Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 launched on April 15, 2025, adding 12 subclasses, cross-play, cross-platform progression and Photo Mode. It also brought split-screen to Xbox Series S, Steam Trading Cards, an update to the modding Toolkit and a range of fixes. Larian called it the game’s final major patch and its last update to introduce new content—not the end of all maintenance.
What Patch 8 adds
Larian’s April 15, 2025 Patch 8 announcement groups the update’s biggest changes into three player-facing features: new subclasses, cross-play and Photo Mode. The update also adds Xbox Series S split-screen, Steam Trading Cards and changes to the modding Toolkit, alongside bug fixes.
All 12 new subclasses and when they unlock
Patch 8 adds one subclass for each playable class. The level shown is when that class can choose the subclass, according to Larian’s roster:

The subclass names signal varied play styles, but the announcement also highlights new abilities, animations, visual effects, summons and cantrips across the additions. The Oath of the Crown Paladin also has voiced dialogue for the Oathbreaker Knight. Consult the in-game subclass descriptions for the specific abilities and choices available to your character.

How cross-play works—and its mod limits
Cross-play lets players on PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation 5 join multiplayer together. Larian also says Patch 8 supports cross-platform progression. To create or join a cross-play lobby, use the Larian Network.
Mod compatibility is a separate consideration: everyone in a modded lobby needs to use the same mod versions. Third-party mods cannot be used on consoles, so a PC player’s modded setup may prevent a console player from joining that session.

Photo Mode: controls and scene limitations
Photo Mode lets players arrange the party and adjust the camera, lens and scene while adventuring, including during combat. On PC, press F9; on console, press both analog sticks. You can also open it from the Photo Mode HUD icon.
The available controls depend on the scene. During gameplay, the mode offers party positioning along with camera and scene adjustments. During dialogue and cinematics, you cannot move the party or change the camera angle, but you can apply post-processing settings and add frames and stickers. Larian says the mode includes more than 300 stickers.

What “final patch” means
Patch 8 is the last major update planned to introduce new content. Larian said it would not add new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters or companions after this patch, while leaving room for minor bug fixes. On April 30, 2025, Larian confirmed that small bug-fixing hotfixes would continue in its Hotfix #30 announcement. So “final patch” does not mean the game stopped receiving maintenance.
Other changes in the update
Patch 8 adds split-screen multiplayer to Xbox Series S, Steam Trading Cards and updates to the modding Toolkit. Larian’s announcement also lists many fixes, but an update’s fix list should not be read as a guarantee that every bug or issue has been resolved.
