Microsoft’s June 9, 2024, showcase delivered the gameplay reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, not a game officially titled “Black Ops Gulf War.” The Xbox Games Showcase began at 10 a.m. PT, and a dedicated Black Ops 6 Direct followed immediately with a deeper look at the game.
What was the June 9 reveal?
The official title was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Call of Duty had confirmed that name on May 23, 2024, before announcing that the worldwide reveal would take place during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. The official announcements used “Black Ops 6,” not “Black Ops Gulf War.” The cited announcements do not establish where the “Gulf War” wording originated, so it should be treated as pre-reveal phrasing rather than the game’s official name. Call of Duty’s announcement and Blizzard’s announcement both identify the game as Black Ops 6.

When and where was it announced?
The Xbox Games Showcase was scheduled for Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. The dedicated Black Ops 6 Direct was set to air immediately afterward. Call of Duty’s June 6 update stated the schedule as: “Black Ops 6 Reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase, Sunday June 9th at 10 AM PT. Black Ops 6 Direct immediately following.” The announcement page also records the earlier May 23 title confirmation.
What did the showcase and Direct reveal?
Xbox’s June 9 recap confirms that the showcase included a gameplay reveal, followed by the dedicated Direct for a deeper look. Jerret West, then Xbox’s Chief Marketing Officer, described the sequence as a gameplay reveal followed by “an enormous deep-dive into the game.” The distinction matters: the showcase introduced gameplay, while the separate Direct was presented as the more detailed segment. In its June 2024 recap, Xbox described Black Ops 6 as a spy action thriller set in the early 1990s and named Treyarch and Raven Software as developers. It highlighted Omnimovement, Classic Prestige, Theater Mode and round-based Zombies. Xbox also listed an October 25, 2024 release date and these platforms:
