen gaming and broader accessory ecosystems, but they generally lack the FLIP’s clamshell design and integrated second screen or keyboard.
- SteamOS or console-style handhelds: Better for a console-like interface and lower setup friction, but less suitable if native Windows software, a second display or a built-in keyboard is essential.
- Android dual-screen handhelds: Better suited to retro-focused buyers who primarily want DS-style emulation, but not to people who need full Windows game and desktop compatibility.
Alternative prices and current stock should be checked separately; they are not included here as fixed comparisons.
Verdict
The AYANEO FLIP 1S remains an unusual pair of handheld PCs rather than a straightforward value purchase. Choose the FLIP 1S DS when dual-screen gaming, emulation or multitasking is the point of the purchase. Choose the FLIP 1S KB when compact text input and shortcuts matter more than a second display.
For everyone else, a conventional Windows or console-style handheld is likely to be simpler and easier to buy. The original $779 and $799 Indiegogo prices are historical, the current official listings were sold out at $1,479 and $1,499 when checked, and import costs can raise the final price further.
