That is a meaningful change in sales channel, but not a promise of immediate dispatch: AYANEO described the launch as a preorder with limited initial quantities. The compact Android handheld starts at $319 on the official store, and production units have a 4700mAh battery—not the 6000mAh originally planned.
What “skips crowdfunding” means for buyers
Instead of collecting pledges through Indiegogo or another crowdfunding platform, AYANEO offered the Pocket S Mini through its own online store. The distinction matters, but it does not make every order an in-stock retail purchase. AYANEO said preorders were open, initial quantities were limited, and orders would be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. Availability can depend on the selected configuration and color, so check the product page before paying.
In practical terms, AYANEO moved this launch to a direct-store preorder and retail model. Buyers avoid a crowdfunding campaign, but can still face limited inventory and a wait for fulfillment.
Why AYANEO is trying a different launch model
The Pocket S Mini is an early example of AYANEO’s 2026 Service Improvement Plan. The company acknowledged that it had often relied on crowdfunding as a smaller, fast-growing manufacturer, while its cross-regional service infrastructure had not kept pace with its product output. The plan calls for more products to be sold as direct-store stock or preorders, tighter delivery controls for crowdfunding projects, and clearer updates. AYANEO’s service-plan announcement also followed complaints and outstanding fulfillment issues involving products including Pocket FIT, Pocket DS, FLIP 1S, and Pocket AIR Mini.

This is a customer-service response and an operational experiment, not a permanent end to crowdfunding. AYANEO said it would continue using crowdfunding in some cases, while aiming to improve timelines and communication. The plan is a company commitment; by itself, it does not prove that future fulfillment will be more reliable.
What the Pocket S Mini offers
The Pocket S Mini is a compact Android gaming handheld built around a 4:3 screen and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Gaming Platform. AYANEO lists these headline specifications in its launch announcement:

Why the 4:3 screen is the defining feature
Many classic console and arcade games use screen shapes closer to 4:3 than to modern widescreen. On a 4:3 panel, those games can use more of the display instead of leaving wide unused areas at the sides. The 1280 × 960 resolution also allows a clean four-times scale for 320 × 240 content, though not every older system or game uses that resolution or scales identically.

The trade-off is just as important: widescreen Android games, video, and streaming content will not fill this screen as naturally as they would on a 16:9 handheld. AYANEO markets the panel for “pixel-perfect” retro presentation; treat that as positioning, not an independent test result. If most of your play is widescreen, the 4:3 format may be a compromise rather than an advantage.

What the chip does—and does not—tell you
The G3x Gen 2, active cooling, and up to 16GB of RAM position the Pocket S Mini above budget Android retro handhelds in hardware ambition. They suggest more headroom for demanding Android games and emulation, but specifications alone do not establish particular games’ frame rates or which systems will run well.
The cited launch materials do not establish real-world battery life, sustained performance, fan noise, input latency, or emulator compatibility. Do not treat “powerful” as a guarantee that every emulator or game will run smoothly.

Configurations, launch pricing, and ordering costs
Launch coverage reported the following early-bird prices for the three configurations. AYANEO’s store confirms a $319 starting price and exposes all three memory and storage selections; the higher-tier prices below are launch-period figures, not a guarantee of current pricing. Android Authority’s launch coverage reported the early-bird offers, while the official store listing shows the current product options.

The official store says shipping is calculated at checkout and taxes and duties are not included. The displayed price is therefore not necessarily the final amount, particularly for international buyers. AYANEO also promised preorder customers an exclusive gift bundle; launch coverage described a carry case, joystick caps, retro-gaming stickers, and a cleaning cloth. Confirm whether that offer still applies to your order.
The battery changed before mass production
The most consequential qualification is the battery. AYANEO initially designed the Pocket S Mini around a 6000mAh battery, but production units shipped with 4700mAh cells. In its battery announcement, AYANEO said development units had used a 4700mAh test battery and a supplier-communication failure led to that capacity being used in mass production. The issue was discovered after shipments had begun.

AYANEO said it chose not to hold production for a new 6000mAh battery, which it said would push delivery toward Q3 2026. The company said all units would ship with 4700mAh and that it would not produce a 6000mAh version. The Pocket S Mini to buy is therefore a 4700mAh model; the 6000mAh figure describes the original plan, not a production option.
AYANEO’s announced compensation
- AYANEO offered one Pocket AIR Mini with each Pocket S Mini purchased. The default gift configuration is 2GB RAM and 32GB storage; buyers could pay $10 to upgrade it to 3GB RAM and 64GB.
- For orders placed before February 2, 2026, AYANEO said dissatisfied customers could request a full refund plus a $20 universal store voucher.
- AYANEO also said newly placed orders qualified for the compensation policy, subject to the promotion’s availability.
The Pocket AIR Mini is compensation for the battery discrepancy, not a standard indicator of the Pocket S Mini’s battery capacity or equivalent cash value. Because the offer can change, confirm current eligibility and the terms directly before ordering.

It changes where some risks sit; it does not remove them. A direct-store order avoids a crowdfunding campaign and its campaign-specific fulfillment queue. AYANEO also said it aimed for simultaneous launches in China and overseas markets, evenly allocated initial production between domestic and international markets, and aligned shipping windows. Those were company commitments, not independent confirmation that every market received stock or shipped on the same schedule.

The battery error also demonstrates that a direct-store launch cannot prevent specification-control or manufacturing problems. The service plan itself acknowledges earlier delays and unresolved fulfillment concerns. For an international order, the store’s shipping, tax, and duty terms affect the landed cost, while support and return logistics may matter as much as the order channel.
Payment protections and consumer rights depend on your country and payment method, so it would be misleading to say that direct-store ordering is universally more or less protected than crowdfunding. Before payment, check the current warranty and return terms for your location, and confirm the selected SKU’s stock or preorder status.

- Read the warranty and returns terms that apply in your country before paying.
- Make sure 4:3 suits your main use, especially if you mostly play widescreen games or watch video.
