Where to find the puzzle
The brain-mapping console is in the southeast part of the Necrotic Laboratory, inside the Mind Flayer Colony in Act Two. Activating the console projects the neural map. The puzzle and its location are documented in the BG3 Wiki’s Necrotic Laboratory reference.
How to connect the faculties
- Activate the console to display the neural map.
- Find the four labeled faculty endpoints on each side: Emotion, Speech, Memory, and Reason.
- Trace a route from each faculty to the identical label on the opposite side, selecting the intervening nodes.
- Keep the four routes separate. A node used by one faculty cannot also be used by another; the Steam Community guide by Raven Venefica also notes that paths must not share nodes: guide to the brain puzzle.
The references confirm the matching rule and show the solution visually, but do not establish a reliable universal node-by-node numbering scheme. Follow the visible network carefully rather than relying on a sequence of numbered clicks. If a route is wrong, reset the puzzle and try again.
Controls for mouse, keyboard, and controller
With mouse and keyboard, select the nodes along each route. On controller, press L3 to enter interaction or cursor mode, then select the nodes. The controller instruction is noted in the BG3 Wiki’s Brain Mapping Puzzle reference; button behavior can depend on your platform and control configuration.

What solving the puzzle unlocks
Completing the four connections opens the Flesh-Wrought Door. The door cannot be opened with lockpicking or the Knock spell, according to the location reference. Behind it is a Desecrated Relief with descriptive phrases about the Absolute’s Grand Design.
Nearby, the Waking Mind brain jar can be used at the Mind-Archive Interface to gain the Githzerai Mind Barrier, and the Blade of Oppressed Souls is also in the area. A character with the Sage background can receive the Brain Blast! inspiration for solving the puzzle.
