Balatro Multiplayer is a community-made mod for competing with other players—not an official multiplayer mode built into Balatro. The project recommends its launcher for installation; the game’s reported 1.1 teasers, meanwhile, concern the base game and are not a roadmap for the mod.
What Balatro Multiplayer is—and isn’t
The project describes itself as “A multiplayer mod for Balatro, allowing players to compete with each other.” Its repository documents lobby creation and code-based joining. It is separate from the base game, and the mod should not be confused with an official multiplayer feature.

Install the mod with the official launcher
The project’s installation guide recommends the Balatro Multiplayer Launcher, with downloads for Windows, Mac, and Linux. According to the guide, the launcher installs the required Lovely and Steamodded dependencies, downloads the selected Multiplayer version, and lets you switch versions, including tournament or experimental builds. Follow the live instructions and download from the project’s installation page rather than relying on old version-specific steps.

- Download the latest Multiplayer release from the project’s releases.
- Unzip
Multiplayer.zipand place the resulting folder in Balatro’sModsfolder, as described in the Steamodded instructions.
The repository lists minimum requirements of Steamodded 1.0.0~BETA-1620a and Lovely Injector 0.9. These compatibility requirements can change, so confirm the current versions in the official installation guide and repository before installing. The release listing captured for this article labels v0.5.5 as latest and dates it August 14; the year is not stated in the supplied listing, so check the live releases page for the current version.
Create or join a multiplayer lobby
The repository’s documented quick-start flow is:
- Launch Balatro with the Multiplayer mod enabled.
- Choose Play, then Create Lobby, and select a ruleset or game mode.
- Choose View Code and share the lobby code with the other player.
- The other player chooses Play, then Join Lobby, and enters the code.
- Press Start to begin.

What the future teasers actually refer to
September 2026 coverage by PC Gamer reported that Balatro creator LocalThunk had shared details about the base game’s 1.1 update in the official Balatro Discord, including at least four new Jokers. The report said no release date had been announced and that the developer indicated Balatro would not get an official multiplayer mode. This is secondary reporting of Discord comments, not an official patch note or a promise about the Multiplayer mod.
No attributable primary-source roadmap or specific future-feature teasers for the Multiplayer mod are established here. Treat claims about upcoming mod features as unconfirmed unless the project itself announces them.

Ranked play and compatible mods
For ranked or queue play, the project says to use only mods on its approved list unless staff directs otherwise. The documentation’s listed count is 82 explicitly approved mods, but the list is maintained and can change. Check the current approved-mod documentation before joining ranked play.
