The danger is that Mizora interferes when Ravengard leaves his cell in the Iron Throne, so prepare to protect or move him quickly. Attend Gortash’s coronation, finish Mizora’s camp conversation, and reach the prison before defeating Gortash. Spoilers for Act 3 and the Iron Throne rescue.
How to break Wyll’s pact and rescue his father
Follow these events in order. The normal rescue route depends on attending the coronation and resolving Mizora’s offer before entering the prison.
- Attend Gortash’s coronation at Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. The documented normal rescue route requires attending the ceremony. Larian also noted that quest text could be inaccurate if the ceremony was skipped: Patch 1 notes.
- Speak with Mizora at camp before going to the Iron Throne. Complete her conversation about Ravengard and the pact. The rescue walkthrough recommends resolving this dialogue before visiting the prison: Rescue the Grand Duke.
- Choose to break Wyll’s pact. He does not have to accept Mizora’s renewed terms for the party to save his father.
- Go to the Iron Throne before defeating Gortash. In the documented route, defeating Gortash first destroys the prison and Ravengard dies. The wiki notes that Mizora may revive him if Wyll made the pact.
- Free Ravengard from the eastern cell block. He is in the middle cell east of the ladder to the submersible. Once freed, he follows the party back to it.
How to handle Mizora’s attack during the escape
When Ravengard leaves his cell after Wyll has broken the pact, Mizora restrains him briefly and summons explosive spiderlings beside him. This makes extraction more dangerous, but does not make the rescue impossible; the walkthrough describes saving him on this route.
Before opening the cell, make sure the party can heal Ravengard or move him away from the spiderlings quickly. Healing, fire resistance, and mobility spells are options described in the encounter guidance; their effectiveness depends on your party and difficulty. Do not leave him exposed while the party focuses elsewhere.

What happens if Ravengard survives
Ravengard stays at camp after rescue. If Wyll is recruited, father and son can reconcile, and the Duke points the party toward Ansur. Larian’s Patch 7 notes confirm a fix to Wyll’s follow-up conversation when the pact is broken and Ravengard is saved: Patch 7 notes.
The game also tracks the opposite outcome. Larian’s Patch 6 notes say: “Wyll will react accordingly if you fail to save Ravengard from the Iron Throne when the pact with Mizora is broken.” Patch 6 notes.
