BADLAND: Game of the Year Edition is worth considering if you enjoy atmospheric side-scrolling platformers, physics-based obstacles and local multiplayer. Its Steam listing describes a substantial package of solo, co-op and battle levels, but the storefront ratings are user snapshots—not critic scores or a substitute for checking whether the controls and platform edition suit you.
What kind of game is BADLAND?
Frogmind describes BADLAND as an atmospheric, side-scrolling action-adventure platformer set in a forest. You guide a small creature through traps, puzzles and other obstacles using physics-based gameplay. The appeal is in navigating hazardous environments and reacting to what the game puts in your path, rather than in a storefront rating alone. Steam’s product listing identifies Frogmind as both developer and publisher.
The Game of the Year Edition arrived on Steam on May 26, 2015. Steam says that version was redesigned for the platform, with enhanced above-Full-HD visuals and redesigned controls. It also lists full game-controller support. Those are Steam edition claims, not evidence that every platform has identical presentation or controls.
What is included in the Steam Game of the Year Edition?
Frogmind’s Steam listing describes three sets of levels and local multiplayer for up to four players:

| Mode | Levels listed by Frogmind on Steam | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Single-player | 100 | For playing alone. |
| Co-op multiplayer | 100 | Steam lists local co-op. |
| Battle | 27 | Steam lists local battle multiplayer. |
These are the counts presented on the Steam product page; they have not been independently verified here. The listing specifies local play, so do not assume it means online matchmaking or online co-op. Up to four players can share local multiplayer, according to Steam.
What do the reviews say?
Steam user reviews
Steam’s listing showed 81% positive from 663 English-language user reviews when retrieved in 2026, with an “Very Positive” label displayed in the listing snapshot. Steam also showed 82% positive from 17 recent reviews in a separate result snapshot. These are changing user-review figures, not critic-review scores; check the current Steam listing for the latest totals.
The Steam page also reproduces short critic excerpts, including GamingTrend’s “The multiplayer mode is fantastic.” That wording is attributed here to the excerpt as reproduced on Steam, rather than to an independently checked original review.
Apple’s rating is for the mobile app
Apple’s US App Store listing showed BADLAND at 4.7/5 from 1.9K ratings when retrieved in 2026. That rating belongs to the BADLAND app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, not specifically to the separately titled Game of the Year Edition for PC or consoles. It is a distinct storefront audience and should not be combined with Steam’s score. Apple’s BADLAND listing also repeats a promotional claim of “Over 100 MILLION players and counting!”; that is a store-page claim, not an independently audited audience figure.

Which platforms can you play it on?
Official storefront listings identify versions for Steam, PlayStation platforms, Nintendo Switch and Apple devices. Availability can vary by region, and platform-specific listings do not establish that every version contains the same features.
| Platform | What the official listing establishes |
|---|---|
| Steam | BADLAND: Game of the Year Edition for Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux is listed on Steam. The page describes redesigned controls, enhanced above-Full-HD visuals, full controller support and the level counts above. |
| PlayStation | The PlayStation Store listing describes editions for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita, with new analog-stick controls and enhanced Full-HD visuals. |
| Nintendo Switch | A Switch version is listed in the Nintendo eShop. |
| Apple devices | Apple lists the BADLAND app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV in the App Store; it is not labeled as the GOTY edition. |
Choose based on the platform you already use, your preference for touch, keyboard or controller input, and whether local multiplayer matters. Steam explicitly lists controller support and local multiplayer for up to four; the PlayStation description specifically mentions analog-stick controls. Confirm the current regional store listing before buying.
Will the PC version run on your computer?
Steam lists requirements for Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux. The product page also notes that the Steam client requires Windows 10 or later beginning January 1, 2024. As a result, older minimum requirements for the game itself do not guarantee that the current Steam client will work on an older Windows installation. Check the system-requirements section of the Steam page against your operating system before purchasing.
Is the Steam Deluxe Edition a different game?
In a Steam storefront snapshot, the base game was listed at $9.99 and a Deluxe Edition bundle at $11.99, with a digital art book and soundtrack included. Those are captured prices, not durable current prices; the bundle contents and regional prices should be checked on Steam at purchase time. The listing describes the Deluxe extras as art book and soundtrack, not additional gameplay levels.

Quick Recap
Who is most likely to enjoy it?
- Consider it if atmospheric side-scrolling, obstacle-focused physics gameplay and puzzles appeal to you.
- Consider it for a group if you can play locally and want co-op or battle modes; Steam lists support for up to four local players.
- Check carefully first if you need online multiplayer, identical features across platforms, or compatibility with an older PC. Those details should not be inferred from the general store descriptions.
- Compare the right rating for the edition you plan to buy: Steam reviews concern the GOTY edition on Steam, while Apple’s rating concerns its mobile app.
