Six Flags Great Adventure has begun assembling the trains for Bakunawa, its planned 2027 coaster. In an October 5, 2026 report, Amusement Today said nine of the ride’s 10 cars were in assembly and the remaining car was complete and on site. Putting the trains on the track and testing them are still ahead.
What the construction milestone means
Each Bakunawa car consists of a ride chassis topped with a fully assembled seat gondola. The park’s ride mechanics and ride electricians are carrying out the assembly, which the October 5 report said takes about one week per car. The report did not say that train installation or testing had begun.

Once assembly is complete, the planned sequence is to put the trains on the track and then conduct testing. That makes this a vehicle-assembly milestone—not confirmation that the coaster is ready to operate.
How many cars and trains will Bakunawa have?
The October 5 report said Bakunawa has 10 cars in total: nine were being assembled, while the tenth was already complete and on site. The completed ride is planned to use two five-car trains, described as green and purple. Six Flags’ park page lists two trains with capacity for 20 passengers each.

What is known about Bakunawa’s planned ride?
Six Flags Great Adventure’s official page lists these specifications and plans for Bakunawa. They are park-published figures, not independently tested measurements:
- Height: 382 feet
- Speed: 100 mph
- Ride experience length: 3,163 feet
- Total ride cycle: 2 minutes, 17 seconds
- Minimum height: 48 inches
- Train configuration: two trains, 20 passengers each
- Launches: three, described by the park as accelerating from 0 to 60 mph, from 60 to 80 mph while inverted, and from 80 to 100 mph
The park lists 2027 as Bakunawa’s planned opening year. It also promotes six record or first claims for the coaster; those should be understood as Six Flags’ claims, not independently verified records.
When will Bakunawa open?
Six Flags currently lists Bakunawa for 2027. The October assembly report does not give a specific opening date, and the construction milestone alone does not establish when installation, testing, or opening readiness will be complete.
