If Backrooms: Escape Together crashes on your Windows PC, start by updating the game, then match the crash timing to the game’s documented issues. The eight checks below distinguish known game-specific cases from general Steam and PC troubleshooting; none is a guaranteed fix for every crash.
1. Update Backrooms: Escape Together
Install the latest available game update through Steam before changing system settings. Triiodide Studios’ patch notes document fixes for several specific crashes and describe stability improvements, so an outdated build may already have a known issue addressed. See the developer’s Steam announcements.
2. Check your PC against the game’s requirements
Steam’s current listing specifies these Windows requirements. They are a compatibility reference, not proof that a PC below the recommended tier will crash or that meeting the recommended tier guarantees stability. Check the live Steam listing, since requirements can change.

Compare your actual CPU, GPU, installed RAM, Windows edition, and free storage with the listing. Treat a mismatch as a clue to investigate, not an automatic reason to buy hardware.

3. Update your graphics driver
Steam says the game requires the latest AMD and NVIDIA drivers and specifically calls for AMD’s latest optional drivers. Check the current driver guidance for your exact GPU on its manufacturer’s site, and consult Steam’s live listing for the game’s current wording. Driver releases change, so avoid relying on an old version number as a universal recommendation.
4. Check the AMD ray-tracing issue if it matches your setup
Triiodide Studios documented a crash at startup or during play involving AMD 7000- and 9000-series GPUs with Adrenalin driver 25 or newer. The game update notes say the fix disabled Enhanced Raytracing for that combination. Update the game first and use the supported configuration; do not assume every AMD GPU has this issue.

The same historical note mentioned Adrenalin 24.12.1 as a way to use hardware ray tracing without crashing at that time. That is dated advice, not a current general driver-downgrade recommendation. Review the developer’s update notes for the relevant details.
5. Check for the Intel CPU loading-crash fix
If the game crashes while loading and your system has an affected 13th- or 14th-generation Intel CPU, install the current game update before trying risky system changes. The BET 0.13.3 notes, dated 31 December 2025, say the update “Fixed Persistent Crash During Game Load if On an Affected 13th/14th Gen Intel CPU.” They also note an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.7 and stability improvements. The cited fix is for the affected loading-crash scenario, not every crash on those processors. Read the BET 0.13.3 update notes.

6. Verify the installed game files in Steam
Steam’s file-integrity check is a general launcher diagnostic. The game’s cited developer notes do not establish it as a confirmed fix for this title, but it can help check whether the local installation has missing or damaged files.
- Open your Steam Library.
- Right-click Backrooms: Escape Together and select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and let Steam finish the check.
If Steam replaces or reacquires files, let that process complete before launching the game again.

7. Match the crash to co-op, lobby, or network activity
Note whether the crash occurs when connecting to BET servers, joining a lobby, leaving while a world is generating, using voice chat to join a lobby, or generating a level during unstable network conditions. Developer notes describe fixes or crash cases in these situations, including a rare voice-chat crash and crashes under extreme network instability. These are useful comparisons for narrowing down a report, not proof that any one condition caused your crash.
If the timing points to multiplayer, record whether teammates crash too and retest only when your connection is stable. A crash that happens at the same point for multiple players is useful evidence to include when reporting the issue.

8. Send the developer a report they can investigate
If the checks above do not identify the cause, report the crash through the game’s official Discord bugs channel or contact the support address listed on Steam. The official game website directs players to the Discord bug-report channel; Steam lists [email protected].
Include these details so the report distinguishes a loading, GPU, voice-chat, server, or network failure:
