The update added cross-play, Photo Mode and 12 subclasses—one for each playable class—along with other changes. Larian described it as the game’s final major patch for new content, while allowing for minor bug fixes.
What did Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 add?
The headline features are cross-play, Photo Mode and a new subclass for every playable class. Patch 8 also added split-screen on Xbox Series S, updated the Modding Toolkit, introduced Steam Trading Cards and included bug fixes. Larian said the patch would not add new narrative content or make significant changes to storylines, Origin characters or companions. Larian’s final-patch announcement describes it as the last patch to introduce new content, apart from minor bug fixing.

What are the 12 new subclasses?
Each of Baldur’s Gate 3’s 12 playable classes received a subclass. Larian says they add abilities and other class-specific features, including animations, visual effects, summons and cantrips. The Oath of the Crown Paladin also gets voiced dialogue for the Oathbreaker Knight.

Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have cross-play?
Yes. Patch 8 enables multiplayer cross-play and full cross-platform progression among PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation 5, through the Larian Network. To play with someone on another platform, link your platform account to a Larian account, turn on Allow Cross-Play in Gameplay options, then use the Larian Network to add friends or join or create a cross-play lobby. Existing saves also need cross-play enabled.
Cross-play with mods
Everyone in a modded lobby needs the same mod versions. The game’s Mod Verification window can prompt players to install missing mods or resolve mismatches. Larian says consoles have a 100-mod limit and cannot use third-party mods; consult Larian’s Patch 8 notes for the stated console restrictions.
How do you use Photo Mode?
On PC, press F9. On console, press both analog sticks at once. You can also open Photo Mode using the minimap’s HUD icon. The mode lets you pose and position the party and adjust the camera, lens and scene settings, including during combat. Larian says it includes more than 300 stickers, and creators can make and upload stickers through the BG3 Toolkit.
What Photo Mode can do in dialogue and cinematics
During dialogue and cinematic scenes, you cannot reposition the party or change the camera angle. You can still apply post-processing effects, color grading, frames and stickers.

What changed in the Modding Toolkit?
The Patch 8 toolkit update adds partial level-editing capabilities. Mod authors can add or override certain template types and create interactive objects. It does not let them add dialogue or change static world elements such as buildings, scenery or terrain. The toolkit’s expanded editing tools therefore do not amount to unrestricted level or story editing.
