Major spoilers ahead. Use this region-by-region checklist to catch Act 1’s substantial quests, companions, secrets, and notable items before leaving. “Everything” depends on your route: choices, quest order, class, and dialogue or combat outcomes affect what is available. This is an exploration aid, not an official completion standard or a requirement to finish every stop.

Checked October 8, 2026. Larian said on April 15, 2025, “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” That describes the studio’s stated content-update status, not a promise that minor fixes cannot change details. Patch 8 included Act I fixes, so older walkthrough advice may not match every current item or quest interaction. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement and notes.

How to use this checklist

Check off the places and storylines that matter to your run; the list combines optional exploration, quests, companions, and unique items rather than defining a single 100% route. Before resolving a major quest, consider whether nearby entries depend on order or on keeping a character alive. The conditions below are reminders, not guarantees that every outcome can be collected in one playthrough.

  • Quest or reward availability: some opportunities can close as the story advances.
  • Companion or faction consequences: choices may affect who remains available or how a group responds.
  • Order and timing: resolve explicitly order-sensitive tasks before triggering the event that can cut them off.
  • Class and outcomes: some listed rewards depend on class, dialogue, or combat results.

Nautiloid and Ravaged Beach

  • ☐ Escape the Nautiloid and explore what you can before the opening sequence ends.
  • ☐ Find and free Shadowheart where possible.
  • ☐ Look for Us and decide whether to preserve it; the checklist consulted notes possible later relevance if it survives.
  • ☐ Inspect optional mind-related objects, including the Rune Slate, if you want to explore the ship’s secrets.
  • ☐ Search the Ravaged Beach and its nearby areas for companions and points of interest before heading inland.

Roadside Cliffs and Overgrown Ruins

  • ☐ Explore the Roadside Cliffs and Overgrown Ruins rather than moving straight to the Grove.
  • ☐ Search the ruins for the entrance and contents of the Apothecary’s Cellar in the Blighted Village when you reach it.

Emerald Grove and early Wilderness

  • ☐ Explore the Emerald Grove and speak with its key residents before committing to the main conflict.
  • ☐ Start Investigate Kagha and pursue it before rescuing Halsin if you want to preserve the opportunity described by the consulted checklist.
  • ☐ Complete Investigate the Beach while its opportunity remains available.
  • ☐ Treat Kagha-related outcomes as conditional: the checklist describes different possible rewards depending on whether Kagha survives and whether your character is a Druid. These are not all rewards available to every character or route.
  • ☐ Keep track of the refugee and goblin conflict before resolving it; decisions here can affect later access and faction outcomes.

Blighted Village and Apothecary’s Cellar

  • ☐ Search the Blighted Village, including the Apothecary’s Cellar, for its quest and secret content.
  • ☐ Decide what to do with the Necromancy of Thay. Reading it can lead to Speak with Dead and a Wisdom-save benefit, according to the consulted checklist; access and outcomes depend on your choices.
  • ☐ If pursuing the relevant scroll, consider whether to use it to obtain Shovel as a companion. This is a choice-specific opportunity, not an automatic reward for every run.

Risen Road and Waukeen’s Rest

  • ☐ Explore the Risen Road and follow its available quests before leaving the Wilderness.
  • ☐ Search Waukeen’s Rest and address its urgent situation before moving on; don’t assume it will wait indefinitely while you explore elsewhere.

Zhentarim Basement

  • ☐ Find the Zhentarim hideout and explore the basement, including its available conversations, quests, and goods.
  • ☐ Consider the consequences of how you approach the group before starting a fight or committing to a side.

Goblin Camp

  • ☐ Explore the Goblin Camp and its interior before resolving the refugee conflict.
  • ☐ Visit Abdirak and decide whether to take part in his ritual. The consulted checklist describes a permanent bonus from completing it; treat that as an optional, route-dependent opportunity rather than a guaranteed result.
  • ☐ Rescue Volo if you want to pursue his associated content. The consulted checklist says to rescue him before completing Save the Refugees for a listed reward; availability depends on order and outcome.
  • ☐ Check for any remaining prisoner or companion-related opportunities before concluding the camp storyline.

Sunlit Wetlands

  • ☐ Explore the Sunlit Wetlands and investigate its apparent dangers and available quest threads before leaving the surface regions.
  • ☐ Pay attention to dialogue and environmental clues: what seems obvious at first may not reflect the area’s full story.

Underdark

  • ☐ Reach and explore the Underdark; it is a substantial region, not merely a shortcut to another map.
  • ☐ Visit the Myconid Colony and follow its available quests and conversations.
  • ☐ Explore the Arcane Tower and its side areas for secrets and notable items.
  • ☐ Search other hidden and optional areas before moving toward Grymforge.
  • ☐ Investigate the ingredients and steps relevant to Help Omeluum Investigate the Parasite. Patch 8 changed Derryth Bonecloak’s item drop table in relation to the Timmask Spores and Tongue of Madness, so do not rely on old claims about exactly where those materials can be obtained. Patch 8 notes.

Grymforge

  • ☐ Explore Grymforge and address the duergar and Nere storyline before leaving the area.
  • ☐ Search for Mithral Ore if you want to use the Adamantine Forge; the ore is needed to craft Adamantine items.
  • ☐ Find and use the Adamantine Forge if pursuing its equipment and encounter. Treat it as an optional objective, not a prerequisite for progressing through Act 1.

Mountain Pass and Rosymorn Monastery Trail

  • ☐ Explore the Mountain Pass route and its available vendors, quests, and items.
  • ☐ Search the Rosymorn Monastery Trail rather than treating it as just a transition area.
  • ☐ Before advancing, consider whether you have outstanding Wilderness or Underdark objectives; the checklist is meant to help you choose, not to imply that every objective must be complete.

Crèche Y’llek

  • ☐ Visit Crèche Y’llek and explore its quests, vendors, and notable items.
  • ☐ Resolve the crèche storyline in the way that fits your character and party; its outcomes can depend on choices and confrontation.

Before you move on

Do one final pass through your journal and map: check unresolved quests, companions or prisoners you meant to find, and any region you have not explored. If you are unsure whether advancing will close an opportunity, finish the time-sensitive thread first or make a separate save before committing. The regions above are a practical sweep of the Nautiloid, Wilderness, Underdark, Grymforge, Mountain Pass, and Crèche—not a claim that one route can collect every reward.
