In the Emerald Grove’s Underground Passage, deactivate the three hostile statues by interacting with the matching Bear, Eagle, and Wolf runes. Turn-Based Mode and Dashes make it easier to reach them safely; the Wolf rune is easy to miss because it sits on a rocky outcrop across a jump from the main path.
Find the right guardian statue encounter
This guide covers the statue trap in the Underground Passage, an Act One tunnel connecting parts of the Emerald Grove with the Forest. There are five animal statues in the passage—two bears, two eagles, and one wolf—but only three are hostile: one Bear, one Eagle, and one Wolf.
If you are at Rosymorn Monastery, you are dealing with a different encounter: a Guardian of Faith creature protecting a ceremonial battleaxe. That is not the Underground Passage statue trap.
Deactivate the Bear, Eagle, and Wolf statues
- Find the matching runes. The Bear rune is at X:-432, Y:-173; the Eagle rune is at X:-434, Y:-203; and the Wolf rune is at X:-456, Y:-183.
- Jump to the Wolf rune. It is on the side of a rocky outcrop above the water, away from the main path. Jump over from the path to reach it.
- Interact with each rune. Activate the rune that matches the nearby hostile statue: Bear, Eagle, or Wolf. The rune controls cannot be shot like levers, but Mage Hand can interact with them.
Reach the runes without taking trap damage
Use Turn-Based Mode before crossing the exposed area. Move toward a rune with Dashes or comparable class actions, then interact with it. Repeat for the other statues. The trap’s documented attack deals 2d6 fire damage and applies Burning for three turns if a character fails a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw. A DC 5 Perception check is required to detect each hostile statue.

Alternative: destroy the statues from a distance
If you would rather not reach the runes, the statues can also be destroyed from a distance. No particular weapon or damage type is established as necessary. The rune method is the direct deactivation option; the distance approach avoids crossing up to the controls but destroys the statues.
