“Baldur’s Gate 3 just got way better on consoles” could refer to two different Xbox changes. The major gameplay update was Patch 7 for Xbox Series X|S, released on 2 October 2024: it added official console mod support, 13 cinematic Evil Endings and dynamic split screen. A separate report dated 3 August 2026 said the game joined Xbox Play Anywhere, a change to where players can access it rather than an update to its gameplay.
What did Xbox Patch 7 add?
Larian’s Patch 7 rollout for Xbox Series X|S brought three notable changes: official mod availability on console, 13 new cinematic Evil Endings and a revised split-screen system for local co-op. These are Patch 7 features from 2024, not features introduced by the later Xbox Play Anywhere report.
Official console mod support
Patch 7 made official mods available on Xbox Series X|S. Larian’s Xbox Wire announcement links to the game’s Xbox listing, while Larian’s support index includes patch listings and mod-support topics. The announcement establishes that console mod support arrived with Patch 7; it does not establish that every mod is available on console or that console and PC mod libraries are identical.
13 cinematic Evil Endings
The update added 13 new cinematic endings for evil playthroughs, giving players additional outcomes to encounter as they make darker choices. The figure and feature are described in the Xbox Wire announcement; they are not a count of all endings in the game.

What did the August 2026 Xbox change do?
Windows Central reported on 3 August 2026 that Baldur’s Gate 3 had joined Xbox Play Anywhere. The report says the game could be accessed across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming and supported handhelds, and that an Xbox purchase meant players did not need to buy the game again for Windows PC. This is a platform-access change, not evidence of new quests, endings, mods or other gameplay content. Because those entitlement details come from secondary reporting, check current Microsoft or Larian terms for the applicable devices and account conditions; the report alone does not establish specific cross-device save behavior.

Windows Central also reported a 30% Xbox discount at the time of its 3 August 2026 article. That was a dated promotion, not a current price or a guarantee of an ongoing sale.

An Xbox update notification by itself does not identify what changed. The two documented releases above have different dates and purposes:

Did the console update improve performance?
