The console version supports a curated selection of mods—not every PC mod—and does not include Larian’s mod-creation Toolkit.
What Patch 7 added
New evil endings
Larian described Patch 7’s “Evil Endings” as brand-new cinematic endings for truly villainous playthroughs. They are part of the game update, not a separate purchase. Larian’s Patch 7 announcement first covered the PC release and was later edited to confirm the rollout to console and Mac.
An official Mod Manager
Patch 7 also introduced an in-game Mod Manager for browsing, installing, and using community-created mods through Larian’s official mod-support pipeline. On console, players can use supported, curated mods, but the official Toolkit used to create mods is not available.
How console mod support differs from PC

That means a mod appearing on PC does not guarantee that it can be installed on console. Console players can browse the in-game list for supported options; creators who want to make mods need a PC to use the official Toolkit.

What Patch 8 changed—and what “final major patch” means
Patch 7 is the update associated with the evil-ending cinematics and the Mod Manager. Patch 8 was a later, separate release. In its April 15, 2025 announcement, Larian called Patch 8 “the final major game patch” and highlighted cross-play, Photo Mode, and 12 subclasses. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement says cross-play is available across PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5.
“Final major patch” did not mean that no more fixes followed: Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 patch and hotfix index lists Patch 8 as well as subsequent hotfixes.

Modded cross-play requires matching versions
For a cross-play lobby using mods, everyone joining must have the same mod version installed, according to Larian’s Patch 8 announcement. If players’ mod setups do not match, they will need to align their installed mods before joining that modded session.
