When can you recruit Halsin?
Halsin appears in Act One, but he does not become a full companion immediately. Keep him alive through the goblin and Grove outcomes, then advance the Shadow Curse quest in Act Two. Once he joins, he returns at level 1 with standard Druid ability scores. Build him from that companion starting point rather than assuming the level 5 bear you may have seen earlier is his permanent party state. What is the best Halsin build?
Circle of the Moon is a natural fit because it supports combat-focused Wild Shape, while the Druid spell list gives Halsin control, support, and elemental damage options. He does not need to stay transformed for every fight: use spells when controlling the battlefield is more valuable, then shift when the party needs pressure or durability.
A May 11, 2026 build guide recommends a Moon Druid frontline approach, but does not identify a patch version. Treat its stat and feat targets as practical recommendations, not game requirements or proof of an objectively optimal build. TheGamer’s Halsin build guide provides that advice.

Which ability scores and feats should you prioritize?
Wisdom strengthens Halsin’s spellcasting and should be the main ability to raise. Dexterity and Constitution support survivability, with Constitution also helping him maintain concentration while casting. One guide’s suggested targets are:

Should Halsin focus on Wild Shape or spells?
Choose based on what your party lacks and how often you expect Halsin to transform:
- Lean into Wild Shape when the party needs a character to absorb attacks, pressure priority enemies, or contribute on the frontline. Keep positioning deliberate so Halsin does not take avoidable focus before he is ready to transform.
- Lean into spells when another companion already provides frontline durability. Halsin can then spend more turns controlling enemy movement, supporting allies, or dealing elemental damage rather than duplicating the party’s tank.
- Balance both roles when the encounter benefits from an opening control spell followed by a durable attacker. This is the most adaptable general-purpose approach.
The available guide advice supports both a spell-forward controller and a Wild Shape-focused frontline role; it does not establish a numerical ranking between them.

Which Wild Shape forms should you use?
Halsin’s available forms expand as his Druid level rises. The BG3 Wiki lists these milestones; choose according to the encounter rather than treating any one form as universally best. Halsin also has Cave Bear as a unique form. The Wild Shape reference covers the forms and transformation details.

How should you handle equipment in Wild Shape?
Do not assume every item, feat, or class feature continues to work after Halsin transforms. Some equipment and abilities do not function in Wild Shape, so evaluate gear by the form in which he will spend most of a fight. If he casts in humanoid form before transforming, gear that benefits that spellcasting phase may still matter; if he stays transformed, prioritize effects that apply in that state. Check an item’s description and the Wild Shape rules before building around a bonus.

What is Halsin’s combat plan?
- Open with control when it is safe. Use a movement-control spell such as Entangle to constrain enemy positioning before the melee begins.
- Choose a useful position. Avoid exposing Halsin unnecessarily while enemies are still free to focus him.
- Transform when the role calls for it. Shift to absorb pressure or attack a priority target once the party benefits more from a frontline presence than another spell.
- Diagnose failed control spells. If enemies are not being controlled reliably, review Halsin’s Wisdom, protection for concentration, and casting position.
- Reassign his role if needed. If the party already has both a controller and a durable frontline character, use Halsin for the contribution it lacks instead of duplicating both jobs.
