What “joining your party” means for Halsin
Finding Halsin at camp after Act One does not mean you can yet add him to your active party. He is initially a camp follower. His Act Two quest is what unlocks the opportunity for him to join as a companion; completing the Shadow Curse storyline makes that recruitment permanent. Rescue Halsin in Act One
Find him in the Worg Pens
After learning that Halsin is missing from the Druid Grove, go to the Goblin Camp’s Shattered Sanctum. Halsin is being held in bear form in the Worg Pens. Approaching the cages triggers the encounter. The Rescue the Druid Halsin quest page details this Act One sequence.
Free him and keep him alive
Deal with the goblins harassing Halsin, and make sure he survives. He can help you escape, but accepting his help makes the goblin camp hostile. If you still have other business in the camp, plan for that change before agreeing.

Resolve the grove and goblin situation
Advance the Act One story and resolve the relevant grove and goblin conflict with Halsin alive. He must agree to accompany the party toward the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Rescuing him by itself does not make him a selectable companion.
Unlock Halsin as a companion in Act Two
Start “Lift the Shadow Curse”
Once you reach the Shadow-Cursed Lands, speak with Halsin at camp about lifting the curse. Follow the lead involving Thaniel, including information from Art Cullagh at Last Light Inn. The Lift the Shadow Curse quest guide covers the quest’s objectives and failure conditions.

Protect the portal while Halsin searches for Thaniel
When Halsin enters the Shadowfell to retrieve Thaniel, defend the portal during the encounter. If the portal closes, Halsin is lost and you cannot complete the quest by this route.
Reunite Thaniel with Oliver
After Thaniel returns, find Oliver, his missing half, and convince him to reunite with Thaniel. Then check in with Halsin at camp. He will offer to join you for the rest of Act Two.

Make Halsin a permanent companion before leaving
Resolve “Lift the Shadow Curse” and defeat Ketheric Thorm before leaving the Shadow-Cursed Lands. If you leave the region without completing the quest, Halsin stays behind; the BG3 Wiki’s Halsin entry notes this consequence.

- He is present, but you cannot add him: Camp follower status is not the same as full companion status. Continue his Act Two quest.
- You rescued him, but nothing changed: Keep him alive, progress the grove and goblin storyline, and continue into Act Two.
- The portal encounter failed: If the portal closes, Halsin is lost and this quest route cannot be completed.
- You left the Shadow-Cursed Lands: If the curse quest was unfinished, Halsin stays behind.
For the Act One conflict, keep Halsin alive and resolve the grove and goblin situation in his favor.
